I used to be like that, but after making friends and getting a girlfriend you suddenly don't care what people in public think of you. Then you realize that the other people in public with friends and girlfriends feel the same way. This is exactly why it's so important to be percieved by others as unimportant. There is a strong correlation between noticing and caring. If people see you as important, they've basically already decided to notice and care about you. In an emotionally mature society with well-boundaried egos, that can be nice, even essential to our well being. But in this society I would never choose to be important, noticed or cared about. Because I would be on chronic trial for whether I can inspire, affirm and excuse every single person's insecurities that I happen to trigger. And I'm far too insecure to accommodate that.

So true. It's funny how people do think personalities matter more than issues. We try so hard not judge candidates by who they are, but fall foul to it eventually. Kinda like with the British "Pasty Tax" (which is still a stupid idea from Parliament IMO). Cameron was so quick to not be disconnected from the masses on the count of being seen publicly as a toff. Well done Onion. Reminds me to think before judging a politician completely, though that's not to say they can all get away with it.

Disgusting. I want to see a president hanging out at a bar with their young 20-something friends having the time of their lives, not chomping down on a sloppy sandwich alone. This is a huge blunder

I just don't want to see a piece of shit in office. Is that too much to ask for? We have 329M Americans. Our presidents have no shame and not once have I heard one admit there has to be someone more poised for the job than themselves.

This is about the same depth as our real news outlets cover on our politicians. Great satire once again :/

Not that anyone was wondering, but this is likely satirizing the actual Dijon mustard scandal during Obama’s presidency, when Republican pundits attacked him for putting Dijon mustard on his hamburger instead of ketchup.

The part at the end, Hu Jintao's comment upon declaring war, that was hysterically funny :)

I can relate to Obama. It's as if he is just like me, sitting there, brooding at the world, eating the sandwich all alone, smelling of sadness...

I believe this is a reference to the photo of Keanu Reeves sad and alone on a park bench, eating some bread. The image sparked the introduction of "Cheer Up Keanu Day"

This would be funny if it weren’t so true. In Britain there was an actual scandal like this where a candidate’s approval tanked because of a sodding sandwich.
