everything is regurgitated, just depends on the conceptual framework someone uses and catches your attention but they are all saying the same things lol, but yes this is useful. i specifically love his lighting... the mood is great, it's not too dark and it's not too light hearted. It has depth and maturity, i love it

I have a huge amount of respect for implementing this approach in the "art job". After leaving my corporate job to become a full-time film/media composer and music supervisor, I can also relate to those principles, because the job is "THE JOB". "The illusion of freedom" of working in the art industry slaps you when even great projects become the same routine. Thanks for the great content, it`s so rare to find a good KZfaq video without wishy-washy stuff nowadays. Great directors don't gatekeep! 💯💯💯

Absolutely loved this video, I just finished reading Kiyosaki's book and have to admit it was a real eye opener for me, I really appreciated how you took it and applied it specifically to filmmaking. I started seeing a difference just in this past year when I started treating my filmmaking career like a business and stopped freelancing, and started an actual production company. Still in it's early stages, but it's videos like this, and people like yourself that inspire me to keep pursuing and not to quit. Really enjoy watching your stuff man, keep up the good content. This is the kind of information the filmmaking community really needs. :) Much love from California! 😁

I couldn't agree more with the approach and advice you're instilling in your content. I think creatives miss the largest earning opportunities due to a lack of understanding and skill in conducting business. Most of us start because we love the craft or the freedom, or both. But if we don't align ourselves with seeing projects through the eyes of our ideal clients and what they're needing to achieve or grow as a result of our expertise and delivery, we won't charge enough, we won't win as many large impactful projects, and therefore unintentionally "validate" the outdated idea that working as a creative professional is very difficult to earn a substantial living. When I started approaching both inbound projects and RFPs with a business-first mindset, I earned a lot more income and was trusted with larger projects by usually easier to work with clients. Obviously more relevant if you are looking to own a studio or agency, but I think freelancers still benefit heavily by educating themselves in business as much as they do improving in their creative crafts. Great content - keep up the amazing work.

Wtf dude! This video is a literal gold mine. I have been thinking about so many aspects of financial freedom in this industry recently. I just sold a bunch of my gear for liability reasons and I feel great about it - I encourage other DP’s to do the same. Look at what you have that isn’t being rented and get rid of it ASAP. I hope to grow my KZfaq channel this year as well. My schedule freelancing has been a bit of a nightmare but this is something that I’d love to move to the top of my priority list. Cheers!

Hey Nur, lately I have been loving your videos - so I would like to make a personal request. I am a commercial director working on ads - but making that jump from there to the "real" filmmaking stuff - makes me feel stuck - I want to know how it works if I want to land a producer & an actual film - like what I need to do, create or whom to pitch, meet etc. Maybe you can suggest me one of your videos - or maybe make one? Thanks bud.

This is all really great info, thanks Nur. But one thing that I’m still hung up on is the fact that many of these things depend on having an audience. We can’t all be youtubers and all sell assets. Some don’t have the interest, not to mention there are millions already doing it. So how can one have an audience to sell to if they’re not a youtuber or an inventor? I don’t expect you to have an answer to that, but it’s definitely something to ponder. I’m currently in the space of worrying about my income, so thank you for this - I’ll try to implement what I can
@nur-niaz
@nur-niaz 6 ай бұрын
You don’t have to be on KZfaq and/or selling assets. But I would argue that in the modern world everyone should strive for a strong online presence. It’s the only free marketing tool that can be leveraged for free and generate leads. Even if you’re freelancing. Or if you are a video production company. Just draw parallels with a popular fashion brand or a car manufacturer. The majority of them have their online presence going strong. That’s how they attract customers towards their products, services and story. And that’s how they stay relevant in a saturated environment. Even if you analyze big name commercial directors such as Anton Tammi, Ian Pons Jewell, Salomon Ligthelm they have their social media platforms very active and create this perception of being busy all the time and showing what they’re working on atm. That way their followers (production/agency people) know they’re alive and active. You can’t expect to walk the exact same path of those who came before. You can’t quite replicate the Kubrick or Coppola way today. So just use the modern tech to your advantage.

Great video! Thanks. I watched it till the end. Can you answer me: "What kind of person do you feel right now? Do you still feel your self as a freelancer? Or you feel like self-employed? Or like business owner?" I noticed that you say something important about the freelancers situation. They do tasks/projects for someone else, do it for money and don't have stability like employees have on their day job. So I am trying to figure out what that means to feel free and independent in your job? When you create your own projects - is it still freelance? Or the freelance it's only about making projects for someone else? Who you become when you start to build your personal projects, like you did? You feel like it's still freelance, but higher level? Or you feel now like you are an entrepreneur? Or you feel like business owner? Tell me please... It's interesting for me :)
@nur-niaz

I believe that my current role is a combination of being an artist and a business owner. In the past, I used to only take on directing jobs that came my way and worked for a daily rate. This is essentially trading time for money, which is freelancing. Now, I focus more on creating my own projects and turning them into events. I also share knowledge related to these projects for free, in order to increase awareness of my personal brand. In return, I have opportunities to collaborate with brands that are interested in reaching my audience and partnering with my brand, rather than just hiring my time and skills. I hope this answers your question and provides some insights into my perspective as a freelancer. Thank you for your interest!

I believe the best best way to get into directing is through editing. Especially editing on set. That way you get to see both the different directing styles and how they manage their sets. And you also get to know how their stories are paced and what it takes to make a good one. Honestly any job near a director is going to be massively helpful. But at the end of the day if directing is your end goal then you must make your own personal projects to discover your directing voice.@@micderinn
