I was watching a nurse channel called the high value nurse. He made an excellent point. Why is it that someone with a bachelors degree in a non nursing background can take an accelerated course to get their bsn in 12 months? Meanwhile, I've been an Lpn for 3 years and have to go through an 18 month program, plus pre requisites. It makes no sense at all.

Right!! Really good point. All of that perpetuates the lack of respect for our profession as LPNs. We do A LOT and somehow are still not being considered fairly when it comes to continuing our education. I read a comment on a forum the other day that said LPNs that apply to their school's RN program refrain from disclosing that they're LPNs so they could increase their chances of getting in. Apparently the program only takes in a few LPNs and would rather majority be pre nursing student. That's ridiculous and discriminatory!!

Reason why someone with a previous bachelor degree can go faster is because they have most of the gen ed or prerequisites done. These are your social sciences, math, English and advanced writing courses etc. Depending on the type of degree they have some courses such as a&p, microbiology, chemistry have to be taken.

@donna6760 That's correct. And that's where the difference lies with some LPN programs. Mine required that those co requisites and prerequisites be completed before starting the program. I know others just focus on Sciences.

This is new news to me. Thank you for informing us! I am a current LPN student, and I have to pay out of pocket for school as a second career. This opportunity will be a game changer for sure. Outsourcing is politics, and it is really sad to our nurses that have dedicated their lives to this field. Everyone is not fortunate to go back to school and we do not receive free education like other countries. I live in CA and they literally have schools setup for non-US citizens to have a lucrative career to become a US citizen.

You're so welcome! glad I'm not the only one who didn't know about this! A definite game changer for a lot of us for sure! Would you consider this if your state allowed it?
@MsMikkiG115 ай бұрын
@SignedEmma I will definitely consider this. I can not afford to pay out of pocket for a BSN in CA. This will change my paths in pursuing my future nursing career.

@MsMikkiG11 I'm with you on that! Paying out of pocket is no joke. I would also consider this as well. Honestly with the way my life is set up right now, this would be God sent!

If my state offered it I would run to the bedside to get that experience. I agree that if we're doing the work and getting that knowledge let us advance ourselves. I feel like it should've been that way because at the end of the day an LPN is a NURSE! I do think that you should have substantial bedside nursing experience. As we know bedside nursing and school nursing are two different things.

Yes!! Totally agree with you! I will gladly work bedside AND study for the exam at the same time! Really hope more states get into this. How long have you been an LPN?

I literally found this out today. There are 5 states that participate in this, Ga, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Florida. I actually researched and found the guidelines and requirements on Ga BON website. It seems legit!
@NurseMiaLPN2Ай бұрын
Update: I emailed the Ga BON and they said the info is misguided and you can't challenge the NCLEX without going through an approved RN program. I literally found the guidelines, policy and application that stated otherwise. (I SENT IT TO THEM LOL) Maybe it's a secret that they hoped No one would find out about lol
@SignedEmmaАй бұрын
Hey missy! This IS a ligit thing. I'm not sure why they are giving pushback when the information is clearly stated on their websites LOL! I wonder if anyone has ever challenged the NCLEX RN 🤔

@SignedEmma5 ай бұрын
Hi, you should try checking your state's board of nursing site to see if it's mentioned on there! I didn't dive deep into research for each of those states mentioned, just looked up GA. I'd like to challenge it too if the conditions are right!
@bubblesboss49375 ай бұрын
@@SignedEmma yes I definitely will

You can not "challenge" the RN Nclex. The closest thing you can do Is the California board for RN and it does not allow you to practice in any other state as an RN.

This is very interesting.. I would do this once I’m an Lpn, but just like you stated in the video-what about the education? Will employers take that as a bsn?
@SignedEmmaАй бұрын
Right! I personally think it's equivalent to an ASN prepared RN
