93 Chevy C2500 Pickup: My dash lights would work sometimes and eventually stopped all together. Come to find out the running lights weren’t working either but the headlights and brakes were working fine. When I googled “dash and running lights not working” your video came up. THANK GOODNESS! I thought maybe it was a fuse but after watching your video I thought for $25 I would give it shot…life saver! Easy to follow and it worked!!! One less item on the honey-do list! My husband was stoked :)

most of my 91's interior is hot glued together. I thought my issue would be this switch but it ended up being a bad ground next to the OBD port.. no running lights, horn, dash lights or plate lights. thanks for the video

@@alexyost3241 I just went to the metal obd port bracket with the wire. the other issue i had was a blown lamp fuse causing all this not to work also including the dash lights. there is a connector that was melted with a bunch of hots behind the ash tray / ac controller area and I had to cut the connector out and splice them back together. I went and bought a power probe it saved me alot of time tracing the whole harness out just to end up behind the dash.

I'll test this after work. I have the same issue. I'll have to double check fuses too. Nothing comes on. Prior the dimmer switch didn't adjust anything which was fine. But then out of nowhere everything stopped. Including the beep for having the lights on when ignition off. But the beep does chime briefly for seat belt. Hopefully it's just that ground and possibly fuse. Not a mess of hot wires behind the climate controls.

Only thing I can think of trying is to swap the entire bulb holder and a known good bulb into the spot where the bulb won't light. If it still won't light than the trace on it might be bad. Those bulb holders and point where they contact the printer circuit are kind of finicky. I would also see if there is a good ground and power on the one that won't light. good luck!

I have a 1988 Siverado. What is the OBD port, do I have one ?I vaguely remember having a tailight issue (only one tailight) years ago, and it was something to do with a ground for one tailight. Now, neither taillight works (brake lights are ok), and dash lights don't work. I'm not sure if I should try to check tailight grounds, or R and R the headlight switch. I love this old truck, but I'm so tired of piddling little problems.... help
@mikesworld60 Жыл бұрын
You may check your bulbs and grounds and see if your front running lights are also out. Sounds like it might be your switch, but hard to tell from here. You could take the switch out and look at the plug contacts to see if they got hot. I also could get mine to work by wiggling the switch around and turning it off and on many times and sometimes they would come on. Sounds like it is at least a problem with the switch or wiring to the switch.

Do I need to replace my switch? Because the little wheel turns on the light on my floor board but not my dash lights I was thinking the bulb was bad but wanted to make sure
@mikesworld603 жыл бұрын
When you say the bulb might be bad are you referring to the dash lights. There are multiple bulbs in the dash so they would all have to be burnt out. I think it is more likely the top part of the switch that supplies power to the dash lights may be bad. That was the case when my dash lights would not come on. It was the top part of the switch that was bad but I also had no exterior running lights with my problem. The dimmer wheel is independent of your problem. The only way to really troubleshoot it is with a wire diagram of the dash lights and see if your getting power to them when the switch is turned on.

So.. My running lights and headlights work. Interior lights on the ceiling work as well. All my indicators and warning lights on the dash work, but all dimmable lights do not. Also my radio display cuts out when i turn on my headlights. Could this be related to the switch and/or ground cables being bad?

Sounds like what I had when my top part of the headlight switch went bad. The top part is for the dash lights and the running lights. If I turned the top switch on and off and wiggled it the dash lights would eventually come on. That is why I changed the whole switch assy. There were burnt contacts on the back of the switch. I would take the switch out and check it out or just replace it.

So, if the radio is stock and doesn't work but has some lights and the interior lights are out. I would check fuses and just because a fuse is good maybe it is not making good contact where the fuse plugs in. The dimmer knob controls the interior lights and instrument lights and radio illumination lights.

Did you pop your fuse at all?
@mikesworld602 жыл бұрын
No, Fuse was fine. Switch just had bad contacts inside. The connections in the plug where it plugs in to switch can also be damaged and have bad contact or shorting together there. You can usually see that because the plug looks like it is getting hot and discolored. If you have a fuse blowing, then you have a short to ground somewhere causing that which is even possible inside the switch itself. If you unplug the switch and the fuse still blows then you have a short in the wires going from the fuse to the plug that plugs into the switch assembly.
