that looks amazing. I just watched about 10 videos on making a tortilla press and yours is by far the best. I can't wait to make one

Hey @WoodPlusMore thanks for the vid. I just built one of these and gave it for Christmas present to my friend's family. He is a great BBQ smoker of meats and I talked him into doing pork butts (for Carnitas tacos) then had them open tortilla press present while the pork was resting. I also bought some Masa Harina from the local Mexican market so we could make our own corn tortillas. Everything came out killer and worked awesome. Thanks a bunch for the video, again!! Things I did different. -Base wood: Alder -Top woods: Maple and Padauk -Handle and pivot block: Jatoba -Dowels: Cherry and Walnut -Finish: Shellac -Tortilla thickness (hinge set height): ~.700" I actually made 2 of them so I have one too! :) To the person asking about cost. Lumber can be expensive here in California and Oak and Walnut would be a little cheaper. I'd say a little over $100 when all was said and done in materials because you have to purchase minimum lengths of boards, etc. What to do differently, build notes? Don't use Padauk next to a white wood like Maple. It is a neat bright orange/red and tends to bleed and even chasing the sawdust in fine grooves can be challenging. Padauk with Walnut would likely look awesome with less headache. The Jatoba for handle and pivot are great case they look beautiful and are super dense/hard. For setting hinges for thickness, I used 3 pieces of cardstock that measured out .700" which is exactly what the 2 corn tortillas I measured with calipers from my fridge :)

That turned out amazing. I was watching another video where the flour tortillas turned out around 8 inches across easily. The press looked a lot like yours. You did it right. Have you ever seen one that's looks like yours for sale? The secret is in the handle design to get that great down pressure. Cheers

Your belt sander rig and your glue cup stand are pretty darned spiffy, too. Will the glue come out of the silicone brush?

Looks amazing! What are the stock thicknesses? To me it looks like the widths and thicknesses of the various pieces are 1-1/2" and 3/4" respectively, based on the fact you stated in the link to the step by step instructions that the bottom is 10" x 10" and the top has 13 pieces glued together, it stands to reason the top is made up of 13 3/4" pieces to make the top 10" across and the other various pieces seem to fit that same criteria by studying the pictures. If that is the case, the only other question I have is what is the total width of the handle when you glued it together before shaping the handle? Thanks so much for sharing this video!

in Mexico that tortilla machine is made hundreds of years ago and you can find it for sale anywhere and in many materials, wood aluminum, iron, plastic, etc ... they see it as a novelty but that here in Mexico is very old and anyone can make it

Can you share what size drill bits you used, size dowels you used, bracket size, for those of us who are not carpenters but would like to try this? And if you could explain more about the construction paper works and how you use it. Thanks!
