Octopus vs Moray Eel in Veliganu North: Part Two

Found on Veligandu North at night. A octopus trying to flee the arriving divers, rushing in to close to a moray eel. This one, not to pleased went straight in for the attack.

They do not play and have a very vicious bite with large size hypo needle teeth pointing inward. I ought to know because i got bit by one. It was my fault with a 4' Green Moray i bought when it was only 18". They do not posess very great eye sight at a slight distance. My attention was distracted to my daughter at night after a long day while hand feeding it Very large white shrimp and it came up to feed mislicked and grapped my middle finger and of course chomped down. It rapidly got my attention needless to say and i instinctively yanked my hand up and out of the tank almost pulling him out all together. Of course he was still attached but let go pretty quick. Before he hit the saltwater the tank was full of blood and i had a very sore finger for a couple of days. Looking back it would have been a hilarious video but i wasn't amused at the time. Moral of that story is pay attention and you get hurt less. Lol. When i moved with the family from Fla. to N.C. it was to the point where i had to like buy a 200 gal tank and set up and i wasn't sure i could get him safely there so i ended up letting him go on the 2nd reef line out scuba diving at Vero beach after acclimating him to the water and temperature. Watched him swim away like an old pro. His name went from Mr. Green Jeans to " Mr. CHOMPERS " after that learning experience...😆

Same exact thing happened to me with a very large snowflake moray I owned for 10 years. 32" -- biggest one I've ever seen. He was very tame & pettable but got too excited at feeding time. Clamped down on my finger once when he missed the food. Snowflakes have mostly molars for eating crustaceans, as opposed to the fangs the fish-eaters have. He cracked my fingernail all the way down! I thought he broke my finger at first - unreal biting power. That was the last time I ever hand-fed him.

octopus wouldn't have been heading in that direction if it wasn't for the diver.. can't call this Mother Nature or survival of the fittest.. Human interaction at its finest
