Күн бұрынMMO Ashes Of Creation while still a work in progress, looks to have some of the most intriguing and awesome housing features we've recently seen in a MMO. However, there may be some aspects of this housing that players will need to be aware of and get out of their comfort zone for. AOC is still a work in progress and some footage used was from a long time ago though I felt it to be relevant visually.

I actually would prefer to be a nomad, going from one inn to another all across the continents. Also a tent that you can spawn outdoors and an option to build a bonfire.

OH I LOVE THAT! Make it so the sleeping in a tent gives you the lowest resting bonus and I am sold.

Nothing would make me happier if they added survival elements to the game like that. Like a need to eat and drink, maybe even have debuffs based on weather. Imagine having visible backpack and bedroll while you are traveling that you can toggle off and on in option . That would be sick.

I played Ultima Online back in 1999 and housing was a huge part of the game and should be an example for good and bad aspects of it.

*Mayors of Stage 4 Nodes should be able to build in-node, instanced, Freehold housing.* *These Freehold-Lite homes should only offer Crafting/Processing/Enchanting levels that are within the Node itself, these should cost a monthly Tax fees to maintain, and should be limited to small Freeholds only.* *The Master and Grand Master Processing should still be limited to outside-node plots.*

I could see that. They’d never do it though as it’ll take away from the prestige of freeholds (almost) if you can do the same in instances based locations. Though I do feel the appeal of true open world housing would still entice regardless for sure 🤔

So basically, if you have something as valuable as a freehold, it requires you are invested into the defense of that node. At first glance that seems very brutal that you would lose your freehold because the node fell, but I think behind the scenes this will lead to real communities throughout the node that have a vested interest in its existence, same thing with the apartments

Genuinely like housing in MMOs. As someone who did housing tours in ESO to someone who plays at music venues in FFXIV you can say I’m into it. In AOC I welcome the idea of defending my house. I can see people not loving that aspect tho

yea I wonder if having to defend your home excites people more or turns them off more. I think it adds value to the home. Personally this is one of the first times I plan on getting into a game’s housing 🤔

Some will love it and some will hate it, but it is what it is. This design is part of Ashes end-game, so hopefully the devs open access to their thoughts and plans helps to keep people who would rage away from Ashes. I know it won't keep em all away but at least they can say "you were warned!", haha. For myself, all I care is whether or not getting reasonable gear is not a grind since I mainly want to PvP.

Tbh I'm just going to get a simple small room/flat and decorate it with just some basic stuff, so it won't be too much of a loss. Otherwise, I might just travel the world and visit all the different taverns.

ESO does have free apartment housing. Just a short quest and it is yours.

My plan as a semi-casual is that I definitely need an apartment for citizenship and storage, and I am going to support my Guild Seniors in their quest for a Homestead. I think I would like to have a specialty in Taming, but I won't have the time or dedication for Husbandry and a Homestead. Autumn is coming.

I’m wondering if it’ll be best to secure a apartment in a popular node of a big guild, then as an animal husbandress; try to get in the family of a freehold owner 🤔

Since I haven't really MMOed in almost two decades, and pretty much play pen and paper games in person, I am not sure yet how much time I can really spend gaming online. I mean sleep is for the weak, but I am getting older. But I am going to support my Guild as strongly as I can.

@@Tilley53 I haven’t fully decided yet. I’m a recovering wow player so some of these decisions will be based one what the BIS profession to have will be. Same with my race choice. If there are racial bonuses I want to wait and make my decision more in line with meta, sadly 😂

They are working on it. Probably won’t be available during alpha testing but last they spoke on it, they said they’re actively working on it so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s ready by launch

Instanced housing is fine, IF and only IF the mayor of the guild run town decides to build instanced housing. If the mayor does not build the instanced housing, and only builds guild halls, you are out of luck.

I think there’s always in node housing though right? Limited but always. And they can choose to add more? Been a while since I checked

Yea seems like a high risk and low reward system unless you’re really invested in the affairs of your node and online all the time. I probably won’t be doing messing with housing.

"freeholds will occupy space in the world" Made me think in Ark Survival Evolved. In Ark your "house" also occupy space in the world because of it there is houses everywhere. There is so many houses that it block NPC respawn. The Ark map looks like a slum. Also the lag is insane. Instanced house is boring and open world house is impossible.

A cardboard box is literally more flexible, and it's easy to move. I think Pax Dei could benefit from having a secondary smaller, temporary plot, like a campsite, where you could stay in the wilderness for a longer time and get a bit of processing done.

Freeholds are a joke. Freeholds will be owned and maintained by large guilds. Individual players will not be able to afford the cost and upkeep of a Freehold. Large Guilds MUST have Freeholds to keep their power. The main purpose of Freeholds is not player housing. The purpose of Freeholds are to limit the amount of high-end goods in the game. Freeholds are a throttle gate, not player housing.

The processing portion of the game being locked to this form of housing has indeed worried a lot of the community. I weirdly like it, but dislike how it can eventually hinder me. However I think it’s another one of those approaches meant to invite scarcity and conflict
