True being wanted by Los Blancos at that period knowing their reputation was a huge honour and confirmed your status of the elite. One of the other reasons I thought Beckham became a big deal being a select few that were English playing for Real Madrid in their prime

@@Slesaint17 Gerrard is a special kind of player and he is also a scouser. Even then, he almost joined Chelsea if not for LFC ultras threatening his peoples safety. You can't expect everybody in the world to think the same. I bet if Barcelona is calling now while you're playing for Aston Villa (which was LFC level at that time, just mid table) for 5 seasons, you'd pick Barca too. You hypocrite.

I’m a United fan but he knew his career was on the way out through injury, he got offered a chance to play at Real Madrid which arguably no player would’ve turned down, even today, and he played for United towards the end of his career because they were willing to go for him despite him being on his last legs… I’m not Owen’s biggest fan but the hate he gets is ridiculous…
