Kakashi actually mentions Obitos name in episode 81 of the first Naruto series, so yea I think the writers already had an idea of where they were going with the story long term. But none of us even realized it at the time.

what's clever in Tobi = Obito is that Kishimoto knew that the very moment the "reveal" would appear (and TONS of people guessed it), the question would switch instantly and the mystery will still be there. it's not about WHO is the masked man, it's about WHY. Why you Obito ? What happened to you, who finally became Kakashi's friend, YOU the hero of Kannabi bridge battle who died tragically as a youngster, never having confessed your love ?

Yea, i remember back in early manga days of 09, 10 people were constantly talkin about this. A lotta people already assumed Obito, but it seemed so obvious that people made up other theories in the meantime because it couldn’t be THAT obvious, right?

@@jorgitosilva i like obito a lot and the character of obito masquerading as Madara, so i dont mind it, but yeah it was way too obvious They teased it for too long that it was so obvious. I dont mind the twist, but the way they wrote it was obvious. They placed the Kakashi Gaiden right before tobi appeared, they showed Kakashi lookin into Obito’s sharingan during the Sasuke-Itachi arc, Obito says ‘Kakashi’s Mangekyo won’t work on him’ (so obvious), etc.

Tobi being Obito was even more obvious in the manga. Right after Kakashi Gaiden, a panel of Tobi was immediately shown. For the longest time, the fandom refused to believe it, and would come up with a ton of crazy theories. Even absurd ones like evil Naruto from the future.

Adonis gave a pretty good argument for it being obvious in the anime, too. In the anime, the kakashi gaiden adaptation comes right before the reveal that Tobi's an Uchiha.

That feeling Devi describes of not wanting to believe it's Obito when it becomes increasingly obvious that it is because of what he means to you is good writing from the series, I think, because it's the exact same feeling Kakashi has. Kakashi pieces it together as soon as Tobi reveals he got his Sharingan from the battle of Kanabi Bridge, but wants DESPERATELY not to believe it.

What the all knowing say about sharingan is not related Obito it's related to Madara. Obito became a villain because his love died and Madara offered him a way out from his misery , by creating a fantasy world where everybody is alive and happy. So obito agreed to help him. The all knowing explain how a person like Madara comes about.

Your theory was correct about Obito’s Mangekyo abilities. Obito has close range Kamui and Kakashi’s eye has long range Kamui. His eyes are strong even while separated, but as Itachi has stated in the past: together they could be more… If he never gave his left eye away, Obito would have won the war.

well, kinda, on one hand, kakashi would be 100% dead without the sharingan. rin would probably explode inside the village as well, taking out many people. without kakashi, naruto might've not even become a genin, and if he did, its also possible that he would've died in one of the missions, specially if they got the first "real" mission.

zetsu are made out of hashirama cells so obito having hashirama cells could take an arm from a zetsu and put it on his own. obito has said and shown multiple times that he had hashirama cells, also obito was 14-15 when he was fighting minato and took nine tails

I remember that theory was a hot topic between a friend of mine and I back in middle school. We both believed it couldn't be Obito because it would've been too simple (or so we thought). So we came up with our own theories: he thought it was Sasuke's dad and I thought it was Izuna (Madara's brother). I still remember how surprised we were when the chapter was released lol, we were both overthinking it.

I always like to see how long it takes some people realize that Tobi was Obito. Some figure it out perty fast because the Kakashi Gaiden episodes comes out around the same time we see Tobi's sharingan & we first see him teleport by swirling away the same Kakashi's mangeyko sharingan does.

As a manga reader back then it was harder for me because the Kakashi gaiden was put in right after part one Naruto ended and before shippuden started in the manga
