They aren't saying it's responsible now. They are saying that the transit projects planned to remedy the delays can't be implemented now, because congestion pricing was going to pay for them.

Its the government - what do people expect? - The government will cost much more and do much worse. And then so many people don't care about true reform of the government that represents them. They're busy on their phones.

I'm sure that's part of it, but maintenance issues only increase over time on such an old system if infrastructure isn't modernized on a regular basis. Either way, costs will continue to rise. Same as it does when you own an old home or car. At some point, it just makes more sense to replace it. Nothing lasts forever. And transit technology continues to improve, too. You need to regularly invest in these systems, or things will only get worse and cost more in the end. Seems like NYC is very close to this scenario.

Congestion pricing is a good idea, actually. NYC has lowest car ownership in the country (and one of the lowest in the world). Plus, the west side highway is exempt from the toll, so if you need to get from, say, the Lincoln Tunnel to Brooklyn, you can still do that avoiding the toll, and it won't take much longer since Manhattan is so congested to begin with.

This is a tax on people who HAVE to drive, delivery vehicles, people who cannot take public transit for whatever reason. No one jumps in a car and says "lets go JOY RIDE around Manhattan" this isnt about congestion and they know that this about taxing the vehicles that are gonna be there no matter what. With all that said the mta spent 1.2 billion in overtime last year... maybe get ur own checknbook in order before they come for mine....

The plan already has exemptions for people with disabilities who have to drive, and for commercial drivers, that’s just the cost of doing business! You’re right that it’s a tax on people who HAVE to drive. That’s the fucking point. We use taxes to make money to pay for stuff to benefit the most people. The reality is, the transit projects that would be paid for with congestion pricing stand to benefit the city of New York way more than letting people drive through for free. And these benefits will ripple out to businesses, property value, etc. And as someone who lives in Manhattan, the level of congestion is really bad. This city was not originally designed for this level of traffic and that’s why it’s congested in the first place.

@@williamhodgson9657 they dont drive through for free. Theres tolls on every bridge and tunnel into the city. What are talking about. This is a salmon trap to catch people twice. The infrastructure for cheaper alternatives into the city for middle class people isnt there. If 2 people take the train into the city its $30+ , chinatown buses used to be cheap but now its atleast $20. Amtrak $100+. This is a squeeze on people and lets remember once a toll in place it never goes down or away... itll only go up. The MTA will get MORE comfortable with people not looking at their no bid contracts, behind schedule projects over budget projects, and insane overtime. This will make them comfortable being MORE wasteful. I'm not even saying this as car driver I have a little scooter I get around the city on but I know an immoral plan when I see it this may help the MTA but it will literally price a certain demographic out of being able to move freely across our city THAT WE ALREADY ARE TOLLED AND TAXED FOR. This is the beginnings of a capitalist NIGHTMARE where we cant even move around without being charged its immoral. Also go ahead tell me about the exemptions do the math for me... tell me how much they are being exempted.... you'll see its still an arm and a leg and its gonna get to the point where Manhattan is for the rich even more than it is now and businesses will go under and get bought up and consolidated and the cycle will continue of the boot on the back of the neck of the middle class and poor.
