Obed, who is 13, was born blind, and has cerebral palsy, autism, and severe intellectual disabilities, also has an amazing safety bed made by SleepSafe Beds (www.sleepsafeb...). But its NOT A CAGE (as a few viewers have tried to claim)! His amazing bed avoids the 7 major entrapment hazards identified by the FDA in a typical adjustable hospital bed. Insurance companies like to push dangerous beds on kids like Obed because they are cheaper.
Obed's Sleepsafe Bed had a price of over $13,000, but thanks to quarterly giveaway sponsored by SleepSafe Beds, we won a $10,000 credit on his customized bed. Our county's Department of Family Services picked up the ~$3000 balance as a "need" benefit to Obed as we had adopted him from the foster system.
If you know of someone who needs a bed like this and can't seem to get one through insurance, Medicaid, or any other way, please visit our non-profit charity at www.amazingfam... and check out the "Product Giveaway" link.
Note: We are not sponsored by SleepSafe Beds and receive nothing for our mentioning their bed on this video.

When Obed needs a new bed I'm sure we would all be more than willing to donate to help him, and you. Especially if the manual one becomes too difficult for you. Caregivers so often forget to care for themselves as well, I know self care was always the last thing on my mind when we where the caregivers for my wife's grandma.

Ok maybe I am not taking care of anyone with special needs but I have a great respect for those that do. I do not have the right to judge anyone. When I first saw Obed's bed it confused me,( it was also the first video of this family I had seen) but when his mom stated his diagnoses the bed makes sense. As long as these kids are loved and cared for then that is what is important.

Hearing the love in your voices when you talk about your children and how you care for them is so encouraging. In a world that is more and more being overwhelmed with hate, it is so beautiful to know that there are people out there like yourselves that care for your fellow man (and woman) with love and compassion. Thank you for giving us viewers a glimpse into your lives and your love for your family.

Think about it people who say Obed is put in a cage. A cage is usually made of metal bars or mesh and is basically used to lock up things or animals normally. This bed is NOT used for that, and Obed isn’t confined or trapped or restrained, it’s his very own chill out safe zone where he can have the freedom and space to just be himself in comfort and security!

As I sit here feeding my infant, I suddenly feel so blessed. I struggle. We all do. It’s how we handle each struggle that molds us. I see the way that you and your husband handle each obstacle that is thrown your way and I am in awe. This beautiful child of yours is so so loved. He is so blessed. This is something that, even though he cannot verbally express, he will remember. I just love the love that you give each and every one of your children.

As a nurse, I totally get. Whoever designed the bed was thoughtful about intended use adding features that make sense. I urge those who say anything else to take a job working as a care technician in a hospital. You learn very quickly a one size fits all approach actually can be harmful. So common sense and utimately love must guide the way in providing care. You inspire me! Thank you for all the love you have shared!

This is incredible!!! I genuinely think most people would benefit from a bed that allows elevations. It’s essentially a Tempur-pedic bed with safety rails 🤷🏻‍♀️ my babygirl is very tall for her age (about 3 ft and she is 14 months old 💀) and has climbed over her crib (which we use solely for playtime when mommy needs to do something urgently without her). So we had to add a toddler rail to the top so that she couldn’t climb out of where she was flopping out of 🤣

We have a special needs son with the same issues as Obed. We had to get a pediacraft bed that has mesh all the way around and on top. It unzips on all 4 sides and has protective rails as well. Kristoffer likes to move around and climb out, so in order to protect him we had to have full enclosure. Your son is a doll, love his smile.

Wow! What a terrific invention! I’m so glad Obed was able to get one, I’m sure everyone sleeps better now! People are very silly and don’t know what they’re talking. They need to walk a mile in a special needs parent’s shoes. My friend did service in a very poor area of rural Philippines and worked with a family who had an adult son with severe intellectual disabilities. They had no money, there were no special needs services or supports, no equipment, no schools, no day centers, no resources, no help. The young man was very strong and kept running off and getting lost or hurt so the family had to build him an actual cage in their yard to keep him safe. At first glance my friend was taken aback until he realized this was just an adult sized play pen. The young man was happy, loved, cared for, and he was SAFE. And bless that family for doing the best they could for their son with what little resources they had!
