* Passionate about GP nursing and sexual health / womens health and supporting the trans / LGBTQ+ community
* I have previously worked as a healthcare assistant in sexual health and family planning, where I worked for almost 6 years before qualifying - I absolutely loved it!
* Before sexual health I worked in care home for the elderly, orthopaedic theatres and I have done some bank shifts on the wards at the QE Hospital Birmingham too. Overall around 11 years healthcare experience before qualifying as a nurse

This video gives me hope - currently a second year adult nursing student and feeling very deflated! Morale is so low within the NHS but it’s nice to be reminded of the vast roles we can do as nurses and still make a difference to people. Thank you.

Claire congratulations on ALL off that. WOW! What an update, highs and lows, but so many highs. Super pleased for you (and George). I'm so looking forward to buying, reading and promoting your new book (which I'm sure will be fabulous!) to those on my course. Thank you for all you do for the nursing community, you'll be a great lecturer for sure. You should be super proud of all you've achieved, all those you've inspired and helped, and all those you'll go on to help get into nursing and make a real difference! Huge congratulations on your book and your new role! Your book sounds incredible and I definitely could have benefited from this when I was a student nurse. I wish there was a book like this for Midwifery.

@ClaireCarmichael hi Claire, thankyou for replying. I have had time off from nursing due to mental health and then having foot surgery in Sept, which is taking a while to heal. I have 420hrs to do before revalidation in Dec and freaking out as don't think I can make all those hours because I'm a single mum and can't do fulltime. Plus I'm massively lacking in confidence. Any tips on confidence? Xxx

@@kaylesandbean oh no! Bless you! Sorry to hear this. Have you spoke to the NMC about it all? They may give you some extra time. I’m sure I’ve read something somewhere about this 🙈 can’t for the life of me remember where. You can only do your best though! You have to look after yourself before anything else. Nursing will always be here for you 💜 What about doing GP nursing? If you find a good practice, they will pay well and you can live on part time 😍 good for work / life balance. Also, Disability assessor role - working from home but you are still classed as nursing because you’re assessing patients still. Inbox me somewhere about this! I’ll give you some details :) this might help you actually! I have a plan! Haha I can try and do a vlog on confidence actually! That’s a good one to do. Because we all lack it sometimes. I’ll do it this week for you :) I hope everything gets better for you soon 🥺 xx

Claire, I love your videos! I'm a NQN Nurse, I have a Practice Nurse job interview next week. Im wondering if you have any tips? I did have an interview a couple of weeks ago for a PN post but was unsuccessful! I've spent 6 months in GP as a third year SN. What I feel like I am struggling with is, each practice is completely different in terms of policy and procedure so I think this is where I am getting stuck in interview when asked about this stuff. Theres no standardisation in GP, which is a nightmare for me at the minute! 😂

Happy New Year to you and George 🎉 I’m so happy to see your update - I have never commented on your videos (public speaking 😅) but just wanted to let you know that I had been following your channel since I had an idea of career change in 2021 and now 18 months later I’m a student nurse at the age of 40! You are really inspiring and a natural born educator 😊 I can’t wait for the book 😊 All the best in 2023 ❤️

@@laurenkewin2656 I loved the role itself and talking to patients etc. but I didn’t agree or like the way they worked behind the scenes! I can’t name the company, but they would make you change your assessment to fail patients! 😭 which wasn’t on! I raised it so many times and nothing got done about it. I couldn’t cope with that :( x

You’re amazing I have been following you on and off how do you find the time to inspire and share knowledge with so many whilst embarking on so many new challenges! Would you say this book would be useful for newly qualified nurses? I finished my Adult nursing course over a year later than expected due to health issues and personal reasons, I feel there are learning gaps that I need to revisit, I will start a preceptorship course in theatre nursing once I receive pin, do you have any tips for enhancing my practice,especially as I’d want to put my best foot forward and be the best supervisor for any possible students I get, thank you Claire congratulations on engagement and new role🎉

Morning! Aw thank you 🥰 congratulations for qualifying! Amazing 👏🏻🥳 I’m sure you’ll be great honestly! The fact you are even asking about it shows you’re going to be amazing :) To be honest, the book would be more beneficial to students rather than NQN because most of it talks around student nurses from start to finish. There’s a NQN chapter and some extra chapters around learning disabilities, LGBTQ+, BAME, mental health and staying motivated though :) x

Make sure you have a good supportive team! Number one top tip! If you have a good team, who are supportive the rest will fall into place :) Take your time, if you are stuck - ask for help. Remember you won't know it all, and you will still be learning x
