Q+A with Jack Tame

Күн бұрын

As Justice Minister, Paul Goldsmith is overseeing many of the changes which the new Government says are designed to crack down on crime. Will it keep New Zealanders safer?
New Zealand's media landscape is undergoing significant change. Goldsmith, as Media and Communications Minister, talks through the Government's plans to compel tech giants to negotiate deals with media organisations.
Q+A also asks Treaty Negotiations Minister Goldsmith whether he expects a deal with Ngāpuhi in the near future.
Join Jack Tame and the Q+A team and find the answers to the questions that matter. Made with the support of NZ on Air.

My two sons were given a warning, first strike by the Police stating my sons were fighting in a public place. My sons were attacked. The Police had no proof my sons were fighting in a public place. We went into the Police station to lodge complaints of assault, the first Police had heard of the incidents. And the Police flipped the tables and placed blame on my sons who are Pacific/Maori. Discrimination much, unlawful.

Except under the rarest of circumstances it is illegal to incarcerate minors in NZ. Goldsmith states that the purpose of bootcamps is not to rehabilitate youth offenders, but to place them outside of society. By definition, that is incarceration. In which case bootcamps for youth offenders is a way of getting around the law that prevents the incarceration of minors. Moreover, unlike a bootcamp, which is basically a military training program that participants decide to join, and, thereby, implicitly accept the punishments for violating the rules. These bootcamps will be populated with youth who do not wish to be there. Youth who are there, in fact, because they defy authority. If the youth is going to defy authority, then how but by brutality will they be forced to comply? Scary then that Goldsmith is looking into means whereby guards at these prisons can abuse their charges without fear of latter charges of abuse. He and his shopkeeper mates are creating a Guantanamo for kids. And they are so utterly blinded by their own brand of moral righteousness that they cannot see what is obviously before them.

More waffle from this government to keep their supporters happy. The question is, how much is it going to cost the the tax payer to get 'tough on crime' considering there are approx 10,550 uniformed police officers, approximately 8000 patched gang members not including unpatched gang prospects, majority belonging to the 15 main gangs in the country that have unknown number of unregistered firearms, strong connections to international criminal gangs and drug cartels controlling approximately $3.7 billion of funds from criminal financial transactions and have a strong influence within the prison population.

Not certain exactly of what can and can't be done to deal with threatening occasions. I'd want to help as a customer or a staff member anyone who's victimised once accessing the situation; scared of course. I'd like fast achievements in the housing and road works taking 18 months- 3 months (working magic) and this summer they'd be lots of seasonal workers (productivity) 😭🤧. You might think that, but actually there's no rule which states that the current government has to be any better than the previous one. Based on the evidence so far, it doesn't really look to me like they are any better, and there is a strong possibility that they are worse in a range of areas. There are some individual things which they are doing that *might* be effective, but whether or not those particular things will work isn't something that is clear yet, and there is still the possibility that they won't. For the rest of it, it looks to me like it has not really been thought about very carefully and it's probably going to have long running negative consequences which will impact our society for decades to come.

Woke; adjective; alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination. People that blame woke for issues are either ignorant of the facts or discriminatory. Socialism is an economic and political philosophy encompassing diverse economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production for the benefit of society, as opposed to private ownership (capitalistism) which is for the benefit of the owners & shareholders. Capitalistism & Hate are making our world worse, Capitalistism by making increasingly worse products at higher prices for profit & hate by dividing society instead of understanding & compassion bringing it together.
