Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi has concluded, we have Ryan George's Pitch Meeting! Ryan points out a lot of things in the show that we agree with. And while this show was by no means perfect (in our humble opinions at least) it was still a lot of fun to get to watch a new show in the Star Wars Universe and to have Ewan McGregor back in the titular role of Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as Hayden Christenson as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Getting to see young Princess Leia and young Luke Skywalker was also delightful and Vivien Lyra Blair was so good as young Leia! How do you guys feel about the show? Looking forward to Andor coming up next?

@@coachmikesfilmroom3111 but we're talking about narrative convention not subject matter; you can tell a good story about wizards where the plot and character arcs crescendo. Yep! You nailed it. Disney needs writers who are totally NOT consumed with online chatter. But isolate themselves and explore many of these characters and test run a private screening of a few scenes of content to see the audience's reaction. It's amazing watching Disney do headstands and flip-flops because a few people want the old corny Star Wars rehashed over and over, and others want new characters, while some just hate everything that's going on.

At most the only characters we could get in that which we have seen or heard of before are Yoda and Darth Plagueis. But yeah, sign me up for a 'The Old Republic' series set 1000+ years in the past and/or a post-Sequel Trilogy series set 50 years after the events of Episode 9 or something like that.

There's so much more freedom to come up with ideas when you separate yourself from what the general audience already knows. Show us something new, it's not that difficult. Personally I'd like to go so far into the past or future where theres no mention of any of the movies. I have not understood this modern need for Hollywood 'writers' to include a lot of easter eggs from the past in modern incarnations of shows/films. Especially like this one which is supposed to be seen as a separate chapter in the saga. Yet, when you read an actual book the chapters don't do easter egg callbacks. Even in the past whenever a film sequel was made it did not include easter eggs. Look at the sequel to Airport (Airport 75), you can see it as a continuation because George Kennedy is in both, and both deal with airplanes/airports, but you don't see the writers of '75 including scenes from the first film. As the series goes one there is not call back to the catch phrase 'The Stewardess is FLYING the plane!', So, why do we need all these easter eggs now? Is it because the writers are not talented enough to, you know, write.

This show had a lot of inconsistencies in editing. I didn't want to blame the director for the script, but how it was edited does fall on her. I was expecting more from Deborah Chow. The one in the tunnel really threw me off, how Reva was able to kidnap the princess after discovering the start of the tunnel without running into Tala who was doubling back made no sense to me. Also, the first kidnap chase of Leia was ridiculous. The chase where Obi-Wan was trying to catch Leia was also ridiculous.
@holdyourfire74
@holdyourfire74 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the chase scenes especially the first were some of the worst. The tunnel scene doesn't bother me too much. Once she saw the tunnel she most likely would have realized they were heading for the port so she just went there to prevent the escape. The editing was bad though and did not indicate that at all so that's just my head canon. The 3rd episode was just full of inconsistencies. It did get better (still with issues) though from that point and the finale really hit emotionally so I still loved it overall.

RE: Reva's Plan to be an Inquisitor to get closer to Vader: It should be noted that those that are possible inquisitors go through straight up torture and emotional/physical manipulation before they become full inquisitors. The "Training" is essentially purposefully completely twisting and immersing a candidate in the darkside. By the time Reva becomes an inquisitor (aka survives the torture/training) it's intended that she'd be just as bad as the rest of the inquisitors (regardless of what her original reasons & moralities were). To put it in a different way, imagine someone's parents dying while the Ring Wraiths persue the ring and comes to the conclusion that joining a Sauron Cult to get the chance to steal the ring to destroy it... but to be in the cult you have to be ritually exposed to the ring under intense pressures and by the time you can do what you set out to do you are exactly what you hated to begin with. (the analogy got away from me but that's not unlike what the "Training" to be an inquisitor is like.)
@EskChan19
@EskChan19 Жыл бұрын
Except the show also never tries to portray it as bad. The show wants you to think that this plan makes sense and that she is a hero for killing dozens of innocents to possibly get a shot at killing a bad guy and not killing a child when she had the chance. That's the issue. The problem is not her plan per say, it's how the show presents it. Because the show COULD have tried to portray it the way you said. That she became what she hated because of the manipulation by the Sith. But the show constantly tries to show you how heroic she is and tries to validate her. And that's where it all falls apart. Because slaughtering people who just want to be left in peace is never going to be heroic even if you do it for the greater good and not killing a child (only after imagining herself in his place, mind you, until she saw herself she had no issues whatsoever with killing a random child) is not "heroic", it's the bare minimum. And the show trying to show what a good person she has been all along is really the problem with this whole plot.

The other reviewers who appreciated a major plot point being resolved by an insulting JOKE are to be ignored for selling their bodies to Disney. If he'd put Leia on his BACK and disguised as like a hunch backed human or alien, that's one thing. But she's LITERALLY JUST WALKING NORMALLY NEXT TO HIM THROUGH DOZENS OF SOLDIERS WHILE BARELY BEING COVERED! And this is a major plot point because it's how they escape the super prison!

Keep in mind Vader is FIGHTING THE REBELLION so if you wanted to fight Vader, as well as EVERYTHING he stands for, you would join the rebellion. Reva, the moron, decided to murder children and display their preserved bodies as trophies. If she had joined the rebellion, or before it's formed hidden and trained her abilities while searching for more Jedi as allies (you know, like Cal Kestis did), then she could have fought AGAINST the Inquisitors, and eventually Vader would come after her himself and she'd have her chance to fight him WHILE working the whole time to impede his ability to MURDER CHILDREN. But no, clearly the most logical way to fight Vader, was to join the dark side, murder children, torture innocent civilians, and just be generally a fucking nightmare of a person.

No it's not. Vader is an emotion driving machine fueled by hate. He's not known for his 3D Chess moves. And even if that WAS the case, the show should have made that a plot point at some point. If you need internet fans to make up excuses for your script, you're a shitty writer, simple as that.

Disney had all the money for CGI. But looking at this show the quality is just subpar. And the story, who writes these shows? They need to up their quality than quantity. That goes to Marvel too. Because it feels like they’re just all depending on the IP and making it a “cashcow”.

Pretty much. Star Wars fans are in a permanent state of dissatisfaction because they beg Disney to produce uninspired spinoffs and then act surprised when the uninspired spinoffs suck. They can’t wrap their minds around the idea that spinoffs are inherently restrictive.

Whether something is good or not overall is very subjective. Can't really be helped. What can be helped is the attention to detail, it's consistency and at the very least have things makes sense. The only big series of this recent slate of things to completely nail it for me has been Stranger Things. Obi-Wan made me brow bend more than a few times. Don't get me started on that "The Boys" finale that actually made me think about how much of a completely pointless season it was...good, but pointless. That and the fact that it too had glaring inconsistencies, parts didn't make sense...dropped ball when it came to attention to detail. I liked Obi-Wan overall, but I think this is one Pitch Meeting where everyone was asking these things.

@@randomcontentguy2521 Yea, totally agree, I should have said, what I think the writers are trying to say is this. But I totally agree with you, this show shouldn't even have Vader on it, or they should only fight by proxy, it doesn't make sense to have this fight, the show is kind of pointless on his own but they could have done a total spin off or they should have just done a different story all together, which I think it would be better, start a new world and go from there.

In my opinion, Disney should have made a Qui-Gon Jinn show, from his life as a padawan to Count Dooku, becoming a master himself to how Obi-Wan Kenobi became his apprentice leading to Episode 1. After all he is the maverick of the Jedi Council and the story of how his philosophy of "feel don't think; use your instincts" would be engaging and interesting.

darth vader has the conflcit, he still needs approval from Obi Wan, that's low-key why he let him go, he wants Obi wan to acknowledge his powers. and that's shown when he struggles to accept Sidious as a master in the last episode's last scene. Moreover, he has a habit of letting people go, everytime. Because he wants to cherish the hunt, give into his anger and hatred and do the killing slowly to cherish it. it's almost everytime. so yeah, him letting obiwan go is okay lol.
