I love the visual symbolism in this scene. Willy Bank is illuminated by red light while Danny Ocean is lit more normally, establishing that Bank is financially ruined, or “in the red.” When Bank looks up to see the helicopter taking away his Five Diamond Awards and says, “my diamonds,” his face is practically bathed in red.

Of all three movies this is the one I don't watch as often but the interactions between Al Pacino and George Clooney carried the movie. Watching Willy Bank lose everything was really satisfying.

I like it how this wasn’t about making money or settling a debt, it was about getting revenge for one of their friends.

"My diamonds..." A small line, but it's such a contrast to how he delivered his line just a couple minutes ago. In the beginning, his voice was low, tough-sounding and menacing, threatening Danny...then Danny beat him down to a defeated child. Then he looks up and his voice is surprised and slightly higher-pitched...he knew he was had. He did it: Danny broke Bank.

The diamond scene always reminds me of Linus' comment of 'a smash and grab job' in 11. He just had to wait 2 movies to get his wish.

The only part of this movie that didn't make sense was how no one could get into the room with the diamonds , like they broke into Terry's vault , the french guy literally climbed into the museum with no rope and dodged a laser field , they broke into that one guys house but somehow this one room with glass windows guarded by a 50 year old woman was the impossible job ? Like they even showed us the cleaning lady you're telling me rusty couldn't get her to let them in ?

Hello. My name is Tony and I ruin movies. ESPECIALLY the ones I love. And not even this classic is spared by pedantic rants. Lets jump in. 1) Pointless "Heist". Okay, No. Bank is not losing "half a billion". Not even close. First of all, Vegas depends on the gambling addict. So the very moment the quake stopped, his guests are pouring back in the door. Second, even if they don't- they will return within a day at the most. And the majority will simply gamble away their winnings, just a few hours later. There is no way to cash out those chips anywhere else, so they will have to come back. So Clooney can save his smug "gotcha" grin. He went through all of that shit just for Bank to get his money, just a little slower. 2) The 5 Diamond award- Once again, he will clearly not get it right now because of the myriad of issues experienced by the under cover "agent", but this would merely delay the process. He would be able to be evaluated again in the not-too-distant future. It's not "one and done" with these fancy rating systems. 3) Bank is Right- The people "highly invested in his survival" would absolutely intervene. The Casino business is one of the shadiest in history. And there is no loyalty to anything except $$$. Nobody is going to pass up money just because they like someone better. Yes, relationships do count for something, but not everything. If Bank was paying enough, Danny is DED by morning. 4) Helicopter- Vegas is some of the most tightly controlled airspace in the world. There is no way these guys are able to procure a helicopter, especially since we all saw that they were working on EXTREMELY limited budget and had to get Benedict to finance the drilling rig. And even if they did, they are not getting permits and flight plans filed with the FAA, especially not during one of the busiest nights of the year. Even if they have an actual FBI agent, he has no authority over that issue. They are getting ordered down, other aircraft would be scrambled to investigate, and they are taken in to custody upon landing. Then they have to account for the explosion on the roof and the presence of stolen property. In short, Bank is going to be put through some pretty minor inconveniences, but little will come of it. Thats it for now. And yes, I DO have too much time on my hands.
