I’m a concierge front desk for assisted living facility & half of the time I have to lie or cover up for the DON since I know taking too many messages can be underwhelming for you guys… I always tell them if I could leave a message for them but they always say that she never responds to their emails or calls back. Do you think that’s justified? I really feel bad for lying to the sons or daughters but a part of me think it’s wrong but I also understand that being in a role like that with no Assistant DON can be overwhelming.
@SignedEmmaКүн бұрын
Oh my, there's one thing to be unavailable on some days but never following up with emails/calls is another. The job is very busy, especially without assistance. A 48-72hr period is acceptable but never following up will definitely lead to angry family members. Have you brought that up to her?
@mrbass093Күн бұрын
@@SignedEmma don’t get me wrong due to staff shortages, she doesn’t have an Assistant that’s why the best I could do is recommend having them come talk to her in person…. But idk I feel like I’m in the middle between doing good for somebody & doing wrong for the other person. I have not brought it up to her because she does not want to hear it from someone in a position like me, she runs the show. Her voicemail inbox is full… is that something that sounds common from people in a DON position like that???

@drinabooboo That is literally the type of routine I've considered if I was to place my child is the back and forth hassle/rush, AND, as you mentioned, the cost of daycare/subpar care is what's keeping me from doing it. I had no idea that you are 6 ft, that’s awesome! I am not sure if you are referencing me with the UM nurse question but I will gladly share my experience. I have been doing this type of work for about 20 years, however, for the last 8 I have been in the hospital which is completely different from working with insurance companies which was my background. It took me almost a year to get comfortable with my job, and about 6 more months until I became proficient. Now, I train people (when I feel like it lol). The key in my position really is time management. We didn’t have a productivity tool until 2 years ago. Girl, I honestly don’t let it stress me out. I do great work and more importantly I don’t work OT which is most important to them because they are cheap and my OT is expensive. Our metrics is based on 56 actions in 8 hours. Reviews, charting, calling payors etc. No pt contact. I personally work a chart 5 mins max with my inital review. I can just “feel” when something is taking too long. I have my workday down to a science, literally planned to the minute with some padding for the unexpected. Of course not everyone works like me and they don’t have to. I just believe in getting it done and logging off. Yes, wfh puts on weight, and can be lonely. I am happy you are planning on going back to nursing school. If you have any questions please let me know.😊
@SignedEmma2 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you so much for sharing a bit of your workflow! Honestly I enjoy getting bits of how people organize their day, especially none bedside nursing jobs. And you're right, it all comes down to time management. I try not to be hard on myself, especially now that I'm just getting a real feel of things since I'm close to my cap for patient load. I agree, I like to do my work and log off but at times I feel that I need to log on after hours to "catch up" on things I don't get to do. I'm sure once I get a decent routine down it'll be fine 🙂 Do you sometimes miss some of the patient interaction? or have you put in enough time in the last 20 years 🤣
@immamullen2 ай бұрын
@@SignedEmma you will be fine, and with a supportive manager you will be GREAT. I miss patient interaction regarding coaching/teaching and things like that, but pt care, no ma'am! That ship has sailed for me and I am not looking to catch a ride! It just seems horrible now. Maybe it is just the energy in the Country right now, Idk. I DO miss going into work sometime. I liked working IN the hospital. My perfect job would be an optional hybrid position.
@SignedEmma2 ай бұрын
@immamullen lol!! I totally agree about the patient care of things! It has gotten worse and I think hospital/facility politics play a big part in the experience. I love working from home, don't care for a hybrid option lol And I think I'd feel differently if my family wasn't in the house with me. I know it can get pretty lonesome working from home. Do you make any calls out during a typical workday?
@immamullen2 ай бұрын
@@SignedEmma I am a divorced empty nester so I get that in your case this is perfect. When my son was younger wfh would have worked for me as well. I do make calls. Mostly to the physicians or their teams and to the insurance companies. Our team meets virtually generally once a week, and that is painful for me lol. Overall, no job is perfect and mine isn't bad really. Pays well, and I feel respected so...there's that. Keep your options open. Get some more experience and if you like transition to case management or UM, WAYYYY less workload!
@immamullen2 ай бұрын
Also. To clarify what I do. I review medical records to make sure patients meet inpt or outpt criteria while they are in the hospital. Notify the insurance company and continue to review their medical records for as long as they are in house to get the hospital paid for their care. That is the short version, but it gets complicated because these can be multi million dollar cases. It is interesting, and something new everyday. We have different patients everyday to review, follow up on. We have assigned units(floors).

I’m so happy to come across your channel. You are absolutely correct. There are so many videos telling new grads to not start in certain places. This is so wrong to do. I believe a nurse should start wherever they are comfortable. One nurse insecurities are not everyone’s insecurities. You must be confident in yourself and continue to reach your potential goals. In regards to the references, it’s all politics. To me is a way to judge and use what another human feels that may not be exactly accurate. And like you said, many managers feel some way when you choose to leave. This has happened to me. Didn’t want to give references. So, it’s crazy out here in these streets.
