In the fourth session of the forage legume series, Kalyn Waters, UF/IFAS Extension Holmes County, discusses the nutritional benefits of adding legumes into grazing systems in terms of animal performance. Legumes are highly nutritious, easily digestible, and provide a higher level of protein than forage grasses. Legumes can be incorporated into grass-based systems, but grown as hay or baleage for use as a winter supplement along with grass hay, or can be utilized for creep grazing of nursing calves prior to weaning.
