I didn't see any other response to your wood sanding question so I thought I would share my opinion. First of all you do great work, and I applaud your ambition to expand your art business. Keep it up! If the slab is actually primavera, then it is reasonably soft (about 1/2 the hardness of hard maple). Since you are dealing with a wood slab, it is possible, although unlikely, that the wood was treated with something to minimize cracking. It is hard to tell without actually examining the wood. However, the most likely scenario is that you are just dealing with end grain, which is much harder and more random than the length wise grain of the tree. While sanding it is often necessary to raise the grain with a little bit of water. A spray bottle and clean towel to wipe off the excess works great. Wait a minute or two for the water to evaporate and resume sanding. Repeat as needed. When dealing with end grain, sanding can often compact the wood, resulting in the polishing effect you described. Raising the grain with water will help minimize this issue. It is also best to go form coarse to fine grain sandpaper rather than going back and forth. Start with 60 or 80 grit to get most of the milling marks, then move up to 100, 150 and 220. The goal is to remove all of the previous coarse grit sanding marks before moving on to the next finer grit. You can also try a card scraper to remove the mill marks quickly before sanding. Best of luck on your next slab.

The ending with the goofball. My favorite! You are such a hard worker and it truly shows. You put so much love into your work. I also love that you show the little things that stir up the process and how you go about fixing them! You do a fantastic job, you should be so proud!

Hey Diana, With regard to sanding the wood; it might be worthwhile finding a lumber yard or woodworker near you who has an industrial size belt sander/planer. The one I am thinking of allows you set the size the piece by width to remove the correct amount, then you 'post' the wood through the machine like a letter, then flip it to sand the other side. Once you are happy any minor modifications you can do yourself at home, 8 hours sanding is a lot (it's noisy, labour intensive plus with Hand-arm vibration from the use of hand-held power tools over time, can cause significant ill health (painful and disabling disorders of the blood vessels, nerves and joints) I have a health and safety background in the UK so just thinking of your safety. .........just an idea, and a possible collaboration with a local business/ tradesman. Stay Safe as Always ☮🕊 🧡

Take your next Round or slab t a wood shop and have the run it through the big roller sander...takes like 5mins, comes out perfectly flat. Shops also have loads of wood pieces for purchase that they will sand as a purchase package.

Love this Diana!! Lovely to see you back … you’ve been very busy indeed!!! Please can you tell me how you get such defined and thick fronts of your waves?? When I try these they seem to just blow out as I’m worried about leaving it for too long in the pots … thanks in advance. Martin 🙏🏻

Beautiful art, wonderful video!! My personal recommendation, when it comes to cutting off drips etc., is to use a multitool like Fein Multi Master or similar. Due to the fact, that it uses a vibration movement to cut, you can work very closely and exact, while having waaaay less dust! Also using way less materials (sandpaper etc.). Best wishes!!

Hi@@diankapours6214, to remove all the saw marks, I probably would have started with a belt sander with 60 grit sandpaper. I have the same palm sander as you were using. It works better if you connect a vacuum to it. I would also use 3M sandpaper. It seems to be some of the best out there. Hooking up a shop vacuum to the sander helps keep the sanding pad clear of dust and let's it works faster. Once the saw marks are gone you can move up the sandpaper from 80 to 120 and so on, depending on how smooth you want it. I would be curious to know how smooth you would want it for the epoxy to adhere to it. Hope this helped.

@@berniebuchholz6450 Ah, a belt sander would have definitely been a much better way to start. And of course, the vacuum tip as well. Thank you so much for the advice!!

There might be someone who makes it somewhere but not that I know of an since you have all the other color an paint stuff I feel like someone should make clear primer or for all I know it's not possible to do with primer lol.
