It's crazy how people in New York deal with living like this. You make your apartment look amazing and deal with having no space very well but it's crazy to me. I just couldn't do it

I believe it depends where in N.Y. I lived in Riverdale had a one bdrm w tons and huge closet space. Both living room and bdrm were big as well. Th kitchen was small and bathroom I'd say descent size as well.

My husband and I have been IKEA fans for decades. When we downsized to a 775 square foot apartment we gave several of our original IKEA pieces to our son and grandchildren. Then we went to IKEA and purchased new furniture, storage for our new phase of our lives. I really enjoyed watching your video. Reminded me of us, 25 years ago!

These types of incredibly functional coffee tables are the ones that I've always liked the most. They are really useful and at least yours has a super nice design. I'm lovin 'it. I think I should get one like this to use with my Florence sofa from Manhattan Home Design. It would make a big difference! Thanks for the tour. It's a wonderful place.

Gentrification. Happening in every city. It’s to bad in that people that have lived there forever are being forced out and the prices these people are paying, just unbelievable really. But the landlords see dollar signs and don’t care about the natives. But they are going to to do it to themselves, they are not going to be able to afford it either as prices continue to soar

First time I’ve seen the front door in a kitchen. Although I’m just about to watch a whole bunch of the NYC apartment tours so I’m sure it’s not the last. It’s amazing how many people have to live like this these days. I would not want the wall side of the bed! Nicely done up little pad though.

Cute apartment! A friend of mine lived in Hell's Kitchen on 46 St between 9th and 10th Ave back in the 1970's. Her apartment had a tiny bathroom with just a sink and toilet. THE BATHTUB ITSELF, WAS IN THE KITCHEN!!!! It had a huge hinged lid that covered it so if you didn't know it was a tub, you would just think it was counter space.

I shared one of those apartments on East 14th Street in the 60s. The tub cover was not hinged. We took the lid off and stood it STRAIGHT up, vertically, between the end of the tub and the stove. So, if there were people in the front room (which was straight ahead, all the rooms in one row) You could be in the bathtub and nobody could see you. You entered through the kitchen. The toilet was outside in the hall so you had to unlock your door and go out in the hall to use it. Each apartment had its own toilet though. Anybody whose lived in New York City knows this arrangement.
@thoughts3897
@thoughts3897 5 жыл бұрын
@@ntakovacj3644 Yep. I lived in a fifth floor walk-up years ago that was like that. My bathtub (and only sink!) was in the kitchen and the toilet was literally just a water closet off the living room. Interesting!

I find the American mentality of small living super interesting! I also live in NYC and have a 700 sq feet apartment that fits my husband, dog and I perfectly! We even have an extra room we've converted into a "dining" room"! -- I have a short term vacation rental right in the heart of midtown manhattan that I rent out separately, its 550 sq ft... and in my opinion a great deal by NYC standard... European guests simply love the place and totally think its BIG! Where as Americans think it's tiny, I think the concept of living with large square footage, to signify comfort is a luxury that even the wealthy in many in European countries are happy to live without. Big doesn't equal better, and what people miss is that while we "choose" to live this way (given salaries in NYC are higher then most places in the USA) -- because we choose to have the accessibility to everything 24/7. While at the same time being surrounded by the "WORLD" all in a little crowded Island... the experience of living in NYC even just for a year changes and helps you evolve to the core, and for that we live small... no one is home anyway lol!

I guess that is New York for you. good job. I agree extra counter space and or desk is helpful so I hope you can mount your fold up table on studs and make it work. I like what you did but I don't know how you survive with lack of storage. I think most people would need a lot more storage so the bed and the sofa should be storage oriented and somehow some kind of storage system ont he brick/tv wall is needed. Those end tables would be replaced by perhas small Ikea drawers (Helmer) with maybe a round glass or mirror on top. Shelves should have hiddenstorage in the unit ARtwork could be made to house jewelry on the back.

Nice apt!! I lived on the Upper East side in the early 70s when I was single and lived in a rent controlled old brownstone one bedroom with large eat in kitchen! I paid 90 dollars a month, with two roommates that was 30 dollars a month! That same apt today goes for $2500 a month!! Checked that out on the internet! I also lived in a brand new studio apt with AC and a galley kitchen, dressing room and big walk in closet complete with swimming pool and tennis courts in NJ near Princeton and only paid $162 a month...shows you the inflation since then and the level of GREED in the real estate and banking industries since then! I didn't hear how much you pay a month for your apt? Thanks for sharing an interesting tour!

I would have loved to here what you pay in rent for this place? My only two thoughts are to move your toaster oven to in the living area to have counter access it’s using, and just paint your AC unit black, add a metal shelf on top (decorate the top), and move the lamp to the other side of the couch, so you still have a full window unblocked by a window unit. Love your place, thanks for sharing!

Also, all the bills are included with 940 a month. All though most Luxury apartments here costs around 1500 which isn't bad at all compared to other cities. I just don't make that kind of money yet.
