I don't know why, but I always worry about Bruce and substance use, which is ridiculous because I've never met the man. I realize now that it's because I can see myself in his struggles, which again is silly because I don't actually know his struggles, it's all just my perception that comes from my experience at compromising my passions, my health and my life because of substance use. I'm mostly clean now and work as a social worker. ALL that being said, I hope Bruce is doing great. Much love.

this might be my favorite one yet! such a great vibe between these two. occy is always so warm and funny, but there was a great chemistry on this one that made it even better than some others- the obvious fun they've had and that they care about each other. for me, whether he wins or loses, there is something iconic about bruce. just seeing him paddling out feels special. great job mr. occcy--keep 'em coming.

I remember in 2003 at Pipe asking Bruce to sign the photo of him flipping the bird while in a Teahupo'o barrel. I ripped the 2-page photo out of a surfing magazine and had it on my garage wall with my surfing and boating gear. I put it back up when I got home. That is still one of my favorite surfing photos ever.

Not many sports can say there's such true friendship outside the competition while in the competing side the rivalry can be fierceful at the same time that's something really special about surfing indeed

hope bruce does his own doc on his brother. he was there long before anyone else came into andy's life. nobody knew him like bruce. w/ having to respect the thoughts/feelings of others, you can tell he was having to somewhat censor/limit himself in kbg. andy was so fucking gnarly. he'd never want to have his life story sugar-coated.
