Nwankwo Kanu, OON (born 1 August 1976), or simply Kanu, is a retired Nigerian footballer who played as a forward. He was a member of the Nigerian national team. Kanu is a native of Abia State, southeast Nigeria,[3] and a member of the Aro sub-group of the Igbo ethnic group.[4] Nwankwo means "Child born on Nkwo market day" in the Igbo language.[5]
Kanu played for Nigerian team Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Dutch side Ajax, Inter Milan of Italy, and English clubs Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth.[6]
Kanu won a UEFA Champions League medal, a UEFA Cup medal, three FA Cup Winners Medals and two African Player of the Year awards amongst others. He is one of few players to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal.[7] He made the third-most substitute appearances in Premier League history, appearing from the bench 118 times,[8] and is regarded as one of the best players in African football history.[9]
He is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,[10] and African brand ambassador for digital TV operator StarTimes.[11

No, Kanu was really never under-rated. He played for Ajax, Inter-Milan, and Arsenal.

He has never ever been underated my dear. Kanu was one of the best ajax player in the 1994 champions league final when they beat milan ac. Kanu won the under 17 world cup. Kanu won the olympics games in usa 1996. Kanu was one og the best african player of the premier league. Lol once again he was never underrated.

@@ADE-of-LAGOS Kanu was definitely courted by some of the bigger teams in Europe, but that still doesnt necessarily mean he was not underrated. What I mean by this is that Kanu was generally a perennial substitute coming on or off the bench. At Inter Milan he never played more that half a season, this due to his heart defect and other injury woes to be fair. But it is his time at Arsenal where I felt his performances were being underrated or not appreciated enough. So yes be it Management, Coaching staff and Media...all three Imo underrated his ability and talent. It's safe to say if he were Italian,Argentinian or even French I'm sure the outcome would be different.

Now, have u tried watching a young Kanu at arsenal who was playing as a striker, tell me , how does he penetrates defenders without speed and at times arsenal midfielders feeds him with long range of tru passes of which he got the speed and long legs to chase it quickly.

Innocent Oriri he doesn’t mean Kanu doesn’t have speed, what he means is you can’t speed him up, he decides the tempo of the games he plays in.

Tall and lanky with very awakward running styles yet was supremely technical and majestic on the ball for a man of his height...Kanu was a football enigma. Imagine how much more he would have accomplished if his heart condition didn't derail his career.

We had a crucial game against these group of talented n skillful players early 2000(2002) at our Stadium in monrovia. All we could hear from our various radio stations n the sporting department were not to hope for a single point from the Eagle. In conclusion, our country n African best, European n the world best( George Weah) resurrected our hope by saying I'm equivalent to 5 of them. I'm going to play my magic of Distractions on the page that will lead to our victory. At the end, the match ended 2- 1 in favor of the home team- The Lone Star.

He got some Ronaldhino in him with ball deviations/ transitions, some Zidane in ball control and eliminating dribbles, and some Maradona in smart and clinical passes. He was very skillful player.
