First pregnancy & I feel like it’s been so easy. Thank you so much to a plant based diet!!! No processed vegan crap!! Just straight up fruits veggies legumes & nuts!

My first non plant based pregnancy was extremely challenging. i actually struggled with my iron levels and gained twice as much weight, experienced significant swelling, hypertension and had borderline levels for GD, none of which i experienced during my second.

I have 3 children my last pregnant I was plant based and I had the best pregnancy. No swelling ,no big nose, actually lost weight (14 lbs) healthily but baby was of normal weight 7.2 lbs and delivery and recovery was quick and easy. My recovery after childbirth was very fast because of my diet.

Congrats! I also had a beautiful second, vegan pregnancy with a smaller baby, a natural birth (first was a C section), and a quick recovery. What do you mean by "no big nose"?

Perfect timing! I’ve had two non vegan and two vegan pregnancies and am starting my first whole food plant based pregnancy and I’m so excited to see the difference. I’m hoping for a baby smaller than 9 lbs this time 😅

Hello Dr. Greger (and everyone!), I have been vegan for about 5 years now. Being a cell biologist, it was very important for me to back up my new life choice with some hard evidence, so thank you for making all that information so easily available, and comprehensive. Now, I just found out I am pregnant and I am super excited. I wanted to ask you, can pregnant women supplement with Ashwaganda and Lion's Mane mushroom? They have both incredible benefits but it seems that the research is limited when it comes to pregnancy. Do you think there are any reasons why I should stop taking them? Thank you for your help!🙏❤️

Ashwaganda is good before pregnancy and after delivery for recovery. Seems it should not be taken during pregnancy.

Good morning, I’m an OB, who has a fantasy to write a book called plant-based pregnancy. Using this time to collect sources and studies. I know you probably won’t read this but if you ever had time to do a zoom call on this topic I would feel quite honored. Many blessings, Scott .

Looking for supplements to help with infant tooth enamel. I think it’s a deficiency during pregnancy has cause then to have early decay. Any suggestions? Currently pregnant.

I had a very easy vegan pregnancy with my second. He also came a bit earlier, was smaller by a pound than my first, and allowed me a natural unmedicated birth (my first vegetarian pregnancy ended in a C section.) Breastfeeding my second was a dream as well, and no post-partum depression. But all this could be due to experience, and being more mature the second time around. I had a plant-based pregnancy, but nowhere near a Whole Foods plant-based pregnancy. I still ate a lot of junk.

What is your take on the assertions of Niko Rittenau, one of Germany's most watched vegan KZfaqrs, who says a vegan diet cannot supply all nutrients and we might need some exernal supply of arachadonic acid for instance?

Um, please explain how a omega-6 fat does us any good as well as how one doctor can disprove the official statement from multiple nations nutrition and dietetics stance that a well-planned vegan diet is nutritionally adequate for all stages of life including pregnancy... ⏱️...

@@mattdonalds9996 He is a trained nutritionist and gave his girlfriend a super-adequate vegan diet plus all the supplements (incl. less-known stuff like choline) and she was in really bad shape after 2 years and when she reintroduced eggs, it all resolved in a matter of weeks. He thinks it is because she needed arachidonic acid.

@@mattdonalds9996 are you assuming that omega 6 fatty acids are some kind of poison to us? they are necessary for biological life, arachidonic acid or ARA is necessary for muscle growth and function, brain function and neurological growth, and its most known function as an immuno-inflammatory marker. only good plant source is seaweed. not to say that we should supplement it, our bodies do make it in certain amounts although I do not know how much or effectively it is produced, eating seaweed is good for you regardless and the point is to have higher omega 3 intake than omega 6.

Oh and factory farmed animals are good for pregnancy.....get real. Seriously, look at the science. If women had to depend on meat for pregnancy, the human race wouldn't have survived ......look at how many men impregnate a woman and run. Ditch the mom. Pregnant women have been plant based and been just fine.

@@lizparsons7301 Will the human race survive based on this information? "The study showed that the vegetables-based food intake decreased sperm quality. In particular, a reduction in sperm quality in male factor patients would be clinically significant and would require review. Furthermore, inadequate sperm hyperactivation in vegans suggested compromised membrane calcium selective channels." 2016 Food intake diet and sperm characteristics in a blue zone: a Loma Linda Study.
