In this Cake Decorating Tutorials. I show you how I made this Ultra Modern Multi Colored FALL inspired Paneled Cake! I just love how the colors seem to have a wave effect to them without the colored blending too much into each other. The added touch of silver Albin the lines, I feel just brought it up a notch but is not at all necessary. this style could be done in any color combinations you chose! o can also see it in pastels with rose gold, hmmm.... Modern and beautiful! I have two construction questions. When you are filling and icing your tiers, it looks like they’re sitting on a larger board, but are they actually on a board the same size as the cake and, then, somehow secured to the larger board? Then, when you’re ready to assemble the tiers, are you moving them to the actual board or stand that the cake will set on, still on the board that is the same size as the cake) Does that make sense? My other question is about how you cut the straws for support. I’ve seen you do it two different ways and I’m feeling unsure about it. One way....insert one straw ( in the middle of the tier?) and then cut all the other straws the same length. Second way....insert all the straws, pull each one up and cut each one where the buttercream line is. I’m confused about which way to do it...which way is more apt to give you a level cake. Please forgive all the questions I ask all the time. I’ve only done a tiered cake once so far (a long time ago), but have recently been getting orders that involve tiers. I’m a bit scared! 😬

Oh I was there before too, so I get it. I need to do a video on just this topic;) So yes I fill and crumb coat on a board the same size as the cake. And then I trim it down if the board sticks out further then the cake. For the final coats, I move it to another board , stuck with a rolled up peice of tape to secure it. This board is bigger then the cake. Like if you are doing a 6" cake, put it on at least an 8" board. You can use the cardboard rounds but I like to use the plastic reusable ones from Hobby Lobby. I have had them for years and it is a $ saver. If you do the final coat this way, you will not see the cardboard round under the cake. But always let it firm up in the fridge or freeze before moving it to the final presentation board, drum or whatever you like to use. And remember to check if the tape is still under the board on you upper tiers. I like to do the pull the straws up and cut method mostly just on 2 tiers. Sometimes they are not exactly even on accident but you don't really notice it so much on 2 tiers. For the taller cakes I do like to make sure all the straws are exactly the same height before I put them in as a safety measure. You will see if they are not level on a taller cake much more. Did I cover it and make sense??
