The Gedo Statue is summoned when the Rinnegan activates. It's one of the abilities of the Rinnegan, like Shinra Tensei, and Rinne Tensei; almost automatic. It's why it came out of nowhere, when Nagato accidentally used it, albeit, unlike Madara, who is the real owner of the Rinnegan, and an Uchiha, he (Nagato) ended up being paralyzed when the black rods came out his back.

idk if you guys realise but madara is the only character in the series who awakened rinegan. he gave his rinnegan to nagato, then obito took the rinnegan. and now as a reanimation he got his original rinegan back, all the rinnegan in the series are his ATM

Madara said in this episode that his EMS eyes (Izuna's eyes) are with someone else, namely Nagato because the Uzumaki are the cousins of the Senju. His original MS eyes were destroyed from overuse in one of the last battles before the Uchiha Senju alliance and Konoha were established. He transplanted his Rinnegan eyes to Nagato after summoning the Gedo Statue aka the Ten Tails Husk. Madara and Kabuto also talked about his supposed death when Madara fought Gaara's division. They talked about how Madara achieved Rinnegan manifestation through getting Hasirama's DNA in their last battle at Final Valley. It should be fairly obvious by now that you need both a Senju Body and Sharingan eyes to awaken the Rinnegan. You also need to think about the fact that there were no Senju Uchiha halflings in 1000 years since the Sage of Six Paths since both clans came from said Sage. You'll learn more about it in future episodes but think about the low chances of no Uchiha and Senju's to mate even after Konoha was created. Edit: I know many pointed my 'mistake' about the Rinnegan Manifestation out. It was poor wording from my part. What I wanted to try with my wording was to say that Rinnegan manifestation was tried many times over the years and that many transmigrates could've been female with a male counterpart.

C'mon guys... the Gedo statue... remember when Nagato, the guy who got Madara's eyes summoned the Gedo statue. It was Madara's all along. Even Tobi (acting as Madara) said that Nagato had his (Madara's ) eyes. Good call on him using his brother's eye though...And Tobi's jutsu does not come from the Mangekyo. It is his natural Uchia power. The first part of the Sharingan makes him pass through things. The Mangekeyo makes him teleport, pull others in etc.

Remeber Madara (Edo tensei) says to Kabuto that he awoke the Rinnegan prior to his death (when he was already old). So when he says here that he gave his original eyes to another person he is refering to Nagato (the one with his original eyes). Thats why Obito says to Konan that he (refering to Madara) was the one who gave the Rinnegan to Nagato.

The fact Madara knew a lot about Obito's backlife feels creepy.....the poor boy fell on the hands of a crazy man who was supposed to be dead for good. He was abandoned, forgotten and isolated. I postponed my shower just to wait for JD to drop this episode...so worth it. So long story short would be after taking part of Hashirama's cells, Madara attempted to awaken the Rinnegan (since he was an EMS user who had both Indra & Ashura's chakra) but it took decades to awaken. He awakened it late in his old age, summoned the Gedo Statue and attached his life force to it to sifon chakra from it, then transplanted his Rinnegan into Nagato since he was an Uzumaki with monsterous Chakra i.e enough to control the Rinnegan (which is what he mean by "My eyes are on loan to another). Then here we see him using a spare Sharingan.

I think Obito's reason for carrying out Madara's plan is not rin's death alone, its explained that in Obito's ideal world Rin would still like Kakashi and Obito would be getting along with Kakashi just like when they were getting along right before the boulder fell on him, he wanted to go back to the good old days of Team Minato. Also he technically witnessed things like third great ninja war and all of Danzo's plans which showed how truly messed up the shinobi world is. So I don't think Obito did all this because he was a simp for Rin.

that eye wasn't his either. His eyes were the Rinnegan and he said he loaned it to someone else. Yes he implanted it to Nagato as a toddler. There was currently only one pair of Rinnegan on earth at that point. The Sharingan eye he has there is just from his eye collection only, it's not his brother's nor his own eye. His brother's eyes later evolved to the Rinnegan and were loaned to Nagato which is now in Obito's right eye and the other one is hidden

When they take the other set of eyes, it becomes one, so his brothers are part of his originals, which he gave to an infant nagato after turning them into rinnegan due to combining his uchiha blood with hashirama's senju blood, which are descendants of the sons of the sage of six paths... nagato couldn't turn the rinnegan off because they weren't his, but he was also a uzumaki, which is on the family tree side of the senju, so they have a lot of chakra reserves... also, it's kinda implied that obito moved through the ground into a cave that madara made... even though that's his mangekyo ability... kinda a plot hole but also cool since that would be a good moment to unlock it, but he didnt so... idk, that's an acceptable plot hole IMO.

Madara's eyes were given to Nagato, because Nagato was an Uzumaki, Nagato could master the Rinnegan well. Madara plans to make Nagato use Rinne Tensei to revive Madara after Nagato and Akatsuki manage to gather the Bijuu.

My interpretation is that Obito already unlocked the Kamui because he was getting ready to die. Unlock the sharingan by saving kakashi then the Mangekyou bcuz he was on the brink of death in which he slipped through the rocks

Madara's original eyes are blind. To get the EMS he transplanted both eyes from his brother Izuna, not just one of them. Like Sasuke, at this point he has both of Itachi's eyes in him. So Madara's eyes are Izuna's eyes. He stated that he loaned both eyes to someone and at the moment has one spare eye. We don't know where he got that eye from

I dont think Madara's statement has any truth, it's just careful phrasing by the author to kind of throw people off and subtly foreshadow his Mangekyou ability.
