Nice job on the video. It is nice to see that small shops are still thriving and making great food SF is known for. I went to Lincoln High back in the day and many of these shops reminds me of the neighborhoods of grounded people who care about what they do for their community.

First moved to SF in '95 and was pretty much broke my first 3 months. My go to meal each day was the Five Spice Chicken with rice/cabbage at Cheung Hueng. That meal was my lifeline 🙏👌💯

I grew up in the sunset and they highlighted some of the gems this community has to offer. Welldone on a informative video.

Pandesal, butter, and over easy egg. Kind of addicting and simple. I’m not a baker, but a couple seconds in a preheat oven, the pandesal’s a bit fluffy and firm. Slide some butter in between and add a cooked egg. I’d eat it even if it goes cold; left in the microwave.

Nice job! showing love to a humble, working class neighborhood like the Sunset and featuring Brandon. There are indeed pockets of regional asian and chinese food that were impacted by the pandemic. And the restaurant folks keep hustling and more importantly provide a huge service to the community 🎉

I was born and raised in the Sunset right by the 22nd Irving Market in 76’ and was told by my mom on how my dad questioned the move as too ambitious for my mom to want to move out of our Broadway st apartment in C-town for his reasons that ..”there aren’t any Chinese people there!!”. Well, things change when you act on it.

Gao Viet is pricey. So just be sure you bring a big wallet if you have a big appetite. 😂 EDIT: You missed a spot. Mr. Bread on Taravel has IMO the second best egg tart in SF vs. Golden Gate. Their Portuguese egg tarts are as wait in line worthy as the pineapple buns at pineapple king.

Lmao yeah I didn’t say that but alright. My bad I shoulda made a 2 hour video and given every restaurant in the neighborhood a full highlight
@HiDidYouEatYetКүн бұрын
“Doesn’t need to highlight” when I mention San Tung is a figure of speech lmao it’s a way of saying how popular it is already man jfc. San Tung has lines out the ass daily and literally every food content creator that visits the Bay Area already covers San Tung

The “og local restaurants” are retiring or have already closed. It’s evident by the growing change of businesses since the pandemic That generation of restaurant owners never wanted their kids to continue the business. They did it out of necessity, not by choice. The family that owns Gao are from SF and a lot of them grew up in the avenues. The point of highlighting gao is to showcase the next generation coming back to the neighborhoods they grew up in. Idk about you but I would much rather see a local start a new restaurant than to support a big corp like the KFC that used to be there before gao. I for one embrace change and will continue supporting local businesses that brings in people to this gem of a neighborhood and I hope you do too. There’s plenty of room for both types of restaurants to thrive. Gao bringing in droves of people to walk around the neighborhood is 100x better than KFC or leaving that space vacant (which it was for years).
