Sweet as. It's all progress. Hell, we had the .303 Bren back in 85 still. We trained for a week with the M16A1, complete with elastic bands to stop the rattle of the handguards, then the trusty SLR. F88 and the C9 arrived in 88. Onwards, and Duty First.

Carson Zabel In practice the designated marksman weapons of infantry sections quite often differ markedly in base appearance from those firearms carried by regular soldiers and less 'kinetic' specialists. When elements of contemporaneous military forces began to be more and more involved in COIN operations, often against highly unconventional forces, in the wake of the second world war and during the cold war, as opposed to conventional conflicts, this discrepancy between weapon types was often exploited by said insurgents in order to reduce the effectiveness of their enemies. Take, for instance, the evident contrast between the infantry weapons utilised in the infantry sections of the Red Army during the latter half of the twentieth century. The primary infantryman's rifle was the AKM while the designated marksmen role was facilitated in most cases by the SVD, a weapon which, despite some vague similarities to the AKM, otherwise possessed an entirely different form. In the war in Afghanistan this fact, which was often somewhat exacerbated by the poor quality of training enjoyed by many Soviet conscripts of the era, was exploited by the local insurgents who, as first hand accounts tend to attest, were easily able to distinguish between the regular riflemen and their deadlier marksmen brethren and eliminate them. This was often conducted via analysis of visual, not aural, signatures. In this instance (and as acts in contrary to what is often the case with designated marksmen weapons) the .308 is not easily distinguishable from the MARS-l, quality that primarily lends itself to the similarities in the superficial fixings of the weapons (I.e. overall black colour scheme, the same basic morphology etc). It is also worth noting that, unlike the majority of DMRs in military servoce, and especially in contrast to the British MODs variant of the same rifle, the .308 is outfitted for CQB, in the sense that it is both capable of firing from an open bolt and is fitted with canted BUIS (in a manner roughly analogous to the Bren).

@Charlie Wootton without Air support (Fighters),all this fancy equipment is just a total waste of money and time. We can't always rely on the Australians or Americans to prop us up. Independent small modern and effective number of fighter planes,even attack helicopters would be vital. But NZ being a left leaning Country with a Socialist/Green Government this wont happen. Disaster relief and support for a more Intergrated force is all very well but will not work in the Tumultuous times that we face, With an agressive China,trying to take over more territory in the South China Seas. And the Pacific ,which will be next on their Agenda.

DETECTIVE BEAR For one, the BAE RBAV-sf body armour, currently employed by New Zealand army personnel, was procured out of an initial UOR for modular body armour after a number of incidents against soldiers from the CRIB deployments in Afghanistan illustrated that the existing plate armour then in service was deficient and not fit for purpose. Secondly, the TBAS utilised by Australian soldiers was developed indigenously as a result of Australian combat experience in the Afghanistan war and was produced exclusively for use by Australian military personnel.

So you want to hear pop,pop,pop GAP pop,pop pop in fast succession. Auto fire from an MG gives whats called a beaten zone that's why the MG goes on the side of an attack and higher ground if possible, gives a beaten zone across the front of the enemy.

So I'm stunning,you say that you increase your effectiveness range from 300 meters to 600 meters,How is that possible major? You go from an 20 5.56x45mm or 22 inch barrel of the AUG to an 16 inch 5.56x45mm for the LMT. I know that you have to try to convince the public of the waste of money in a new system for the low performance of NZ troops in Afghanistan,but this bullshit?? Less high pricy toys and more performance and individual training thats what you need.

@Deadbeatcow 4 жыл бұрын
Around 450m seems to be the effective range for a 5.56x45mm round, so I'm assuming they're talking about the adjustable ACOG sight and any potential rangefinding capabilities it might have. The higher you aim, the further it'll go (if at a massive decrease in accuracy)

@@Magiktcup This AR is inherently more accurate than almost any other service rifle around, and 90% of other AR15s. The barrel is free floated, meaning nothing is hanging on to it other than the bayonet lug (which isn't in use unless you're stabbing somebody rather than shooting, so big deal) and the gas block, which is unavoidable. Also, the entire upper receiver is one block of aluminum, with the barrel being held in by two screws very effectively, allowing barrel changes about as fast as on an AUG (except in an AR platform) and, additionally, meaning that you can't take your rifle, and swing it at rocks like a baseball bat and knock your handguard and top rails out of alignment with each other, because it's just one rail. This basically makes it impossible for one to knock their rifle so hard that their lasers on the front need to be zeroed again afterwards. This rifle is also truly ambidextrous, with all controls on both sides of the gun (safety selector, bolt hold open and release, magazine release, charging handle), and in fact the bolt catch is actually more convenient even for right handed shooters. Since it's an AR, even a lefty doesn't get to eat a mouthful of brass, and since everything is inherently ambidextrous, you don't need to change anything on the rifle to configure it for a lefty. Just hand it to him. Furthermore, the rifle has several reliability enhancements, such as a straight gas tube which won't wear in the normal bends during excessive automatic fire when it starts to melt, a changed gas port on the inside of the barrel which means that until the barrel is unshootable, gas port erosion won't actually increase the gas flow into the system over the barrel's entire life. In a normal M4 or M16, when the barrel finally becomes out of spec, typically the gas port has eroded enough that the cyclic rate of the weapon has increased to over 1,000 rounds per minute, after starting as low as 750. TL;DR This rifle is more accurate, durable in automatic fire, customizable, ambidextrous than any other service rifle on the planet. Also, the muzzle brake it comes with is is a quick attach base for a whole line of suppressors. This is straight up the exact rifle I want to replace the M4 and M16 in the US military.

@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 I agree with most of what you said but not all. " This AR is inherently more accurate than almost any other service rifle around" Agreed. Its probably number one as it stands right now. There are contenders sure. But yer probably the AR platform. I dont really like "free floating" barrel claims. Because most are not. Direct impingement, short stroke or long can never truly be free floating. Something like the G3 or FAMAS with their delayed blowback could make that claim however. "allowing barrel changes about as fast as on an AUG" No ive seen some videos on that rifle. Its nowhere near as fast as the AUG. Although lets be honest. The AUGs quick-change barrel is really cool but not that useful for your average user. " This rifle is more accurate, durable in automatic fire, customsable, ambidextrous than any other service rifle on the planet." "Most accurate"? agreed. Well the AR platform in general not necessary the MARS. "ambidextrous"? Well you can only get so ambidextrous. Theres plenty of rifles as good as the MARS in that department. "most customisable"? Again thats pretty up in the air. The AUG can go from an assault rifle to an LMG to a carbine and back again and moved its ejection port from right to left before the MARS has taken its two screws out. "durable"? No. Its direct impingement. Its the most inherently accurate gas system sure and stoners version of DI on the AR-15 is beautiful. But its not going to beat long stroke or short stroke in durability or reliability and stoner himself knew this which is why we have the AR-18. And the AUG basically has the AR-18 as its guts. That is probably my core issue with this. Switching from SS to DI. I highly doubt the MARS would defeat a HK-416 in a reliability or durability test. Im always open to changing my mind but if i had to bet money i would bet it all on the 416.

jb76489 Generally only up close, after multiple hits. You wouldn’t hunt pigs with it, so why hunt armed humans with it?

citation needed "You wouldn’t hunt pigs with it, so why hunt armed humans with it?" weird, its almost as if hunting and combat might just not be the same thing. Fucking weird that Last i checked, you don't really need suppressing fire against pigs, nor are you carrying the ammo for as long or as far as you would deployed Lastly, people do hunts pigs with 5.56

jb76489 Clearly you have no combat experience. Suppressive fire with 5.56mm is an oxymoron, it doesn’t work effectively. Hence the shift to 7.62mm lmg/gpmg again, like we used to have. 5.56mm also only gets its max velocity in 16” or longer barrels, therefore M4 type carbines are hobbled, and only marginally effective. FMJ 5.56 mm is notoriously useless, has been since the Falklands. Ask any veteran. The only reason it was ok in Vietnam was due to slow twist barrels. Modern fast twist means the projectile is over stabilised, zips straight thru, leaving .22 cal holes. No one sensible hunts dangerous pigs with 5.56mm, it’s generally illegal. Same with deer. 6mm on up is required. If they did use it they would likely use heavier and/or expanding bullets than mil 5.56mm too, and have good scopes and a stable firing position enabling head shots, unlike in combat. 5.56mm is crap re lethality. 7.62mm, altho unnecessarily large in a rifle, is back for belt fed small arms. Assault rifles need to be up calibred, hence 6.8Rem SPC and 6.5 Grendel, among others. M4 platform is as old as me, a tiquated. Very poor choice. Could at least have gone for a 16” barrel, and short stroke piston activation instead of direct impingement; also archaic and a poor combat operating system. Veteran
