You either love it or you hate it. Or you wish you could love it, but you can't drink it. The point is, everyone has weighed in on milk and nearly everyone has weighed in on their plant imitations. The question no one ever actually seemed interested in answering, is what do these "Milks" actually contain? That is, at least today. Does milk reign supreme or is there a new botanical challenger on the horizon?
Also for the various plat milks that I was not able to cover, the majority of them have nutrient profiles similar to their base form, which I have covered most of in other lists. I just didn't want to make a judgement on those without complete understanding of them.
All nutrient data is pulled from the USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

FINE. Maybe breast milk will get it's own video. It definitely should be its own topic because I would assume everyone watching this video would be...past that point in life.
@colin6577

Hey I wanted to bring something up which would be pretty informative for your videos. Heavy metals are very common in some foods. For example, lead in sea weed, arsenic in rice, cadmium and lead in chocolates, and mercury in fish. None of these Heavy metals are too bad but inorganic arsenic and lead have very long half lives so even in small amounts it could be of concern, especially later in life. Also, it's pretty conclusive that soy's phytoestrogens don't lower testosterone. The only examples of this occurring is in mice studies and in a couple case reports where people were drinking like 3 quarts of soy milk a day. Lastly, I know that you try to remain fairly neutral but in your videos I don't believe you put enough emphasis on the possibility of saturated fat causing heart disease. Specifically Palmitic acid which has been shown to increase LDL in comparison to other fatty acids like MUFAs and PUFAs or stearic acid.

For those wondering how you "milk" almonds, peanuts, cashews, etc., you first soak the nuts in water overnight, then drain them, and blend them with fresh water (typically 5 cups of water per 2 cups of nuts) and any flavoring you'd like to add, like vanilla extract. After blending, you pour the mixture into your storage container through a nut milk bag or over some cheesecloth or even a clean T-shirt. And squeeze! This is to separate the milk form the nut pulp. Then you have your nut milk in the container, and the pulp can be used for... baking, I think? So yeah, that's how it's done. As for the other milks, I'm not sure what the process is. I imagine the process is similar for seeds and other legumes, but as for things like rice milk and banana milk? Beats me. Maybe it's just like a really thin 2-ingredient smoothie?

@baggaz167
@baggaz167 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this makes no sense. If you're going to bring up soy milks containing phytoestogens (plant estrogen), we should maybe be talking about cow's milk containing actual estrogen (animal estrogen). If soy milk affected testosterone, it would also reduce fertility, and since a high percentage of China have an intolerance to lactose and consume soy milks instead, imma go out on a limb and say it doesn't affect their fertility... also, we could talk about how phthalates in animal milks aren't found in plant-based milks, and they actually DO affect your fertility.

What on earth are you on about with this estrogen in milk lol, you should be more concerned about sneed oils in ur milk! Also, I've never had acne, basically no side effects from multiple glasses of milk and fat slabs of cheese every day, don't be so paranoid
@baggaz167
@baggaz167 Жыл бұрын
@@peamutbubber you got your testosterone levels checked against contemporary averages and you were fine... male testosterone has plummeted by like 1% a year for decades, so if you're average today, you're literally just telling me you're below average in the 1970s bro. Hate to be the one to break that to you... Literally watch Joe Rogan's podcast with Dr. Shanna Swan. She talks about about how plastics have halved human sperm counts in the past 40 years or so. We have sperm banks that can literally compare sperm donated in the 70s to that of men today and see that the average has halved. The reason is phthalates, and the most common way phthalates get into our bodies is through plastic contact with high fat food (phthalates are fat soluble, so if you eat a lot of low fat foods you'll be less exposed than someone who eats a lot of fatty food that has contact with plastic). It's not paranoia to understand science bro 😂 It's also far more influential in pregnancy. Pregnant women who are exposed to phthalates (which are found in lots of things, not just food), are more likely to have children whose perineums are smaller (the gooch, taint, whatever you wana call it), which is a result of lower testosterone. You can't just say, "well my testosterone is fine compared to the average, therefore this evidence means nothing", cos you're comparing your testosterone markers to any other man in 2023, not the 1970s when the average was much higher 😂 Honestly, if you can find your results for me, I'd be genuinely curious how they stack up against male testosterone from the 70s (assuming you're natty). Even if you're high by today's standards it would be interesting to see where you would fall if you lived in the 70s lol

@@ieo8446 you can get whatever micronutrients you want bozo, the point is that all these "scientific" diets just bog people down with unnecessary information that makes maintaining them over a lifetime almost impossible. These insane diets make staying healthy overly complicated, when in reality if you just monitor your calorie intake over the course of an extended period of time and stay at maintenance during, then combined with a decent cardio routine you're going to be vastly healthier than the majority of the population. And if you live a healthier lifestyle where these are things you pay attention to, you're going to be more likely to prefer healthy, micronutrient rich food over calorically dense junk food.

This one has some misses. If you're going to bring up concerns of hormonal changes with soy milk (concern coming from phytoestrogens, which is plant estrogen, not mammalian estrogen), then you should bring up animal milks having actual mammalian estrogen in your ratings. Animal milks are breast milks. It's also interesting how society deems human breast consumption past infancy as weird, when a good majority of folks drink breast milk of a different species. If human breast milk were included though, I think it'd be double S tier.
@FEGTTTSDH

Eat pizza, sugar, smoking, drink alcohol, soda everyday and drugs is much much more harmful than drink 1-2 cup of milk at day, and for me more weird... The hormone problem can be a issue if you drink a lot of milk, because 1-2 cups with a few hormones can be easily destroyed in the stomach.

Anyone who uses the term "plant estrogen" and "real estrogen" like you are being disingenuous liars, as phytoestrogen isn't called such because it plays the role of a sex hormone in plants but because it mimics the effects of estrogen in the the bodies of animals that consume it.

I have always had a hard time with why people find it weird for adults to drink breast milk compared to drinking cow milk (or other animal milks) because what’s weirder drinking milk from an animal of another species or one from your own species. Like breast milk is made for humans, for babies sure but so is cow milk and that’s not made for humans so to me if consuming breast milk is weird so is consuming animal milk in general.

@@ryznak4814I think it’s mostly cultural attitudes towards breasts. But even ignoring that, the mass production of breast milk would be… extremely degrading and exploitative. Now, so is prostitution (and many other types of work), but these are historically established and rooted in patriarchal domination/desire. Whereas breast milk satisfies no widespread desire (as exploitative, disgusting, and socially contradictory as prostitution is, it does satisfy a desire and has been historically sanctioned/quietly allowed throughout millennia under patriarchal societies.)

Agreed. He lists all the nutrients but lumps things into either lactose or no lactose, but there are ranges. He even stated that most people have some form of lactose, which is beyond me why the cow and animal milk industry is still a thing, given that fact. But to make a video basically glossing over the impacts and varying levels of lactose makes this seem like a pretty lazy made video.

I absolutely love your tier list videos, they are packed with important information not just about the foods but the individual vitamins too! Based on what you said for soy I am surprised it wasn't A tier or even top tier. Soy is also a complete protein. The phytoestrogen issue is very difficult to test for as well because there are no foods (including meats) that contain zero phytoestrogens, so you can't have a control group. This isn't a criticism of your list, more a criticism of the skepticism around soy in general. Besides that, any animal milk is going to have animal estrogen which is a lot more similar to human estrogen. I think a lot of the fear regarding soy milk is a combination of propaganda from dairy lobby groups (strong in North America), and general fear of the word "estrogen." I'd be interested to see a list of recommended nutrition additives from you, for example: nutritional yeast, psyllium husk, spirulina, etc. I'd like to add some more to my repertoire!

If you're going to bring up soy milks containing phytoestogens (plant estrogen), we should maybe be talking about cow's milk containing actual estrogen (animal estrogen, the same as you find in humans). This is because milking a cow uses plastic tubing to transport the liquid, and that plastic contains the chemical to begin with. Phthalates leech into high fat food and drink items, which is how it ends up in the milk, and eventually your body.

@@anesidora4551 Depends on alot of factors but assuming the cow isn't being given certain antibodies, isn't sick and isn't being given hormones. Then the cow by far especially in the glass bottle, because like you said alot of cardboard cartons have plastic in them and even the ones that use wax will still degrade unlike the glass. An almond milk while not as bad for you are soy milk lacks many key nutrients that are found in cow milk. As cow milk is a nutrient rich food that is full of exactly what the body needs to maintain and grow just like eggs are. Plants need very different nutrients which is why seeds would be a closer example of what a plant would find nutrient valuable.

Milk is fantastic, especially cultured to get the probiotic benefit. Whole Cows milk is quickly becoming my go-to protein supplement over things like bars as its super inexpensive and has comparable macros. For plant milks a big factor for me is the texture of the milk. Drinking whole milk regularly I look for plant milks with a thicker texture so my go-to for drinking is Oat Milk. However I believe that as a grain Oats have a similar protein to Gluten so people with a Gluten sensitivity may also run into issues with Oats. For cooking Coconut Milk is probably my favorite on the list.

It is easy to make soy milk at home and if you buy in the supermarket, they are made with 100% soy (unlike other nut milks). You can also buy the ones with no added sugar. I usually will buy soy milk fresh from the local market with no added sugar, I will instead put a tiny bit of honey or gula Melaka (Malaysia's dark palm sugar) as sweetener. Gula melaka has a delicious caramel-taste, is low in GI, contains lots of nutrients & is safe for ppl with diabetes.
