Oasis are back in Chicago. Last time they were here in 1998, it became one of the most well-celebrated shows of the entire Be Here Now tour, with Noel’s acoustic set in particular being a particularly biblical moment for Oasis fans. That gig was played in the Rosemont Horizon, which has a max concert capacity of 22,000. Oasis did play there again in 1999, as part of the Xmas festival circuit. However, here on their 2000 visit they’re playing in the Chicago Theatre which holds just 3,600 almost 90% less. I know i’ve touched on this already, but I do wish the tour management had a bit more confidence and realise it’s actually okay if they don’t sell out bigger venues (there’s plenty concert venues in and around the Chicago area that are only a few thousand bigger). Despite this setback, the concert goes pretty smoothly. Liam does seem to slightly blow his voice on the second chorus of Supersonic, and he does struggle a little bit from there on, but in usual April 2000 fashion he’s overall in good shape. Noel and the rest of the band by this point in the tour have pretty much ditched the experimentation that was present on many of the Japanese shows unfortunately, but despite this the performances of each song are rock tight (just goes to show how well in the last 5 months this new line-up had rehearsed). I somehow found two different sources of this gig one is a little bit longer but misses out the opening P.A, while the other has that, but missing Shakermaker. I’ve merged both together for the most complete version of the show.

April is deffo an underrated period for Liam’s voice in 2000. Some of his growliest vocals, and he seemed to hold some notes for a lot longer too

I think Liam's voice in 2000 was still very close to the 90s standard, up to late May. It was from June that the problem was audible (Rock Im Park was really bad for me where Liam sounds out of tune a lot of times). But even then, it's still impressive how resilient he was during the Noel-less gigs. No walk-out, no cancel, even no Kermit. He still kept on while slowly losing his range.

April-May 2000 are the last times Liam could hold notes consistently at a higher key. Never got back there.

@@rkidmurray Kinda agree with that. Even on those early 2001 South America gigs (where Liam sounded kinda fresh), he already sound slightly strained on high notes like Cigs and Alc or RnR Star (which wasn't a thing yet in 2000).

Should also be added that if you listen to a gig from March 2000, you still hear a lot of the vocal affectations like the sheeiiines and imaginasheeeuns and even intentional voice breaks, by Wembley that is a thing of the past. His voice changed drastically in those four months, perhaps even more than the Be Here Now Tour in some cases.

Though I miss Bonehead's guitar sound for the 90s songs, I actually like the new dynamics between Gem and Noel. Noel still do the lead "guitar hero" here (though much more reserved than back in BHN), unlike the DBTT era, and that Whole Lotta Love jam, too. Also, RnR star sounds more "chunky" yet "swingy" with Gem's rhythm and Whitey's drumming.

I caught this tour in Indy, Murat Shrine Auditorium, but if you're playin' a theater Stateside, other than maybe The Beacon, or The Apollo, or Radio City Music Hall... The Chicago Theater & that iconic vertical-&-red-lettered CHICAGO marquee is a classy joint, & damned-classic venue! And considering the drive woulda been abt 8 & 1/2 hrs, vs abt 7.5 hrs to Indy... Wish I woulda went to Chicago. Oh, well... ✌🏽🇺🇸🇬🇧🎶
