Hey all.
I got my hands on a used NUX Cerberus this week having been searching for one locally for 6 weeks. I'm really glad I did. Its absolutely outstanding. Really great value for money. But even at that, its not just good in the context of being an affordable piece of gear it's just a standout multi effects with Amazing features and sounds.
This is a very long video where I go through all the really great sounds and functionality of this unit so I've listed some time stamps below:
Intro:
Sound Demo: 06:25
Boost / Overdrive / Distortion: 09:09
Modulation / Chorus: 15.30
Delay / Reverb: 20:51
Presets: 25:56
Conclusion: 34.57
I cannot recommend this unit highly enough. No matter where you are in terms of experience or genre I think this has a huge amount to offer.
If you enjoy the video and find it useful please leave a comment, like and subscribe

Agree with you about the gear snobbery. I found most of these snobs use expensive gear to compensate for a lack of something :D But I love it when I turn up to a gig with my Squier strat or tele with my Zoom G3 or Joyo pedals and put on an amazing show. Then what usually happens is people come to me after the gig and ask what gear I was using because they loved my tone and I show them my budget gear. The reaction I get afterwards is not something I'd get if my gear cost thousands of pounds. Nothing wrong with going against the grain. Music is about the music, not about the brand of gear.

If you use the same device, put in very minute variation and produce two sound clips. And then ask people which one is better. If you tell people A is a 1000 dollars device, and B costs only 100 dollars. Most of them will say A is slightly better. If you don't tell anything, the choice will be very random. It won't be much different if the two sound clips are from two device, one expensive and one cheap, as long as you tweak both to the best to your liking.

I once played a Pink Floyd tribute gig using nothing but a Cerberus, a NUX Masamune Comp/Booster, a cheap Big Muff, Mooer E-Lady, my Gretsch Streamliner 2622T, directly to FOH with a Joyo American Sound in the Cerberus' loop as my Preamp. Stereo IR (1960) to the desk from the Cerberus. Everyone said that I "sounded just like Gilmour, what boutique pedals/guitar amp do you use!?" :)

24:16 - Man! Stonkin tone..wish I had a song to use that on :) I have the MG-30 and wondered what the sound diff is. I see it's no amp but has a Drive. This is like my 1st board. Went straight into board via DI with a chorus, OD, Dist and EQ...I love the simplicity of this and that it can be turned into more. If I didn't already have the MG-30, I'd have this. But wait! It gets better!!! The Trident is coming. 2 DSP chips, AMPS and more. Basically a Cerberus with MG-30 capabilities. Was just looking and the Cerberus computer software looks good. Like Bias Effects or Amplitube. Easy to set up presets. Enjoyed the show Boss! Best Regards.. Best Wishes for 2023! Subscribed for the detail and good vibes!

Hey. Thx for the comment. So yeah the Cerberus has speaker simulation which means you can use it direct like you did your pedalboard. Though I think it’s more meant to be used with an amp and I think it sounds better with an amp. It’s very impressive though. A really pro feeling and sounding pice of gear. I researched the trident about a week ago. While it has the construction of the Cerberus it’s all digital and spirant have the analog drive section which is a bit disappointing. Still though. I’ll hopefully be able to try it out.

It is a joy to find people like you, first so humble and simple and second so passionate about music. Everything has become absolutely clear to me now, the only thing that escapes me is the "combined with ten onboard IR loader" thing, because I have always used analog gear, it could be something that you download on the Nux page?, or whatever it seemed to me understand from your other video with the American Sound that you borrowed from your other Line 6 pedal?. I was also watching your videos playing and recording in that converted farmhouse, it feels like your heart is totally devoted to what you do and that's just fantastic. Congratulations.

Wow! What a really lovely message. Thanks so much. So I would have to say that ultimately I’m a songwriter first and a guitarist second. I think that’s why I don’t really rate my guitar skills. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a tool to help me write and perform songs. Unless I’m laying covers to earn money but even then I’m not really trying to play blistering solos as much as trying to entertain people and make them feel joy through music. An IR is a digital capture of the sound of a cabinet. There is a part of the software for the Cerberus where you can load IR files to be able to play without an amp. So the IR replaces the speaker and the American sound replaces the amp. Can I ask that you check out my band? youtube.com/@kampalaband?si=87BAPrmI3P10L1xS

@@TheGuitarEffect Composing is the best, I praise your taste, sharing with people is also very important to position yourself. You don't have to ask me to see your band, I've already done it and I'm going to continue doing it, it would be great if you included texts with the lyrics of the songs in any of the videos. Thank you for your patience with my ignorance, now I am also completely clear about the IR and the reason for the use of the American Sound pedal. It was a little naïve of me to ask you if you also used them in the acoustic. I suppose that in addition to the modulation effects in that case the Cerberus own preamp is used and nothing else because we need a sound that is as clean as possible, TRUE? You have completely convinced me with this pedal, I don't see anything on the market that offers so much for less, although I would ask your opinion about the Rumble Seat pedal, I have only heard it through videos but it really sounds like the American and English sound of the "60" in its best version. Of course it is much more limited in terms of options.

I recently purchased a Marshall Origin 50 combo for my Dad as a birthday gift. Obviously a great clean pedal platform amp, and it sounded brilliant when I ran my Marshall Drivemaster into it for overdriven tones, and my Boss ME80 in the effects loop for the Reverb, Delay, etc. So now I’m thinking this Cerberus would be a great all in one solution to pair with the Origin 50, as the drive and distortion can be run into the front of the amp, while the effects can go in the loop! Plus the fact that the drive and distortion are analog, means that it will pair organically with the Origin’s valve preamp.
@TheGuitarEffect
@TheGuitarEffect 10 ай бұрын
Hey man. Thx for the comment. So yes this would be a great solution to pair with the Marshall. Also because the preamp of the Marshall is in the loop of the Cerberus if you add a Marshall 412 in the IR loader you could go direct to a desk or recording interface and jut use the amp for monitoring onstage. However if you wanted to spend a bit more money and get a boss MS3 you could have the same setup and also add in your drivemaster and another pedal and bring them in and out on the MS3. And you could also control the footswitch functions on the amp.

I've been looking for a new pedal board for my pedal steel, and I had actually decided to get a NUX MG30, but then I stumbled across the Cerberus. Your brilliant videos clinched it. I currently have a Line 6 Pod HD500X sitting on a table beside me, but it takes up acres of space, and frankly I need just a fraction of the effects. And I don't actually need the expression pedal either. On the steel I usually just use delay, reverb, chorus, phaser and a bit of distortion/drive (Currently Rat + Fulldrive before the pod, into a Tone Master Twin). So I ordered a Cerberus and I'm convinced it'll be a perfect pedal board for my needs. I'm especially looking forward to not having to deep dive into an LCD screen using multi function buttons - I think I'm becoming allergic to it. Thanks a lot for some great videos - By the way, bonus riff points awarded for Plush!

But for example I was looking for one of these and could get one for 5 weeks and there is nothing out that’s new that can do what it does. New gear is not always the best IMO. The overdrive is apparently a clone of the JHS Morning Glory and the distortion is the JHS Angry Charlie. The clue for this was actually in the software at one point, where the graphics for the pedals had the little icon/logo for both. Not sure if you ran across this theory in your subsequent videos!
@TheGuitarEffect

Hey. Thx for the comment Mark! You are indeed correct that’s exactly what they are based on and pretty unashamedly so! Thank you very much man for this demonstration, the sounds that you have gotten from it are spectacular but they undoubtedly have a lot to do with how you attack and play the guitar, which would be another way of saying the same thing as your claim at the beginning. In another of your videos I saw you combining the Cerberus in a pedal board with few elements with an American sound pedal, could you tell me what function you give it? It turns out that after this video, it is difficult for me to imagine (except of course that wonderful amp from what you get your clean here) that you may need more gear.
@TheGuitarEffect
@TheGuitarEffect 11 ай бұрын
Hey. Thx for the comment. Really glad you found the video helpful. So in all honestly I’m a completely average guitar player so I don’t think my playing is especially painting the Cerberus in an extra good light. It’s just a brilliant unit in its own right. The other video uses the American sound as a preamp in the effects loop of the Cerberus combined with ten onboard IR loader for going ampless. So that’s why I made that video. You can achieve very similar results to using an amp. In relation to your third point. Whether or not this is enough by it’s self depends entirely on what your requirements are. For example I play in 2 bands. A wedding band where I’m the guitar player mostly and occasionally sing and an original band where I’m the sole guitar player and singer. For the wedding band this is perfectly adequate as I only need a few presets and basic sounds. But for the originals band I need 4 presets per song, (so I need to be able to name the presets) I need MIDI to control an external loop pedal, I need rotary, octave, fuzz, whammy and more immersive reverbs than the ones on offer on the Cerberus so I couldn’t even think about using it for that

If you allow me one last question, do you think that the modulation part of the Cerberus would also serve to supply fx to a high level acoustic guitar?

Please this Cerberus has recommended IR? Built-in Ir sounds boring

Hey meng. Thx for the comment. I’m not an authority on IR’s but I’m using the line 6 allure pack deluxe 112 IR with it. But more importantly you’ll need a preamp pedal in the loop for sure.

They are a particular type of very stiff switch and are noisy alright. Doesn’t bother me though.
