Nice update and really nice looking 3rd century Romans. When I lived in Canada, I used to prime in the garage in winter. I had to time it, but it worked out well. Looking forward to the cav!

The big shields are the business. Based on archaeological finds at Dura Europas as you say and logical too: If you are facing a lot of missile troops, as you would be in Syria, you want a big shield to hide behind.

I see you are a man of culture as well! Yeah I liked the war games Atlantic kit for the most part, I think the shields are great

I think that Germanic Roman auxiliary is based on Ballista the hero in the warriors of Rome novels. I have seen some simple Late Roman shield designs where there is just a mythical animal / star sign on the top of the shield.
@TriariusWarGaming Жыл бұрын
Yes the figure is Ballista! Yeah the late Roman shield designs are interesting, wish there were more transfers with the mythical scenes etc rather than just the Notitia dignita designs

The later Romans are an interesting choice for wargaming, I didn’t know the Romans used large round shields like that
@TriariusWarGaming Жыл бұрын
The 3rd century is actually super fascinating, you have lots of transitions going on, both these large oval shields and rectangular shields are both used. The weapons and armor are at their most ornate in this period, almost kind of Warhammer 40k high gothic in appearance. Then in the 4th century it all dulls down.

I'm now a full on convert to the 40 figure barbarian war band unit
@rangerminiaturesandgaming3647 Жыл бұрын
@@TriariusWarGaming I agree all my Gauls and germans are 40 man war bands. Trying to decide if I should do 40 or 48 man pike blocks.

@@rangerminiaturesandgaming3647 That would be awesome, you thinking 8X6?
@rangerminiaturesandgaming3647 Жыл бұрын
@@TriariusWarGaming yeah 8x6 or 8x5, at this point leaning towards 8x5
