2020 taught me a lot. It taught me that maybe you have good plans in the near future, but you just never know when something unbelievable could happen. Second thing I’ve learned is as a blind and autistic individual, I should never take my life for granted. Third thing I learned, stay away from the news, and the arguments online about certain topics. Because it just causes me unnecessary anxiety and depression. And that’s not good for my health, nor is it good for my CPTSD. I Find distractions that involve the things that I love.

Try a higher key so you can actually sing those low notes.

I’m laughing when Hannah was making her sound effects and Joe had to let her know she was being too loud. I mean, it is funny. Even though she is out in public, we all know she wasn’t trying to be loud. She was just being herself. And even Joe knew that. I’m probably had for laughing, but I honestly can’t help it. It’s ok, I don’t always recognize how loud I can be either until someone points it out to me. Keep it up with the sound effects Hannah. You guys are such great parents.

6:27 I'm with Hannah entirely. I know everyone adores dogs, but sometimes it can be very overwhelming for us that don't like dogs to have them pushed on us. Karen keeps telling her she's missing out, but I think that's subjective.

We need to be more like Obed. You would think being completely blind and autistic could cause some anxiety when doing things like this. Because they could possibly have that fear of “what if it hurts?” Especially as a blind person, you can’t see what a nurse or a doctor or a therapist is coming up to you with. But Obed is enjoying every minute of it. And yes, I love sensory input too just like Obed.

I wish I could meet you guys

I can relate to Hannah. I’m completely blind and autistic. I love routines too. I’ve gotten better at handling changes. But it’s the big changes and transitions I have a hard time with. But when I feel myself feeling in a dither about it, then I’m EXTREMELY hard on myself for feeling the way I am. So I try to bottle my emotions and shelf them and I don’t allow myself to communicate them to anybody. Because I feel like how I’m feeling isn’t vallid enough and how I feel doesn’t matter. I do have some amazing coping skills, especially music. But I think I use them to distract myself from actually feeling my emotions. When I should really be using them to communicate instead of pushing them down and saying, “conceal. Don’t feel. Stop feeling.”

Was making my bed yesterday and happened to sigh “oh bed…” (never said before lol) but seconds later Obed’s name rung a bell. I thought of your lovely family the smiles laughter and daily being a good person! So glad to still have these videos to enjoy with the kids. Oh my storms I know Hannah and Bethany the awesome caregiver and Jessie also with her beautiful hair are doing well also! I will take virtual learning any day. Of course I don't want people to get sick, but in my opinion, the best thing that came out of Covid for me was virtual/.tance learning. I was in college at the time, and I couldn't hedle the classrooms and in-person learning, as it was too overwhelming, and , as with many of my years in school, I learned nothing. In addition to being blind, I have sensory processing disorder and also am probably ⠕⠝ the spectrum. I could not stand in-person learning because of the classrooms, like I said, and the buzzing of the lights and projectors and all the computers, etc. If I could redo my school days, even starting from kindergarten, I would want to be homeschooled. It really depends on the student. One size does not fit all. When one of my teachers asked us once on a zoom meeting how we liked online learning, and it was my turn to speak, I unmuted and said, "In the words of the McDonalds slogan, ba da ba ba ba, I lovin' it." LOL.

I know it’s been some years since this video was posted. I hope you are all well. I just recently heard about an Olympic sport for blind people called “goalball”. It looks really fun. I just wondered if you’ve heard of it.

As someone who is completely blind and autistic, I’ve had family members play cruel tricks on me. They’d pull chairs out from where I was about to sit to see if I would fall on the floor or notice if they moved the chair. They’d open closet doors wide enough in hopes that I’d either run into it or if I would notice it and just shut the door. Now, I would never mock someone with an intellectual disability. That’s not ok. Now, I might try out some of the coping skills that they use to regulate themselves. But if it doesn’t work, then I just stop doing it. I’ve been working on replacing certain aggressive behaviors with music. Because communicating through music is way better than blurting out verbal aggression or even self aggression. Watching your videos has inspired me to want to work on so many ideas. To be more independent, to use better regulation skills and get rid of the ones that are not so good. But just to keep being positive about myself.

I remember learning how to do my laundry for the first time. It took some time figuring how to do everything from my wheelchair but I got there! I hope you guys are having a wonderful summer and continuing to conquer new skills and goals!

Fun fact, because of my septo-optic dysplasia, I don’t have a sense of smell. I was born without A sense of smell. Also, some of my stimming is due to my blindness. And some of my stimming is due to being on the autism spectrum.

Bethany is one of my favorite people in the whole world. She just makes everything better.
