I am a Republican and retired US Army Officer, John McCain was an honorable man and a true American patriot. I loved how he was with President Obama, genuine, professional, and honest. @@TulsaSooner1979 Well, at least they respected each other and kept the political climate as calm as they could keep it during the 2008 presidential election cycle. Fast forward to 2020 (keep in mind I'm a supporter of the Democratic party) and both sides are shitflinging at eachother's bases for being "communists" or "nazis" (even if both are true in fringe cases, they're used as generalization to the entire party, including the moderates like that of Manchin or McCain); I'd say '08 was a simpler time. I will have to say, however, more shitflinging comes from the modern Republican base than the Democratic base, but I may be biased. To make bridges, you must acknowledge your faults.

It brings a lump to your throat watching these two now. Despite being opponents, those two guys had one hell of a lot of respect for each other, and a camaraderie and rapport that some Presidents don't even have with people in their own party. I guess it could be because they both had the same values, morals and love and want to make their country the best it could be, and that's what tied them together - they were more the same than different. Now, all these years later, it's astonishing to think such a thing could actually exist given the past five years, yet there it is in plain view for all to see. Deepest respect to them both. How so very proud America must have been to have people like that looking out for them and lets be honest, you couldn't go wrong having either of them leading the country - you would be in good hands whoever won that election . Back then as a outsider it could even make you want to be American just to be a part of that. Now, not so much. Hopefully that will change again

@@robertshea4652 right! When McCain lost he lost with dignity and honor and stood up for what's right. He didn't throw fear mongering or insults. He said Obama was a good man. I can imagine the shit show if Trump loses.
