World Mechanics my obd2 will get power in certain positions; at an angle or with slight pressure applied. Will not get power plugged in normally. Vehicle is a 2014 320i xdrive (F30/N20). Will I need to repair the actual port? I’m lost

You just saved me hours and hours of aggravation. I my case it was corrosion on the load side of the fuse so the fuse tested good using a voltmeter. When I replaced the fuse, the car started right up. Thank you!

I remember a few months ago, I was trying to get a key fob to work. Had to short out a couple deals on the OBD connection. It did spark a little. I checked the cigarette fuse. Sure enough it was bad. Replaced the fuse, worked like a champ. Many Thanks.

4 years after your post I fixed a non working OBD port on 06 HD2500 truck. Wondered why only one of the power ports worked. Now I have two power ports that work and I have cleared a couple problems with my OBD reader. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this advice guys. For me and my 2009 MK7 Ford Transit, the issue wasn't the Aux or cigar lighter fuses but the interior lamp fuse (#72), labelled as battery saver/OBD II (D'oh!). As soon as I fitted a new fuse, bingo! I am SO relieved, as I thought I'd bought a non-compatible reader.

Thank you! I knew the cigarette lighter fuse was accidentally popped when metal recently fell into the open socket. But I never thought of that as the reason why two OBD scanners would not work. Great tip, and thanks again!

Thanks! My front accessory fuse in my 2004 Rendezvous was blown. It was because a penny fell into the cigar lighter socket. OBD reader is working now.

Hey didn’t even know my 3rd gen 4Runner had an actual OBD fuse in the engine compartment. Just bought a OBD2 bluetooth reader but wouldn’t turn on. Stubble on your video, wiggled & pushed the fuse. Problem solved THANKS to you guys !

Awesome, and helpful Guidance/Video. You are certainly a World Mechanic! Well I do have a similar problem, and the Scanners, does light up, yet it says No Link! After 20 years, for the first time I removed a Fuse Box cover and saw an OBD fuse, not in place 7.5 amp it is the first time I even found that Fuse Panel. I believe it is for another model, and everything came as-is from Japan. 2002 Toyota Corolla 1,5 NZR-121 FE. Are the Scanners Lighting up because it has direct power, and the 7.5 amp Fuse is needed is my question? Anyway, I used at least 6 different models OBD ll, same. Thanks for sharing your Video!

Yote Smoker Check the cigarette lighter if the fuse blows. It can short and cause the fuse to blow.

Thanks very much for the info. You saved me over US$250. I checked the Engine Control Module (ECM) fuses and they were good, I thought about replacing the computer but that was US$250 + tax, then I seen your video & replaced a missing fuse!

I was towing a 38' toy hauler and my trucks conks out. On top of that my obd2 didn't work! Your vid was the first one I checked and the blown cigarette lighter was the the problem! I got the codes pulled right away and it saved the day. Thanks for saving me a big headache.

My manual calling it a data link connector and I was looking for the MIL connector, doh! Thanks for the tip on the same line as the lighter fuse.

Anthony Follett. The lighter plug might be shorted. Replace the lighter plug if the lighter don't work. The plug is the part with the element to light a cigarette.

@@vladimiralvarez1162 not same problem. I could not read anything on obd2 reader. I check fuse and it was missing. Check ur fuse that powers ur engine diagnostics . If u have recently disconnected ur battery and fixed ur bad cords you would have to drive your about 50 miles so ur computers can check it self internally. Allowing technician to do smog check. Hope I helped . Do u have ur own obd2 scanner?

Awesome! I went to have my truck inspected yesterday and his machine wouldn't connect to my OBDII. The car before me connected fine and the car after me connected fine - suggesting that the problem is with my truck. I'll head out and take a look.

dirtyshirtinfo Check for a short with a test light at the battery clamp and post. The cigarette lighter can short. Test the fuse on both terminals to see if the light lights. Check if the light lights on one terminal with the fuse removed.

steven smith Check the cigarette lighter if the code-tester don't communicate. The element can short. Check with a test light on both terminals of the fuse. Remove the fuse and test with a test light if it lights only on one side. It should. Test for a drain with a test light at the battery clamp and post with the cable disconnected. Get a Actron CP9680 code tester.

bleechSNAK3 Check the cigarette lighter for shorts. It can blow a fuse. Test across both terminals of the fuse to see if the light comes on. That fuse may go to other circuits. The computer may short intermittently. Hook up a test light to the battery clamp and post to see if the light comes on indicating a short. The battery itself can have a short. Get a Actron CP9680 code tester for further testing.

It's not always the fuse. Sometimes it can be due to a poor connection in the car's internal wiring.
