I avoid these processed meats for daily consumption, but when I’m at a restaurant or at a family barbecue, they’re a welcome alternative. Better is preferable to really bad.

you can also outflex everything and just refuse them and enjoy meal with them preparing food ahead, eating before, fasting couple hour. and being ultra chill and enjoying a drink.. or snacking a side healthy thing.. tons of option : its mostly the attitude of "look im eating with you (drinking count, non achool) " we are chatting enjoying time.. whats the problem or diference? i just not hungry now, or ate before. you know how i like nutrition AND respect your choice" but it would be too simple

@@MassMultiplayer I often do these things, but I don’t think an occasional “cheat” is all that horrible. I will say, however, that I had a Beyond Burger at a barbecue the other day (only in months and months or even longer), and it was so greasy I really didn’t enjoy it. So, there’s that.

As compared to meat, it's a better alternative. But, every time you eat something it's a missed opportunity to eat something better. Meat analogs have their place, to be sure, but I'll stick to whole minimally processed foods. I like my homemade veggie burgers just fine. We all make our own choices of what's best for us.

No, fake meats are NOT a better alternative. Meat is superior. There are nutrients that are simply not found in plants.

Far too ultra processed for me. Lots of natural protein alternatives like beans,soy, lentils, whole grains. And these are a lot cheaper.

Processed crap - usually with protein isolates which means a heavy industrial process often involving hexane. Yum!

Interesting. I quit all meat, dairy, eggs, processed foods about 8 years ago. Quit cold turkey ( no pun ). Lost 30+ pounds, haven't been sick in years. A little exercise helps as well. I've learned to prepare all my meals from scratch and have amassed quite a library of recipes. I grow some of my own food and plan to expand on that. Recently discovered fermenting vegetables as a viable way to increase probiotic intake and get the most out of in-season foods. I've no cravings, no regrets. It's a touchy subject, and probably not for everybody, but I tried it and feel 100% better. I don't pay any attention to studies, because for every pro, there is a con and no telling who funded what study. I just go by what my body is telling me. I think perhaps that is all that really matters. Just a thought... keep it simple.

Sounds like it’s working well for you, but for a lot of people “go by what my body tells me” doesn’t equate to a healthy diet. Some unhealthy diets can even make you feel healthy in the short term. For example, an animal-based diet high in protein and saturated can be very satiating and make you gain muscle easier, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s healthy long term..

@@august4633 it doesn't make you gain muscles easier (absolutely need carbs) but I get your point, some people do keto/high protein to lose weight, which works shortly (not long term at all) but is very dangerous for their health. WFPB can work for more than 99% of people

Dairy has casomorphins and cheese concentrates them. I weened myself off of cheese by switching to Cheetos, and then eating less and less. That way I got the flavor, and just enough casomorphins to keep me from eating regular cheese.

I'm still not totally sold on whether Beyond Meat is healthy or not.....sure, its better than eating real meat, but again, not sold on whatever they put in it and how processed it is compared to just eating something that is directly made from a whole food.....I usually make bean burgers and it doesn't have all the strange additives you read on the ingredients label of these processes plant based meats........

I think he could've been clearer in the video, but this study shows that it's healthier than meat, but not necessarily healthy. We know from tons of other studies that eating whole plant foods and not ultra processed plant foods like tofu is very healthy. No harm in having cheat days every now and then, but stick to WFPB most of the time :)

@@Ermude10 Tofu is not ultra processed, it's just a bit processed. And these studies mostly say processed meat is dangerous, not necessarily processed plants (except for refined grains). But I agree that whole food is always better

So glad to hear you point this out - I am concerned about some of those strange additives on the ingredient label also and afraid to eat although it is tasty but still choosing to avoid - sticking with the old brands like Field Roast and Gardein which have been around for a long time and I know what the ingredients are......

I use meat alternatives to help flavor some of my meals so my family will eat it too. I used impossible sausage roll iwith beans and rice in my stuffed peppers . I use beyond brats with cabbage and potatoes. I use textured vegetable protein to make a bolognese for pasta.

I use my own texture protein with grated cauliflower, and other vegetables for a good vegan meatloaf, which tastes like beef. Inventing vegan recipes is challenging and fun.

Soybeans are genetically modified, and soybean oil is one of the most inflammatory oils for the body. It's got glyphosate.. in I mean you're literally eating round up poison.....

Here's a step-by-step guide: Ingredients: Dried soybeans Water Soaking: Place the dried soybeans in a large bowl and cover them with water. Allow the soybeans to soak for 8 to 12 hours or overnight. This helps soften the beans and make them easier to process. Removing the skins (optional): After soaking, drain the soybeans and rub them gently between your hands or place them in a clean kitchen towel. The skins should start to separate from the beans. Discard the skins and keep the peeled soybeans. Grinding: Transfer the soaked or peeled soybeans to a blender or food processor. Add enough water to cover the beans completely. Blend until you get a smooth, creamy mixture. Separation: Pour the blended mixture into a large bowl and let it sit undisturbed for a while. Beyond Meats are too salty and I became allergic after a couple of times trying it. The ingredient list is very long so I cannot pinpoint what I'm allergic to. It goes for all other plant based meat except for Field Roast which I use very sporadically.

There are a lot of vegan protein sources that are extremely healthy and not processed at all. These meat alternatives are highly processed foods, the vegan diet isn't supposed to rely on them. They are comfort food like a pack of Kraft Mac and Cheese or a frozen pizza. That's all.

Veganism just means animal free products--not just food--and has nothing to do with health. You are referring to a whole food plant-based diet, which should comprise minimally processed foods. That said, vegans should try to eat healthfully for their own sake, but it is not a requirement of the philosophy.

The typical Morningstar product has animal ingredients, apart from their stupidly named Incogmeato line. That is a company that used to make only plant-based products, if I recall correctly, then added dairy and eggs to some of them, and is now trying to return to their original recipes. Which I guess they lost, because they're struggling with much of their product line.

I think this is a huge problem that people who consume plant based substitutes on a regular basis overlook. If you look at the ingredients list on these products (plant based butter, faux meat, etc.) the first or second ingredient is usually some vegetable seed oil blend. These oils are highly processed and terrible for human health. I also find most substitutes to be highly processed. Meat and animal products are among the most studied and scrutinized foods on the planet. Interesting that people are so willing to consume alternatives like this - without any evidence that they are safe in the long term. There is a lot of money and corporate influence contributing to plant based eating and substitutes. I’m not anti-vegan but I think the health of people in this country would improve greatly if docs started to promote whole (one ingredient) foods (whether animal, plant based, or both). The message should be to stop eating processed food, refined carbs, and sugar.

@@geminicls446I think you dont understand what he means. In all the studies, refined seed oils are always superior compared to saturated fat from butter (for cooking) or from (whole) meat. Refined seed oils are better than animal fat, even protective (cardiovascular diseases) for meat/eggs/dairies eaters. But when you compare to whole plant food, like nuts, avocado, seeds, olives, the refined seed oils are not good. So only vegans can legitimately criticize seed oils. Read the studies, animal fat < refined seed oils < whole plant fat sources

This study was done at Stanford on an unrestricted research gift. This allows the researcher, not the company, to dictate the study protocol so it's unbiased as opposed to the usual industry funded studies. Based on Dr. G's description it seemed pretty fair.

However, an intervention order effect was identified. When given the choice, I look for plant based meat alternatives that have less oil than Beyond Meat products. Beyond Meat and Impossible Food products were designed to appeal to meat eaters, who are used to fatty meats like greasy hamburgers. LIghtLife is often a better choice. Whole foods are ideal, of course, but I do indulge in moderation as part of my fully plant based diet which is centered around whole foods.

Two days I found a meat alternative that has 26g of protein, 1100 mg of salt and like 0.4g of saturated fats for 100g and 170 calories. It is very useful for me to get adequate protein as I usually don't feel hungry but need the protein to recover and build muscle. I think I'm gonna keep using it from time to time and hope it doesn't cause blood pressure issues

@@imhassane You got me doing a little research. Nutrition labels in the US report SODIUM levels while in many European countries it’s SALT. Your salt label of 1100 mg will contain 550 mg of sodium. A lot no matter how you look at it. I found an article about sodium vs. salt labeling but even it didn’t well explain the reasoning. The main three electrolytes, sodium, potassium, and chloride are essential for life but in excess, as the NIH says, “salt-driven changes in metabolism may thus partly explain why high salt diets have been linked to diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems that can result from the condition known as metabolic syndrome.” Potassium balances out sodium and that is why I use potassium chloride as a salt substitute.

The amount of glyphosate in a plant based meat alternative depends on the ingredients used to make the meat alternative. Impossible burger products in some cases were found to have a much higher amount of glyphosate than Beyond Meat products for example. Beyond Meat products were found to have much lower amounts of glyphosate.

Inspired me to make bean burgers from some beans I cooked a couple days ago. Still working on my recipe. These were the best yet--but still a ways to go. Mmmm I think I'll have another.

After soaking and boiling your beans, drain then let them dry overnight on a tray, next day lightly fry in a non stick pan with a bit of sunflower oil and your favorite spices, it brings out the nutty flavor of beans, especially soybeans. Then proceed grinding the beans in food processor. Now ready to mix with other ingredients included in your recipe. It's a flavor enhancer.

As a way to transition plant based meats might be a good idea, but trading unprocessed meats for processed plant meats sounds like a bad idea in general. I'm trying to eliminate processed meat substitutes from my diet.

notes: how to eat better? implementation intentions: specific if then plans that are concrete and not vague. if this food comes up, then i will eat this much or i will say no. if this is on sale, i will buy or not buy. have specific goals and thoughtful values. objectives and values depend on each other. write down if then plan. write down what foods you will buy. grocery list are big. study: plant beef sub, plant pork sub, plant chicken sub. all in one study. plant based meat lowered cholesterol cuz lower sat fat. but beans would have kept sodum down, fiber up. plant meats caused more weight loss than real meats. with similar calories. why? plants increase resting metabolic rate?

@@chiyerano "Beyond Meat" is a brand. But wood pulp as a commodity that they use to make paper from, isn't. I can't imagine that eating wood pulp can be healthy.

@@chiyerano Oh, I see. Well, unfortunately, 95% of those I've seen locally have wood pulp. Many also contain caramel coloring, which is a known carcinogen. So processed vegan food doesn't always mean good.

We have great and inexpensive veg "meat" substitutes in England (compared to where I shopped in Florida). There are many Hindu people here. In my family, we use them maybe twice a week. Personally, I love most of them. I could live on them, but I don't 😂 I don't eat much sodium, so I'm pretty good.

@@CRM-114 the people with highest life expectancy live in Hongkong. Meat consumption is up to 58kgs per person each year. People with the lowest life expectancy live in India where a vegetarian heavy plant based diet is common.

I tried the Beyond burger when it first became available in restaurants. The flavor and texture was acceptable, not as good as a quality beef burger, but certainly as good as a fast food quality burger. A few bites were ok. Let’s give it a chance. Then the beyond burger made. Me. Sick. For hours!! Bloated, nauseous. A normal veggie burger made from quality ingredients (my fav is black bean and beet root) is delicious! Why not eat that? If I felt like I need to fake eating a meat burger, I’d just eat a meat burger. There’s something bad wrong with that processed fake burger crap.

Why did we make blenders, their great for liquid but real food , not so much , think about how scary that I'd in that blender , we don't fit , but they do , & it pulverize them , , maybe we shouldn't, we could do it by hand , I'm a prep cook !

Before I became a vegetarian I used to be like everyone else getting a couple colds a year and the flu every few years . I've been a vegetarian for 20 years I've never had a serious cold have never had the flu and I don't get any flu shots.. coincidence? That's what the Meatheads would have you believe..🤡

The plant based meat seems like it contains awful lot of seeds oil, it's basically an ultra processed food, like junk food. No surprise Nestle is the the bigger player on this field. So far I will rather stick with a human diet, like Paleo

I don't use. If I wanted meat, I'd eat it... I don't want ultraprocessed food in my life. The "veg industry" is a industry, paying studies and marketing and not necessarily offering good food, just taste food. In a transition "meat -to-veg", maybe it's ok for someone. But I didn't in my transition.

I don't know about this specific product but from what I've seen, vegan alternatives to non-vegan highly processed foods tend to have 10-20% fewer calories, so that might contribute to the minor weight loss.

This study was done at Stanford on an unrestricted research gift. This allows the researcher, not the company, to dictate the study protocol so it's unbiased as opposed to the usual industry funded studies.

@marakima/// never had a problem with vegan products. However I won't eat tempeh because of the way it's made. Yuk. When I buy vegan Beyond sausage, I boil them well, discard the juice then dry fry them in a pan. Very nice and gets rid of a lot of salt content. Eat them with a splash of apple cider vinegar, it will help with digestion if you have a problem. Use your imagination.

There are vegan bloggers who say vegans benefit from a small amount of exogenous arachidonic acid (supplement made by a fungus). What is your opinion?

Arachidonic acid is linked to higher risk of depression and suicides... Your body convert it from linoleic acid, and only the amount needed. Absolutely no benefit to take arachidonic acid.

I was a vegetarian for 20 years and then all of a sudden my body just started craving meat again. I have started eating meat after doing research from different sources and I am seeing from other doctors and scientists that there is nothing wrong with eating meat as long as it is grass-fed pasture raised and grass finished. I started eating meat again because I was eating beyond meat three times a day and it does make sense that to just eat the original thing. My blood pressure stayed high for years eating fake meat. From my research there is nothing wrong with eating whole food. From my understanding grains are the problem not meat and dairy. I have cut out all grains and bread and my A1C came back down to normal and my blood pressure is lower than it has been in the past 10 years. This is when I started eating meat and got rid of carbs and fake meat. So who is right and who is wrong? I think that a lot of these studies are done when people are doing other things as well as eating fake meat. How can prominent doctors and scientists be on totally different pages nowadays?

Because some of those doctors/scientists have books to sell. Also, nutrition science is difficult to test experimentally, as there are so many variables and the time periods are long.

I had plant-based hotdogs about ten years ago that tasted like plastic tubes…essentially inedible. Newer products are quite good, however their over-processed, high-sodium nature are a concern. I use Gardein products occasionally because they have a relatively short ingredient list and are relatively low in sodium. But really, I don’t eat much meat beyond fish, so if I want a hamburger once a month, I’m going to be inclined to go with a quality beef burger rather than something created in a lab and made in a factory.

4:07 Weird mind strick but, you're talking about gut-microbes, bad gut-flora. Might it be that in phre-historic times where we'd still roam between pigs, cows, chickens and other species that, by eating them once in a while. We'd built resistence to their potential diseases? Does it cause heart-disease and other malfunctions in the body long-term, yes. But so does accidentally eating the seed of an apple long term.

Eating meat doesn't cause heart disease. Saturated fat doesn't cause heart disease. The most recent study, Diet, Cardiovascular Disease, and Mortality in 80 Countries points to malnutrition as the leading cause of poor health outcomes with those consuming low amounts of saturated fats, and the least amount of red meat having the worst health outcomes.

Nutrition Made Simple talked to eminent nutrition researcher Christopher Gardner about his study regarding plant-based meat. Gardner did NOT suggest that TMAO is insignificant and measured it in his study. Dr. Carvalho said, "there's a whole debate around TMAO, whether it's just a marker or whether it actually causes disease..." There remains an association. he said. Dr. Gardner found that those who had previously eaten a primarily plant-based diet, when fed real beef, produced very little TMAO. He believes that a gut microbiome that is conditioned for plant food, won't produce TMAO when given beef. So that means vegans can eat beef and not produce TMAO. Should I add an "LMAO" here?

What about the known carcinogens in Beyond meats that have been banned in Europe and Canada but not the US? Would love to see accurate studies on that. Processed lab grown plant meats are toxic! Let's see where the health of people who eat Beyond meats 5 days a week is in 1-2 years! I'm a hardcore vegan and won't touch anything grown in a lab. You're much better off with legumes, lentils, beans, and organic tofu that's free of anti foaming agents.

Guinness world record oldest bodybuilder Jim Arrington age 90, eats every day, milk, cottage cheese, beef, chicken and fish, also has raw salads with each meal, consumes about 1 liter of olive oil per week and has moderate carb intake. He does not play games or experiment with different diets as he has been doing this same thing for well over half a century. The man speaking in this video has no long term track record in anything and is not in the Guinness World Record book.

But if they are a bodybuilder and want to make it a long term hobby or profession without using steroids or excessive risky unregulated supplements, it is not going to happen by eating just a raw salad and some whole grains.

Due to the fact, that vegan is not a (healthy) diet & that all processed food is unhealthy, I do not understand Videos like this. Vegan is an ethical Lifestyle to avoid animal suffer & death. It's just a bonus that it's the best way to eat against climate change & that it of course can be better for your health. If you consume processed food (which is sometimes the only food, depressed & disabled are able to feed themselves) you (should) know, that it has too much (bad) fat, too much salt, less vitamins etc. It doesn't matter if vegan or not. And supermarkets are full of processed food. Most of it for omnivors. Best is always to do everything from scratch. But there's not always time/ability.

I come to the conclusion that a variety of foods are the best for me. I go with Beyond and impossible along with real chicken and eggs and beans, nuts and vegetables. I alternate foods day by day. I tried going vegetarian with these plant based foods and it just doesn't work, not enough bioavailability of nutrients. I think a variety of foods are best for me. My parents lived to 90 years old and they ate everything. Of course good genes and a Mediterranean ancestry does help.

How did you measure the bioavailability of nutrients? This seems like an excuse to keep eating junk food (eggs and chicken). You might not have the luck that your parents had, even some people with bad genes can smoke until their 70s without issue. Also, do you know that eggs reduce iron absorption?
