The kids are a national treasure. The woman is cool. I like her. She's intelligent, educated, articulate, focused and has done an awesome thing. She and her kids will be with us for a long time.

What blows me away is that she got a worker's comp settlement for a terrible back injury about 10 years ago and she goes off and has all these babies--like the worst thing for a back--during the pregnancy and after!

I came from a family of 16, we weren't born at the same time but my family is wealthy. owning two gas stations and a small construction business. my mom and dad came to american with two suitcases and about $400 dollars with 10 kids. it's amazing how far someone can get if they try. and no im not a Mexican I'm German....

It's really easy to judge this woman, really easy however she is a Mother to 14 children that is now her "job" and she has many, many challenges before her. There is a reason why all of those babies survived.

Last I heard she was on Dr.Phil and got handed stuff free on a silver platter,her father is buying her a 600,000 dollar home, she's getting FREE child assistance from angels in waiting,and NOW, she has a web site asking for donations from people to help her raise these kids. What they don't tell you in the interview is that Proctor and Gamble (makers of Pampers and Luvs diapers) have been getting thousands of emails and letters saying if they donate just one diaper to this lady they will boycott their products. Proctor and Gamble did say last week that they will donate one case of diapers to her and give her discount coupons to buy more...but that Proctor and Gamble will NOT support her.

I think the lack of a partner-whether it be male or female says alot to me. Many of the single moms (my mom included) I know didnt become single moms because they wanted to. Marraiges didnt work out, their spouse died or some other cause. If she has no partner, then what is she going to do not only while rearing the children, but after they are grown? If she is doing this out of loneliness, then how come she couldnt find a partner instead of having more children? Something isnt right there.

PPLS! Stop hating her. Shes only doing what she can right now to feed her children and take care of them. She only sleeps about 3 hours at one night. That just shows how busy she is with these kids. I would run away if i was in her position, but shes keeping up.

I do understand about feeling lonely and isolated as an only child since I am one as well. I always wanted siblings but it never happened. Part of me is against her but the other part is with her on this. In other words, I will not judge her.

I know I agree with you. She said she will be able to afford them when she's done with her school. I have a BA in Sociology and I can tell you right now, she has issues. That is the most selfish thing in the world to have a lot of kids knowing you can't take care of them.

Where I'm from child care professionals are limited to a ratio of 1:6. That means only six children allowed per one adult, legally . So basically, for this mother to leave the house would require three people to clock in. No one is going to make enough money in child psych for this to be economically viable.

I, personally, don't think it's coming down to us judging her. I think everybody's mad and upset about the fact that she had all these kids without thinking ,first, and didn't plan ahead BEFORE she had her litter!

I think having four kids is a pretty big family. If I had to go through the pain of childbirth, I'd ditch the whole "big family" plan at least by the fifth.

Oh and there is absolutely nothing wrong in choosing to be a single mother. In fact, I plan on being a single mother if I decide to have kids, but I'm going to wait until I am able to support them and myself comfortably. XOXO ;-P

Suleman has been supporting her six other children with $490 a month in food stamps and receives Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters that could total $2,379 a month. This is complete abuse of the system. I feel sorry for couples that want to have children but cant afford it because they have to pay for hers in extra taxes.

why isn't anyone criticizing that Dugger family that has 18 kids, that is absolutely ridiculous. and they get a tv show on top of it so basically they are getting praised, but this woman is getting hassled because she's a single mom, so what let her do what she wants. If she thought her childhood was so dysfunctional, why is she STILL living with her parents and letting them help raise her 14 kids? She admits to depression and back pain so severe she is often unable to get out of bed to care for her children. Why wasn't she required to undergo some type of mental health screening before being allowed to get in vitro for all these children?This is a disgrace. I pray for the safety and welfare of the kids.

I think people who want to have children need to have their priorities in order and figure out if they can afford children FIRST, before ever bringing children into this world...especially in this day and age!

@ChocolateRabbitEars Well you can control the number on children you have by not implanting 6 embryos, though that is partly her doctor's fault, as she apparently insisted on having them implanted but he should have either convinced her or refused to do the procedure. Though I can only entirely agree with you on the insults part. Her choices are none of our business and though we don't agree with them we can only respect them and hope all of her children will grow up happily and healthily.

Well, I can understand about folk being angry, but let's be real: We promote having babies in this society. Its a hobby to have babies now. I can't take the side of all of those who are mad @ octomom for this, when some of them are the main ones pressuring their children to become parents one day.

Yes I would agree, but my worry goes towards the children. They are being placed in a situation that could possibly hurt them emotionally, psycholgically, and even physically (as in their health)

Fourteen children....thats incredible...and it would be a life-dominating task for a married couple. Considering this woman is a single mother with no job, I'm totally bewildered as to how she will be able to care for these kids. But nonetheless, I wish her luck.

They showed photos of her in her 20s on Dateline and she was really pretty. Not so much now with the obvious plastic surgery, which she has denied having. How could anybody say she planned this?? As a Roman Catholic a good number of us claim to be Catholics just because we were baptized in the church. Yet they (myself included) rarely go to church, sin, etc.

I have been to several videos on this topic and read many of the comments. Its amazing how most of the blistering, derogatory commentaries are coming from obvioulsy uneducated people who for some uncanny reason feel that they will personally be held responsible for the financial well being of this mother and her children.

Why in the world have we heard NOT ONE WORD about the irresponsible doctor that did this procedure on this obviously unstable woman?I think a judge should make that dr take full custody of the babies.The dr didnt mind taking her $ for this.He should have to raise these babies! This would also send a message to these greedy drs that do these things!

Fertility centers are not supposed to do what her doctor did. There are strict guidelines in place that fertility clinics are to follow when it comes to placing embryos. The woman's age determines how many embryos are placed. The doctor who placed all six should have his license taken away and he needs to be fined and prevented from ever practicing again. He has helped her cause a lot of damage to her own children.

Seriously, how can you give of yourself to 14 kids? This is just crazy....how irresponsible of the doctor to continue implanting embryos! These poor kids will never have a "normal" life.

We live in a society of double standards. Folk complain about people who have babies as a hobby, then they complain about those who don't want children. the crazy thing about this story is that yes other women have babies and don't work and are single but THIS woman in particular INTENTIONALLY went out there and got this done and paid all this money to purposely have MORE kids

i watched her on dr.phil today... it was a good interview for her image, i think. the pregnancy was a huge mistake on her part... one of many. But surely no one can say she INTENDED to have octuplets. as she said in the interview "that would be insane!" i agree. their are some aspects of this she had no control over, and i think the doc. (who is supposed to know better) should be held responsible for much of this mess.

I know this may be an unconventional answer, but trust God. Several years ago, I lost everything, including my entire family, but a brother. Last year, I lost several jobs. Place your trust in Him, praise Him and watch Him bring you through.

I'm not saying I think what she did is right, or that I agree with it at all...but she does seem to genuinely love and want her children. There are parents with one kid who beat them, torture them...whatever can be said about her, she at least has that most basic principal of being a parent, that a lot of people with all the money & resources in the world do not have.

She states that she gives herself to her children and will provide for them, however when one went missing, she stated several times "I'm going to kill myself", in front of those children. She also, wants to be a counselor? The income she *could* make wouldn't even pay for babysitting. What is this woman thinking!

Wether or not someone has a good source of income, I think having more than two kids is in itself irresponsible and selfish. People should just be happy with one child not eight.

Without a doubt, the questioning of Ms. Suleman's decisions may be questionable. In these troubled times, I like any other tax paying citizen have concerns, but runaway single parenthood in general will cost us far more than Ms. Suleyman alone. You can't demolish a building by taking a brick of of it.
