Heather Schrock, 32, was arrested in Warsaw, Illinois when police say her son wandered around their neighborhood before being spotted by a concerned Good Samaritan. Law enforcement says they located Schrock at her job and took her into custody. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down what the police accuse her of, and why there haven’t been any charges filed yet, with former prosecutor turned defense attorney Sarena Townsend.

The only reason the story is interesting and compelling is because she is so photogenic which sadly says more about us than her selfies say about her. Vanity is a failing and a weakness, but I myself come from a long line of vain women. We were all decent and fit mothers who kept clean and orderly households. I don't know why her life management skills are so wanting or if something else entirely is at play here. We don't know much about the case and that video was one of endless speculation.

@@pippadawg7037She seems like having a dissociative disorder. Her social media facade is her excuse from reality. Nurses do have the most difficult job with low pay. Long hours of work that requires you am or pm shift. Having a special needs child is a lot of work too - all of those in concoction. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending her at all. Surely, she's still aware of what's right from wrong. And it's sad that she sees that that's her child's only worth. Unacceptable! But I hope therapy will make her change.

I feel for that kid. My mother did the same thing. Just left us to go to a bar. I ended up puting my brother in a car seat carrier and had my sister hold my hand to try to look for her. It wasnt even 5 minutes before a older lady saw us walking the street and called the police from a payphone. 48 hours later we were put into a foster home. Where they put mothballs in the cereal we ate. Sometimes you get screwed both ways and i hope that kid is placed with safe family members.

I’m a Nurse Practitioner and a mom of a nonverbal autistic son. How you could treat a person like this, let alone your own kid? You aren’t made for nursing. Nurses are supposed to be carers and many of us care for others better than we would for ourselves. Hope her kids, him especially, gets to a home where he loved and safe.

@@Victoria_USA_ They didn't say her house was filthy or that the child was "beyond dirty". They said he was found in an unsanitary state and house was somehow unfit for children. There are many reasons why the police/child welfare might deem the house unfit for children besides filth i.e the floor/walls might be crumbling or there could be too much on going construction. It could come down to a lack of egress in bedrooms. Not all hoarders are dirty so it could be hoarding. The cops could have found p0rn on the coffee table. We don't know. She might even be innocent. You hate to speculate but between jumping to conclusion and speculating, speculating is the lesser evil but both are bad.

I have a special needs daughter. When she went to jr high, a little boy was brought to class that his mom had been found unalive in a bar bathroom. He was then found home alone locked in a room. Apparently, she had been going out to get some coke and leaving him alone. He’s now 30, unable to speak or care for himself. The family is wealthy and this all came as a major shock to our community.

I have a special needs child. I work full time night shift in state care with abused children. My son is taken care of by my eldest son 29yrs and his fiancé 26yrs. If they cannot look after him I do NOT go to work, it is that simple! Also my house is clean with plenty of food and nourishment.

As a mother of four in the 80s ages 2,3,5,7. Believe me, if there is no one to help it’s awful. I was 25 years old. I tried to work but no help. Father was in the navy at sea. Sometimes 6 months away. Be careful to judge. Not every mother who takes selfies is guilty of neglect. I once asked my 28 year old son to watch his younger brother because he just had surgery and sleep walks. I should have stayed home. Let’s see how it plays out.

The problem is, our area has plenty of safe childcare, even for special needs kiddos. I live less than 10 miles from Warsaw. I also have a son with the same disability and have worked in healthcare in this area. There's no excuse. And what's the excuse for her home being unsuitable for children? Around here, they let kids stay in meth houses, so I'm curious how bad it was for them to deem that so quickly. She's got time for vacations and drinking with her friends, but not time to take care of her children and their home.

My dad forgot my brother at the shop, this was a time where in the UK it was normal to leave your kid in their pushchair when you go in the shop. He got home and realised he was a baby down 😂 my brother was fine nothing happened to him and was 7 years before I was born and I'm 24. Love my dad he's is a great person he was just a new father and wasn't used to being one at that time.

I knew of a nurse that worked in a retirement home and would give her patients the wrong thing and call a doctor they know in Syria to prescribe them something to mix together and give them on the spot so they undo it. Imagine she’s in the room of medications and he’s asking her what she has and she tells him , and he gives her instructions on what to take.

Mom is to busy showing herself out to the world. A nurse ❓ She needs her license permanently taken and children removed permanently from her. This is NOT even close to being ok. STOP giving children back to be harmed or die next time.
