It is 2023, I am listening to this song right now on December 11th. It was my mother's favorite Christmas song. She passed in 2011. I miss her so much, and Christmas has not had its spirit since. I am in tears as I listen. The world is falling apart, and I pray for peace and healing for us all these days. God help us.

I remember the first time I heard this song when I was a kid. I was watching Home Alone. The scene where where Kevin was in church and the choir was singing this. Gave me chills. Love this song.

Same here. I loved this carol in Home Alone. Not a carol we would sing and thus my parents and I never knew what it was. It wasn't until around the turn of the millennium when I found out what it was thanks to a radio broadcast from King's College, Cambridge I listened to. My favorite Christmas carol by far!

Same. Such a moving carol. Makes me think of that moving scene from Home Alone when the old man is in the church speaking with Macaulay Culkin about the argument with his son and his regret they no longer speak. So touching and the music matches it beautfully.

I miss my husband so very much! He died in Jan. 2020 of Cancer.. Our wedding 48th anniversary was the 20th, now Christmas ... I can't feel the joy and cheer I used to feel but I know Christ is the Light of Life. I weep at Christmas, now. All I ask of Christ is he takes care of his beautiful, gentle soul and that my beloved is safe.

I am glad you found this carol, your comment makes me realize how lucky I am to have grown up with this and many other carols. Oh holy night is by far my favorite carol though. Isnt this haram in Islam? But i am glad you enjoy it. i lived in this city for a long time. The chapel is just so beautiful. if you read the history of it its fascinating too. The fact it is just 1 of a few (originally) Catholic cathedrals that was not burned to the ground during the reformation is incredible.

@@mikecondy6010 Muslims would not typially be allowed to listen to this type of music. It stirs emotions that can cause people to commit acts of sin or violence. Or it can stir feelings of peace. Muslims believe that only the koran should be allowed to do those things. I live in Egypt, and have traveled the middle east. Seldom will find muslims listneing to music in their homes, or even in their cars. There are some slightly more liberal Egyptian muslims that will listen to music in their cars (though they are few and far between). But you will never hear music being played in their homes.

Sorry for your loss. This was always my favorite too, ever since choir days I loved the way it built up to a crescendo although I wouldn't have had the words to express that. I remember my mom playing piano while dad sang bass, my big brother baritone and me alto all those years ago. I'm the only one left but they are in my memories.

This video reminds me of a time when I was a boy in the 60s. We attended a methodist church in Rensselaer N.Y. there was an old pipe organ in the front. One Christmas Eve the young people sang O Holy Night on the platform surrounding the organ itself. It was an amazing experience for a child " myself " I'm 66 now and I'll never forget that time on Christmas Eve so long ago. Now sad to say that church is all boarded up. Listening to these kids sing O Holy Night sturred my heart to lift my hands in praise to the Lord of all creation. MERRY CHRISTMAS 2022 God Bless Us Everyone

As someone who spent years doing youth theater, these boy sopranos have always floored me. It is *hard* to get a kid to understand stuff like dynamics, pitch and blending, and these kids are all absolute pros at it. I can't imagine how hard they work to get to this level of mastery. I feel honored to even get to listen to this. :')

They sing it at such a sweet tempo. Soloists are inclined to drag out. "their" best notes and make it sound like a dirge. This choir's tempo is so much more hopeful and uplifting. Just beautiful, beautiful.

@@Nofurtherquestions well, idk, all the church choirs I've been a part of were abysmal, certainly worse than the youth theater I did! 😆 I think you'd be hard-pressed to find kids better than the King's College Choir anywhere!

my grandma raised me she was a ww2 nurse. she died on christmas eve 1997 and when she died i walked outside cursing god and all of creation. through a light snow i heard our small town choir singing this across the village green in our little church with the windows lit up by candles.

When Listening to this carol your entire body, soul and spirit has this urge to praise God forever. this shows that human spirit is meant to worship God. The feeling is awesome!

It really is. When I heard this hymn as a child, I felt something stir inside me. I was born in Turkey, in a mostly Muslim but secular country. I became a Christian after a long time, and this hymn still makes me feel the same. That's what it's like to be the sheep of God. Thanks my God :)

True. However, this music would not exist if not for people trying to achieve a divine standard in the worship of God. Look at almost any modern art and compare it to Catholic/Christian art, music, architecture and so on. There is no comparison. And I say that as a former atheist.
