I'm Victor and I'm obsessed with tacos and Mexican food in general. I'm doing a four part Oakland taco tour where I highlight my favorites in different areas of the town, and this is part four where I share my favorite spots in Deep East Oakland.

For those that don't know, Northern Mexicans prefer flour tortillas. The Mexicans in Oakland are mostly Northerners. Y'all have some gems out there. My parents are Northern too and it's hard af to find a decent flour tortilla like the OG from Sonora and Sinaloa.

I took the tour of your 4 videos and I'll go with West Oakland as the best tacos. But there were multiple pop ups that you can't get all of the time. So I guess I'll go try them all.

I've been going to Mi Reynita for almost a year now, but returned over the weekend to find that they had move a few blocks down International. They no longer had the huge outdoor open-fire grill, and overall it seemed to be a shell of its former self. The entire operation was inside the truck, the crew was down to a few cooks as opposed to the solid dozen+, and the lines were skimpy. The security guard said the city shut down the outdoor grill. Do you or anyone else happen to have more info here? I'm really hoping its temporary, because it seems bad for business and for the flavor and experience. We went down to La Parrilla Loca because I knew they had a big open-fire grill, too - its in their name. But they too were preparing everything on the plancha inside the truck. Lines seemed very quiet for a Friday night. What's the deal? When will the char-grilled taco meats return? Or where else can I find them?

The city definitely has something to do with the change, gotta be something with food safety regulations unfortunately. Also been noticing this the past few months too, hoping it’s temporary as well because I miss smelling like charcoal after leaving these spots

I love the taco tour I moved to the East Bay when my sister got accepted to Berkeley and coming from So Cal the Bay has some of the best French Vietnamese restaurants I have ever been to. Can you do a feature on that oh and Portuguese to 😊

I like Colucci in the north pole, heard good stuff about Mela on grand, Enssaro on Grand has a lot of fans, but I think they can be hit and miss.

Great video, just a note that the last spot, Asador Poblano, is not TJ style - the Poblano in their name is referencing the state of Puebla, south of CDMX. It also says on the side of the truck, "con sabor a Puebla". Most TJ spots go with "Estilo Tijuana" or something similar.

Have you been to these trucks before? All of the families who are behind the 3 popular TJ spots highlighted are actually from Puebla, or have Puebla origins. They all make Tijuana style tacos. Check ‘em out first and get to know these spots before correcting. Thanks.

@@HiDidYouEatYet I've been Tacostao, Mama Cuca, and La Parilla - and I was only commenting on Asador Poblano, not the other 2, certainly interesting that Asador Poblano uses different marketing language vs what they're actually serving, will have to find out for myself why they went with that. I guess for me, the hallmark of TJ is grilling over charcoal and adobada 'al pastor' so if that's what they've got, so be it - the Poblanos do their own al pastor style too that's different from CDMX and TJ styles.

Idk where you got that from when this video got published while she was already shut down. It got shut down after her spot went viral on some IG Reel that got hella views. Also, she's back now and has returned with a truck coming soon.
