I mean, this is the key issue, isn't it? Even if Biden is currently fit to hold office (which I don't feel he is), there is no way he's going to make it through a second term. The Presidency ages its occupant like no other institution I know of. Each year in office is the equivalent of three or so years in real time. Candidates elect go in looking eager and energetic and come out tired with with grey hair. By my measure, if Biden were reelected and managed to stick out his second term he'd effectively be 101 years old at the end of it.

He only has to beat Trump. Nobody expects him to be there in 4 years. The problem is, swing voters aren't going to vote for Biden on that basis. Democrats will vote for Biden even if he's a corpse already, same as Trump and his base. It's that slim 2-4% of floating voters that this is all about. Biden will likely win the popular vote no matter what (if he stays in), but he can't win the Electoral College. It's already biased in favor of the Republican party.

American voters have an important question for Joe Biden, Jake Sullivan and Donald Trump, about their controversial positions on Ukraine. 'If the USA were invaded and voters found themselves under constant missile attack by a powerful enemy, with many cities destroyed and great loss of life'. 1. Would Sullivan refuse to launch missiles at the enemy launch sites in fear of escalation? and 2. Would Trump be willing to hand over Alaska and the state of California as a trade-off for peace????

If needs be, the 25th Amendment could be used to FORCE Biden out of the Whitehouse. But however this is achieved, it seems to me to be a matter of the greatest importance and urgency.

The 25th Amendment requires a vote of 2/3rds of both houses of Congress. That is effectively impossible.

@M1911jln That's much later in the process and only if the President appeals to Congress and tries to resume his powers. The initial part is that the VP (Kamala) and a majority of the cabinet's top 15 "prinicipal officers" declare him unable to do his duties and notify Congress. Then she becomes Acting President and the world tunes in to see how the drama unfolds.

Democrats will not so much go for Kamal Harris as Wolpe suggests. Kamala Harris has too much 'baggage' to win the independent voters who may just stay home. The independent voters are the ones who decide our elections and have for many decades. Harris is hated by her staff (a bad sign of her personality, character, and toughness failure). She is not presidential. She cannot make oratory well, or sentences well, is black and is female, all reasons, good or bad, that will diminish support by independents. Now is the time to look for a middle of the road candidate with no baggage, best choice being a Governor, especially if a democrat in a red state, whose popularity won independents and some opposition.

It is SO disheartening to see democrats support poor President Biden in spite of his obvious inability to mount a coherent campaign. Logically we should be calling for the 25th amendment to be invoked. But the Blue MAGA march on, as if nothing had gone awry, ignoring the polls and common sense. Why is it ok for Kamala to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, but not a candidate? Please Joe, for the good of the country, take a well deserved retirement!

I love how the Democrats find democracy a problem. They cheerfully elected,in a democratic process,a man who was clearly deteriorating,mentally. Now that it’s become apparent that most Americans realise he’s not up to the task the Democrats have decided to abandon their democratically elected candidate,and simply install someone else without going through the tedious process of consulting party members.

I remember the anecdote by the great film director Ridley Scott who said while they were filming 'Blade Runner' that Klaus Ruger invited him to his trailer because he had an idea for a scene. Being an open-minded person, Ridley liked the idea and shot the scene now called 'Tears in the Rain', where the replicant saves Harrison Ford from certain death and then dies. It was undoubtedly Ford's best acting and Ruger was stunning and it showed how a film director can do magnificent work from a simple idea. What's my point? In my next comment---JUST KIDDING! Joe Biden is doing what every one of us would do if we were in a position of power and being asked to step down. We have to remember that Uncle Joe sees the world through his glasses and everything looks fine. His 'career ending' debate and cognitive decline shows the whole world the natural process of our minds becoming less and less able to process information. What President Biden will encounter next is his 'Tears in the Rain' moment, but he must do that in the privacy of his own home.

I am a teacher and this is how I teach my students, every once in a while I will say something that is dead wrong and then when a student points out the error, he or she gets top marks. If I were advising Biden, I would have him say that he was just testing the newsmen and women and the public on his debate performance. If he simply said, "look, I do this to see who is really listening to me, do you think I am really that far out in left field?" He could easily go on for another four years with no trouble at all if he used what I call the 'say it wrong with feeling' technique.
