1994 k2500 suburban. I had running lights but no headlights. The problem was the dimmer switch under the dash, attached to the steering column.

Thanks for this. Simple and to the point. Headlights are back.

Right on!!!! Yeah mine went out on a 6 hour drive back home at night from bird hunting ! Sucked! Glad it helped! I get tired of dudes videos talking about their life problems! Get to the point!

Thanks for this video, it gave me some good tips for when I attempt this, those two bolt/nut holding the switch on looked hard to get to. I've gotta to replace this switch on my 89 k1500. My high beams are working but the switch won't click over to give me low beams unless I hold in on the turn signal stalk.

Update: If that high beam rod falls out, don't lose hope; after about 15 minutes of trial and error (mainly error), I was able to get the rod mated with the lever. The whole thing is back together. Follow the advice given to tape it to the steering column.

I replaced the headlight switch because the dash light dimmer portion of the switch had failed and I had no dash lights. When I plugged in the new switch, the red wire (power) slipped out of the connector and made intermittent contact with the switch. Drove me crazy for a month before figuring it out.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I have nearly the same issue and it is still ongoing after replacing both switches.and if you dont mindme asking, what did you do cut it of and replace it like he did here?

Hi, thank you for your video, my Truck's lights was working the one day, two days later when I got into her, the running lights was working, but like you, no headlights, nor high beams. I ordered a headlight switch, thinking it to be the problem... But not. I'll order a dimmer switch and replace it.... Hopefully it works....

@@turq57nomad Hi, when I opened up, I found that my Truck had exactly the same issue, burned wires and switch damaged... I repaired the wiring and replaced the switch... Now working again... Again, thanks for the video 😉👍

Hell ya! Gotta keep these OBS Chevys on the road! Mine went out and I smelled burning wires on a 6 hour drive at night. I pulled over and used my LED light bar and would turn it off for incoming traffic. Shitty night!

@@turq57nomad crazy 🤪... I'm actually from South Africa and staying now in Germany.... I bought the Truck'n magazine Back in 92 with these Trucks and Belltech... But these Trucks were never in South Africa... So, when I got to Germany, I got the opportunity to buy one.... I love her, but at this stage I'm just doing repairs... She was neglected.... There are still people out there without respect for vehicles.... I wish you a lot of fun with your OBS!

Thanks for the video, my dimmer switch was also burned up. On the pigtail is that part # PT387 for AC Delco? I already replaced the Dimmer Switch.

My switch is fine, but when I removed the ignition switch, which is under the high beam switch, the high beam rod fell out.

How to do you get a u-joint connected on all 4 sides on without air being compressed in it? I have a 94 chevy Cheyenne and trying to get my 2 u-joints and I have the drive shaft out already and have the rear I-joint connected perfectly but the side that slides into the transmission one of the caps won’t go on all the way and I believe that there is air compressed inside of it and I have the normal tools to work on it together, I have a hammer and metal rod. How can I get the side that won’t go down all the way to be able to go down all that way?

Does anyone know if this will be the same for a 1998? This truck looks to be pre 1997.

Anyone know why it keeps happening because I have replaced switches yearly why does the wiring get so hot? I even installed a relay behind the headlight switch and it eventually got hot and the wires melted
