The idea is that Vader had to let go of his anger for Obi-Wan because it made him reckless and foolish and he becomes the more mature bad guy you see in the original trilogy eventually because he did act differently in this one to an extent. That's why you hear The imperial March at the end finally.

The "You didn't kill Anakin, I did" is very important. It references two scenes from the original trilogy : 1) Ep. IV, when Obi-Wan tells Luke about his father "A young jedi who used to be a pupil of mine turned to evil and murdered your father" 2) Ep VI, when Luke asks Obi-Wan why did he told him father was dead " Your father was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed." Obi-Wan never lied to Luke about his father, nor he hide the truth from him. He told him the story as Anakin himself had told him.

lets get real, this is all just writers changing their minds later down the line and adding in a line of dialogue to fix something that doesn't work with their new ideas, or writers who had nothing to do with a previous work deciding to take it in a different direction and just lazily changing what was previous set with a single line of dialogue.

I've always believed that Hayden Christensen was dealt a bad hand in the prequel trilogy by being asked to fill perhaps the biggest shoes in modern cinema history, combined with some shotty writing and poor character development. For him to have the balls to step back into this role after all this time has garnered a lot of respect from fans, compounded with the fact that we actually got to see what Hayden could do with GOOD writing. The scene where Hayden is in the suit for all of 2 minutes has redeemed 2 decades of negative publicity for a solid actor that has earned my respect forever.
@helmedon
@helmedon Жыл бұрын
I did think Hayden was all that good as Anakin. Could just be that they had to squeeze a lot of character development for Anakin to fall to the Darkseid so quickly. Not the actor's fault but the writing and pace. So much h happened to Anakin in the Clone Wars, in the comics, etc. that explain his fall I think they rushed it in the final film.

It’s a beautiful “rhyme” in Star Wars. While we see Ahsoka slash his masks right side open a few years after this in Rebels, here he is opened on his left. One by master. One by apprentice. Anakin Skywalker is my favorite fictional character precisely because he's so flawed, but his flaws are relatable. Boiled down, and before the ST, the SW series central themes was basically family and love. In the PT Anakin's fear of losing his family made him compromise everything he believed in and it destroyed him. It took the love of his son, who knew nothing but the worst of him but still risked his life to save him, for Anakin to reject the Dark Side and kill both Vader and Palpatine.

29:12 "That was the tiniest cameo... wasn't it?" I actually met Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine) at Washington State Summercon which was the weekend before the last episode of Obi-Wan premiered. Of course, a lot of fans were pestering him and Bonnie Piesse (Beru) about it. Professionally, and courteously, they told us to wait and see what happens. The frequently most asked questions they got were, "Does this 'character' appear?" But I respect them so much for managing to keep the entire series finale a secret and they allowed us to enjoy ending. I imagine if we were all in the theaters watching these episodes, we would have had a spectacular reaction.

As amazing a journey as Star Wars is, watching the journey of you seeing Episode 3 and him killing younglings and Rogue One where you "hate him so much" and yet here we are and like the rest of us you see Anakin is still in there. We saw him grow up, saw his triumphs and failures and fall, but beneath it all we know he is still redeemable like Padme told ObiWan "there is good in him". And in the end it seems, like us, you hate what Anakin gave himself over to but not Anakin himself. Of all the reaction channels your journey has been the best.

I loved how they did the Qui-Gon cameo. I like how Qui-Gon didn’t come to speak to Obi-Wan to “save him” when he was in trouble. That Obi-Wan had to sort himself out, and especially his connection to the force, to do what he needed to do, and that by virtue of that close connection to the force (probably closer than he’d ever had in his time as a Jedi) he was able to finally see Qui-Gon. Us older fans have been suffering blow after blow ever since Disney turned Star Wars into some mushy/cutsie/nostalgia-driven/ pile of garbage. Not only did we lose Luke Skywalker (a loss because Luke went from being a strong willed, balanced Jedi into a hermit who considered killing his own nephew cuz of a 'bad dream') but now we have the same thing happening to Kenobi (a once powerful Jedi turning into a bumbling buffoon with pedophilia tendencies). Luke knew Ben prior to A New Hope. They both had more interactions together as Luke was very comfortable with him. It wasn't just this meeting. I hope they will show this in hopefully a season 2 and more interactions with Qui Gon. Plenty of stories to tell if they want too. Oh and Disney must do a Vader series. There could be Anakin and Obi-Wan flashbacks in it as well. Show Vader in his prime up to Rogue One.

After seeing real life Clone Troopers in this series and being shocked that they weren’t CGI, I kinda want a Clone Wars story line that just focuses on the battles over systems in the galaxy. I normally don’t care for the prequel era but I just feel like Disney is milking the OT era too much. Besides, a prequel era series with practical effects would be mental.

I hate it. It completely ruins the immersion and reeks of plot armor. But they started this mess in Episode 7, with both Kylo and Finn surviving their injuries. Injuries that would have killed any side character. Well, I guess Lucas laid the foundation for this mess when he brought back Maul. But at least he had bigger plans behind that decision than Disney was able to pull off, at the end of the day Maul didn't change anything. He just played crime lord for a bit, being the average nuisance, before finally meeting the same fate as before. Unless the dark side saves him again? His return should have been foreshadowed in The Phantom Menace for it to ever be credible. Just a sign of life at the bottom of the pit, right before the peace ceremony would have been enough. Since that wasn't included they should have stuck with the assumed demise and ended his arc in Episode 1.

The Star Wars series we've been getting have been really good, including this one! I watched carefully to see if I could find any egregious flaws, but other than several "convenient" escapes so that someone doesn't die at the end of a lightsaber duel, I really think they did a good job keeping the show within the constraints of canon. It was great seeing Ewan and Hayden return! Between the two of them, they make up my two favorite Star Wars characters. Obi Wan is my favorite Jedi and Vader is my favorite Sith! And yes, both Hayden Christensen and James Earl Jones are both responsible for bringing the gravitas Vader possesses. Hayden for the tragic aspect of the character, and James Earl Jones for the fear factor! I also really liked lil' Leia. Child actors can be hit and miss, but she seemed genuinely wise beyond her years, but not so much that it compromised the silliness of her age. "Make me float! I wanna float!" All in all a quality chapter in the Star Wars canon, and an excellent examination of the period this show resides in, as well as that of Kenobi as a character! I do highly recommend The Mandalorian and Book Of Boba Fett, but you would do well to watch The Clone Wars and Rebels first, even if it's on your own time. I know it's a lot of material to cover, but these shows will make MUCH more sense if you do!

Exactly. Reva had given in to anger and rage and the Dark Side. Her "justice" was to exact revenge on Vader/Anakin in any way that she could. The means justified the ends from this dark side perspective. She did many bad things, presumably, in order to get in a position to take Vader out. But she didn't take the final step, and instead stepped back. Her "justice" was the Old Testament "eye for an eye" justice.

Actually it really makes no sense regarding the plot. She wants revenge. Ok. She wants to kill Vader. Ok. She did bad things to get close enough. She was close enough and then .... instead of killing him, you know ... her motivation, she tried to kill civilians because .....? And in the end she came to the conclusion to attack him just directly. What a great plan 😅 And killing Luke? Again a great example of dumb writing. She said she wants justice. If she would have say "revenge" the whole scene whould made 10 times more sense. In general the whole series has so many problems which could have been fixed soooo easy. The old music wasn't used because this series was A) before the first trilogy and B) the characters weren't ready for it. Vader was not yet the ultimate Vader. He was distracted and so focused on getting Obi-Wan that it was affecting his ultimate due loyalty to the Emperor's agenda. Palpatine seemed to have given him some leeway early to see if Vader could remove Obi-Wan as a threat and get it out of his system. In that scene between Vader and Palpatine you saw the most effective and quietly delivered verbal spanking ever delivered. In 4 quiet sentences, with no overt threat implied, Palpatine told Vader to refocus or, probably, he would be dead. In saying "I serve only you, my Master" Anakin's desires were finally subverted and Vader stepped to the fore as the ultimate servant of Palpatine. Hence the Imperial March playing on scene exit. Shift to Alderaan: Leia is now dressing herself and making her own choices about what she wears. Her experiences have forged the birth of the future leader of the Rebel Alliance. Instead of running from her future as a senator of Alderaan and as a leader of people, she now embraces it. So, when Obi-Wan and Leia are saying good bye, it is Leia's theme from the original trilogy playing in the background. Obi-Wan tells Leia "May the Force be With You." This is probably the first time in a decade he has said that to ANYONE. It is probably the first time he has felt enough like himself, and sure enough in his connection to the Force to be able to say it. In the background the correct music is playing as he does this. Qui-Gon didn't appear until the last because Obi-Wan in his PTS, his grief, and his guilt feelings had ended up cutting himself from the Force. He was more blind to it than probably when he was untrained padawan. Once he had become free and dealt with his trauma, his inner eyes opened again and while he would never be the exact same cavalier optimistic fellow he used to be, he had grown in maturity and could enjoy a more mature and stronger connection to the living Force. The Kenobi that came out of that hole was the strongest as a Jedi that he had ever been. He had finally processed his guilt and grief and was now ready to face the future. Most of the angst surrounding fan reaction to this series, I personally believe, came from impatient, backseat driving fans who were unable to let the meal fully cook before they started criticizing the cooking. The soup course was barely served and they were complaining about not just the main course, but also the dessert, before either had ever been served.

Vader's true identity was always one of the absolute most hidden secrets in the Empire. Besides for Vader & Palpatine, no one else was supposed to know. Tarkin, somehow, knew, I just don't remember how he did & could still live. Maybe Vader never knew that Tarkin knew. Otherwise, Vader killed anyone who found out, if they ever saw him unmasked or in whatever way ever learned that he is really Anakin. One more Imperial did figure it out, his name is Grand Admiral Thrawn but you still don't know about this tactical genius. But he met Anakin during the Clone Wars & when he years later met him again as Vader he recognized the same piloting skills & realized it must be the same man. Otherwise, besides for our few heroes on the good side, absolutely no one at all in the galaxy knew that Vader was Anakin. It was the state secret of state secrets. Also, Vader never wanted to be reminded of who he once was, too painful. Anyone reminding him of it, even by accident, was met with his wrath. Only Palpatine, obviously, could get away with it. So, if you ever rewatch the OT & when Luke calls Vader as Anakin Skywalker AND gets away with it with a mere harsh tone from Vader... that means quite a lot! Vader loved his son so much, without realizing it himself, that he allowed Luke to talk to him like that but still warning him not to. All else who did were slaughtered.

I am skeptical about that. The fact is that Mace Windu invented a whole new combat style based on using the dark side of the force while fighting, which is why he was so powerful and the ONLY Jedi to ever best Sidious in a duel. Also, there are a such thing as Gray Jedi, who use both the light and the dark sides of the force. The most famous example I can think of being Jolee Bindo from the Knights of the Old Republic video game. Frankly, the more I learn about Star Wars lore, the more it seems like the dark side of the force doesn't corrupt people, it is just that once people become corrupt, they use the dark side of the force more often. It wasn't the dark side of the force that corrupted Anakin. It was Sidious.

@@KurNorock so a couple of things to address: first of all, Grey Jedi are not canon and they never have been. George Lucas hated the idea of grey Jedi and did not consider them canon, neither does Disney. Anakin turned because he wanted to save Padme, and yet he insisted that she turned against him, and tried to kill her. And we have more evidence of the dark side corrupting people. Ezra Bridger from Rebels used the dark side to protect those he cared about, and ignored their warnings, blamed them for not trusting him, and risked their lives without thinking twice about it. Quinlin Voss tried using both the light and dark side, he fell to the dark side and became a secret apprentice to Dooku because the dark side corrupted him. Fun fact about the Grand Inquisitor, he was a Temple Guard at the Jedi Temple that grew disgusted and disillusioned with the Order when the refused to support Ahsoka Tano, Anakin's teenaged padawan, when she was framed for bombing the Temple and nearly locked away for life in a kangaroo court. That's why he's so loyal to Vader and willing to see the last of the ORder destroyed. Only Anakin believed in her innocence enough to fight for her and he ended up solving the case and capturing the real traitor, Barriss Offee (one of Ahsoka's closest friends) on his own when even Obiwan turned his back on her. Ahsoka then left the Order once she was freed because she refused to trust them when they did not believe in her, further isolating Anakin from one of the handful of people that actually cared about him. (Of course Palpatine was planning to imprison or execute her under the authority of the Republic to get her away from Anakin one way or another, but her leaving the Order on her own served his purposes and helped Anakin trust the Jedi even less without having to follow through.)

Personally I loved how they did the music. Using the Imperial March early / often would've been a cheap appeal to nostalgia, but they used it only once, at the very end, after the Emperor had Vader put his obsession with Obi Wan aside and become the Vader we know from the original trilogy. Just using that music would've cheapened it, instead by using it there and only there they added so much weight to it, and to the moment itself. It even parallels Qui Gon only showing up after Obi Wan re-found his sense of duty, his inner peace as a Jedi. Overall the storytelling in that final fight was amazing in general, even if Obi Wan yeeting all those rocks was a bit much imo.

Reva wanted revenge on Vader, but she had definitely turned to the dark side. Ends justify the means when it comes to the dark side. She was prepared to cut thru any obstacle to get to him, so the irony of killing children to do it never hit her until she had a defenseless youngling in front of her

I have a theory (although it may even be official) that the dark side has a rapid snowball effect on the consciences and sanities of those who fall under its influence, which would help to explain why Anakin goes just so quickly from telling Mace Windu about Palpatine, to cutting off Mace's hand yet immediately saying "What have I done?" afterwards, to straight up "killing younglings" and choking Padme.

Tala and Ned-B are going down as two of the best characters in Star Wars ever, and the final duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader is in my opinion one of the most iconic fights ever. Andor kicks off late next month. The first season will be twelve episodes long. More news from Star Wars and Marvel is expected to drop on Disney Plus day. This year, it'll be on Thursday, September 8th.

Does Disney even know what it's doing? For some reason Andor which no one was asking for gets 12 episodes and multiple seasons but Obi-Wan and most of the Marvel shows get a measly 6 episodes and one season only even though people wanted more.

I gotta say, I'm glad this really really made it make more sense as to why Leia would name her son Ben. Prior to this I was like what, she named her son after some old dude her dad knew and she never met? Weird. This makes alot more sense for this Canon timeline
@SwiftFoxProductions
@SwiftFoxProductions Жыл бұрын
It, also, makes more sense why Leia would specifically reach out to Obi-Wan for help when she needed it in the original film and why she immediately recognized the name Ben Kenobi as an alias for Obi-Wan when Luke used that name when he first rescued her (when he said that he was "here with Ben Kenobi").

McGreggor studies Alec Guinness voice before returning to the Obi Wan role. We didn't get the Force Theme, Leia's Theme or the Imperial March until the end, when Obi Wan fully reconnected with the force, when Leia came to terms with her role as a leader, and when Vader finally gave up vengeance and fully became the Darth Vader we saw in Rogue One and A New Hope. There is a two and a half our fan cut of the series that flows a lot better and removes a lot of the "fluff".

I think this is another one of those shows where the negative feedback comes from people who expect shows (or movies) to be made exactly the way they would personally make them. I enjoyed Obi-Wan a lot. These days it seems there are more and more people who think that because they don't like something, it makes it absolute rubbish. In reality, its just not their personal taste.
@notatthistime3867
@notatthistime3867 Жыл бұрын
And you would be wrong with that assessment. It's not "rubbish" because it wasn't made exactly they way I wanted it. It's rubbish because of how they destroy the cannon, create plot holes, all to appease how Darth Kathleen Kennedy wants things and shills just defend it. This series now makes Leia's recording in A New Hope to Obi utterly stupid. The conjecture that she would have her memory wiped to explain it away didn't happen. Now that Darth knows all he has to do is kidnap Leia in order to draw out Obi, why isn't he constantly doing that? Why wasn't Bail Organa immediately arrested now that they know he and Obi have a close connection? The whole purpose of Obi being on Tattooine was to watch Luke and protect him. How could he do that working as a butcher, with his light saber buried in the sand. He was utterly useless with the force, so what would he have done to save LUke from a Tusken Raider attack? Once again, Identity politics gets injected in Star Wars where it doesn't belong. Before the show even aired we were told it would be RACIST if we didn't like Riva. Even Cassie called out her stupid motivations. She wants revenge on Darth for killing innocent people so she kills innocent people to get close to Darth? Beyond stupid. Her ability to survive a direct light saber stab to the stomach as a youngling and surviving is stupid. How exactly would someone in her condition get past all the clone troopers? Too bad Qui-Gon Jin didn't self-identify as a strong woman of color. He would have survived his wound from Darth Maul. Too bad Obi didn't self-identify as a Mary Sue (Rey), he could have just forced healed him. Disney Star Wars just gets worse and worse and does nothing but take a big dump on the OT characters. Especially if they are White and Male.

If you got something out of it, good for you Kevin, I'm definitely not going to dunk on you for liking something. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a certain level of quality from Star wars however, and there were so many plot holes, reversed character development, and bad writing in the show that I'd argue it's the worst piece of star wars media I've ever seen.

@@notatthistime3867 tbh I'm not even sure it's a white thing. What they did to Finn's character development in the new trilogy was horribly incompetent, it's like they just forgot he was there. George Lucas treated his black characters far better than Disney has. Knowing Kathleen's personal politics, it's painfully obvious she's going for a "woman power" message, but if you're gonna do that at least be professional enough to not make it at the expense of men, while you freeload off their success by using their name for your show because deep down you know that's who your audience wants to see.

Loved the show. It’s imperfect but I don’t think it deserves the hate that it has gotten. Not that it matters, it takes 5-10 years for most Star Wars projects to be accepted by the bulk of the fandom/Internet any way and anything that has come out in the years since is considered inferior. If you don’t believe me compare the initial attitudes to the prequel trilogy, Clone Wars, Rebels, etc. with how the majority treats them now

Accept what? That a 10-year-old Disney prince is brighter than obi-wan? Or that Jedi and bounty hunter can't outrun a 10-year-old. Or that people miraculously survive getting stabbed by a lightsaber three times. Maybe that obi wan is now responsible for all the death and destruction in the prequels ( Episode 1-2-3 +4-5-6 ) or perhaps the other 50 wrong things about this series.

I appreciate how much the star wars universe seems to love its strong women; Leia, Padme, Rey, Aunt Beru, etc. and I'm all for more strong women in the media, but the entire time I was watching this, I was like, there is no way a ten-year-old would be this mature. Like, she doesn't whine or complain even once. Not even one "are we therrre yeeet??" and she doesn't get tired of walking and plop down, and she doesn't ask a million awkward questions, and she is never hungry, or picky, or anything that a child would be. If anything, she was far more mature than Obiwan, who was more short-tempered and whiny than the child in his custody? I love a strong woman in media, but if we want to create role models, we have to give them relatable qualities. Like, it doesn't serve anybody to depict a 10 year old girl who is the wisest, most mature, and most capable leader right from the start. Did she even have an arc? No. She was just born perfect, and Obiwan's arc was that at first he didn't acknowledge it, but then he did? Come on, people. What was Padme's arc? Rey had her own trilogy, but what was her arc? In literature, they would be described as a Mary Sue, a character that has no flaws or weaknesses, but I would just say it's lazy writing. Let us see some development. Show us *how* Leia grew up to be such a good leader.
