Oculus Link troubleshooting and some useful tips

In this video, I go over Oculus Link troubleshooting and a couple of tips and tricks. So far I've only run into a handful of Oculus Link problems and they're not hard to fix. If you have problems with the Oculus Quest Link not working and it wasn't covered in the vid let me know in the comments below.

A bad cable is most likely the issue with Oculus Link no Audio problems. Be sure to use a good cable!

so basically I have an issue where It worked yesterday and it says it's active and connected but red in the oculus pc client saying to try a different USB 3.0 port which I've tried all of them... it just stopped recognizing my pc... I'm beyond frustrated so ur help would be incredibly appreciated!

Oh my god, I am dying. BLACK SCREEN. THREE DOTS. wanna know what I have tried doing? 1. deleting old AMD drivers 2. updating all USB drivers 3. checking if my cable is the problem (IT ISN'T) 4. Disabled Nvidia overlay 5. Turned off PTC 6. Reinstall Oculus App 7. Gotten rid of ALL side loaded content 8. plugged into different usb slots on my pc 9. Making sure my computer has access to the files on my Quest 10. frikkin factory reset my Quest 11. Double checked all previous attempts 12. Re-setup my quest in the app 13. Checking if my height was just wrong (IT ISN'T) 14. Checking if my GPU was supported (GTX 1070 TI and YES IT IS) 15. Updated all software on Quest and Oculus App 16. a handful of other similar tactics that didn't work _HELP ME_ *_IT HAS BEEN A MONTH NOW!! I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT_*

@@tycotech yeah, i just got the ankler cable and now its going black after a few good tries of gameplay... not its just black but i can still see my guardian when i reach the limit... and those stupid dots... i've done multiple restarts of both my quest and my pc so idk

Just like to say thanks for your tips, I just upgraded to the quest from the rift and had the dots on the loading screen issue and rebooting the quest fix it as you said. Many thanks, much appreciated!

It says "General device problem" and it's connected but it keeps disconnecting and when it does work it will just freeze edit : the cord was cheaply made

I am having issues trying to play steamVR games using oculus link, specifically Skyrim VR. The oculus rift home environment works fine and I have all green across the board when looking at my connection from the oculus software. However, when I try to use Steam VR I get booted back to the quest environment extremely often, sometimes every couple seconds. Have you seen this or maybe have an idea of what could be going wrong? Thank you!

I had an issue where everything was extremely laggy and choppy. I realized my battery settings was set where I wasn't at maximum performance levels for my laptop. I set it to Max performance and I had zero lag

Rift home just doesn't show up in headset. I open the link in headset from settings and it just gives me black screen and then it takes me to the quest home and just does not work. :(

I need some help! When I use oculus link and lauch into steam or steam game, I sometimes get like this wierd thing where it starts kinda hopping. Please help me fix this (I have tried debug tool and task manager.)

Hi, my problem is a performance loss, my games run at 20-30 fps. I switched to Questo from Rift S for my IPD distance but now I had a huge loss in performance: low fps, stuttering, strange objects edges when shakind a weapon or something right in front of my face in a game (it didn't happen with rift S) and it is super-frustrating. I have an RTX 2080ti (I plugged in the cable directly in the 3.1port GPU too) so I don't feel like my PC can't play games well with this headset. I tried changing the cable, disabling onboard graphics, re-pairing the quest but nothing. I really don't know if the link feature sucks or I did something wrong

I had the dot problem and had to disable my vega 10. Then no sound i updated to the beta program then turned it off. After it removes the update u can turn sound to 100% in the rift app then sound works

It means your pc might not meet Rift's minimum requirements, at least that's what it meant for me.

for me ill go into my quest and hit enable link, and itll send me to my home , however, if i click show virtual desktop it immediate freezes up and im forced to restart my quest. Any tips on how to fix this?

So I had oculus link for around a year now and I was looking forward for a new cable since my old one was very annoying. So I decided to get the kiwi link cable. Once i got this packages, I loaded up oculus link and for some reason it doesn’t work? I made sure to see if it was actually broken by using my other oculus link cable and it didn’t load. I was wondering if there is any fix for this as soon as possible.

when installing my quest to my pc first time it advanced a little after 20 minutes later I quit windows does not announce when I plug it in but it switched audio to the quest that it (its prob my cable but idk dont wanna unload a hundred bucks on a cable please help thnx

I encountered a problem in Bigscreen. I couldn't get audio to come from the Quest in the app. It worked for a while and then dropped out. I didn't see Rift headset option in the audio device selection. When I plug in an actual Rift S, the device shows up in the audio selection options. I figure this is due to the beta nature of Link and Bigsreen.

I found a problem that occurred with my audio with a fix. If your quest is not emitting audio turn it all the way up on windows and it should randomly work again. Anything under 100 and the audio cuts out for me. If this fixes anyone else’s issue let me know 👍

this is probably the most unprofessional help ever cause i know nothing about cables and stuff, but i had the same issue today (just bought the recommended anker cable) and goes to black screen and doesnt respond. anyways i put the cable in a different usb port and it works fine now. sorry if this doesnt help you but nothing else worked for me!

Go to - Run - %appdata% - locate oculus - open setup - select uninstall - do all of this again but this time delete the oculus folder - install it again on the site. You wont need to pair your headset again, to acess run, press WIN + R

I have a problem that when I load up Oculus Link, it runs for a few seconds, I look around and then it freezes up and I have to quit back to the Quest Home Screen... then it will disconnect every now and then from the Oculus PC App (Never disconnects when connected to side quest via cable). This is the second device Ive had and getting the same issue. My PC is VR ready!

At the smallest touch or wrong movement of the cord, it either disconnects, or sends me back to the enable oculus link notification

I'm using the recommended Anker powerline, and when I connect it I click deny data transfer like the website says, but then the PC app just keeps loading or it tells me my cable isn't compatible, but it has to be compatible since it's listen on their website, I feel really scammed, please help

i have exactly the same issue. Deny Data, and then nothing at all. No option to enable Oculus Link from the Quest2, only Air Link. PC responds when the Oculus is pugged in, but Oculus app will not find it at all.

If there an issue with the "Official" Oculus Link cable. Ensure you refresh the developer mode by turning it off then back on. I had the problem that the PC would recognize the Quest but the Quest did not detect the PC. Support took me through the whole reinstall process, which made me lose all game progress. Don't be like me. Turn off developer mode and back on would have fixed it.

Just got the official cable. The game will crash at random and the headset will stop responding. The game still runs on pc. Also it will sometimes disconnect, then ask to connect again. It’s very annoying and has gotten me killed several times in the games. The 15 dollar cord they recommended never did this. 80 dollars now it’s crashing. WTH?

I have a problem with my link. I'm able to have it connect to my pc but then I get the 3 dots and then just a black screen. And I also get a notification on my pc saying "Hardware notification. Oculus isnt working correctly" When I try to launch War Thunder VR I can see on my pc that its tracking my head movements but on my oculus quest it's still black screen. On my Quest I sometimes also get "com.oculus.os.vrmtpapp has stopped" I managed to fix the problem. You just need to go and turn off Nvidia Overlay inside of GeForce Experience. Even though I don't have audio probably because of my cable, it still works fine.

Do you know if Nvidia Overlay exists without GeForce Experience? I'm super new to the whole "owning a graphics card" thing... I think I have the same problem but I didn't install anything related to Nvidia manually...

If it came with your PC it might be there. Right click on your desktop screen and click Nvidia settings if it's an option and check.

@@tycotech I built my PC, when I right-click on the desktop I see "NVIDIA Control Panel." I also just installed Ge Force Experience to see if disabling it would do anything and nothing changed. When I try to connect my Quest, I sometimes get the loading dots but then it goes to a black screen for a bit then it goes back to the settings menu in the Quest. When I look at the Oculus app on my PC while I try to connect it, it says that I have to update the software and there's a red "X" next to the Quest in the devices tab but if I click on the notification to update the software it says that everything is up to date and it goes back to normal with a green checkmark next to the Quest after a short time... I might need to update my Quest but I have the finger tracking update and the link came out before the finger tracking... I restarted my PC to see if anything changed and nothing changed...

I have an oculus quest and a link cable, I connect it to a USB 3 cable in my PC but nothing happens, when I try to enable oculus link on the quest it just says that it can't find my PC, when I try to connect my headset to the oculus app it's basically ignoring the headset and nothing happens, does anyone know how to fix this?

SamBruh If I just says it’s connected but doesn’t show that the usb 3 is connected, you’re using a charging port, not a usb 3 port.

Very strange. I haven't had any issues with it up to this point. But it keeps telling me in my headset that usb is not connected. I have the oculus app running, and it says my device is not connected. I try to set up Oculus Link again, and I am met with a spinning white circle on the page where it tells you to connect the usb. Is this an indication that the cord no longer works? Because if thats the case, I hate everything. Had this cord for not even a week lol. EDIT: I restarted it and it worked. I swear I restarted it three times before. All I needed to do was complain apparently. Thanks anyway!

glad im not the only one. I have that problem too but i think its because i dont have a usb 3 but i have a usb 3 hub but it emulates usb 2 because of its backward compatibility and all my ports are usb 2 or maybe the cables are at fault and i dont really need a usb 3

Go to where your oculus software is in file explorer, click it then click support, then oculus diagnostics, then oculus debug tool and at the bottom under oculus link where you see encode resolution width, change that to lower than 2700, for no lag I would recommend 2300 or 2400

I've had some problems with black screens, and audio issues. My link is unstable... When it works, it works quite well... But when it doesn't, it's very frustrating. It just decides to stop cooperating every now and then for no reason. But usually a headset restart will fix it. Link is in beta folks... So there's that. :)

@@HKR_Studios My problems have all but been obliterated since going with Virtual Desktop and a wireless connection. I've been playing a lot of No Man's Sky VR over SteamVR via Virtual Desktop. It's not perfect. There are some frame drops occasionally (and I don't have the highest-end video card), but for me, it's extremely playable. And the fact that I'm not tethered has all but made my life a joy! I hear people complain about frame drops or lagging... but unless it's relentless, I can always overlook a bit of lagging, given the constraints of what I'm trying to accomplish.

I was using scrcpy, but games will just show on the PC and to cast the home environment you can use the Oculus mirror program in the Oculus folder on your PC

If anyone encounters your quest screen freeze. Then you wait a couple minutes, and then hold the button on the side of your headset for about 20 seconds or more, this will restart your headset. You will then hear the sound that you hear when you turn it on. That is when you know it worked.

I recently purchased the recommended Anker cable from the oculus webpage and installed the software onto my pc. Whenever I plug my usb c into my headset and the usb 3.O into my motherboard nothing happens. I've literally tried everything, I checked the software on both my pc and the quest, uninstalled and reinstalled the software but it can never pick up my headset. Any ideas why that is? Any help would be appreciated at this point.

I need help no matter what I do I cant reach the "home environment" on my quest. I have the anker 3.0 usb cable, my laptop has a gtx 970m graphics card) I tried to reset, restart, and nothing works. I do see that box that says enable oculus link (beta), but once I press accept it just takes me back to oculus quest homescreen.

Same here. I have the same USB 3.0 cable plugged in and the Oculus software says I have all green checkmarks. I've tried restarting the software and the headset multiple times with no success.

If you're using the usb A adapter, try flipping it around (so the party link text is on the same side)

Wade Clevenger this was a problem that started with the updates. You have to manually update the oculus pc by clicking on test channel so it matches the update with the quest. You can read about it in the oculus patch notes. They are working on it so that when one update comes out it will come out for the pc and quest at the same time

On your oculus desktop app go in settings - beta - turn on public test channel

@@madhater1136 That has changed now with the newest update...now it needs to be not on..they are going bck and forth and people are geting pissed including me. not sure what if anything they are working on the link not working, but then go ahead and rip people off of 120bucks fora cable that is having the same issues as people who are using the cheaper cables. I have a Jato and anker branded cables. Its hit and miss it it works. Mine was working pretty decent there last week, not it disconnected last night and ive been trying for the last our to reconnect going over and over all these loops in the video..wish company would not release shit untill its actually working. Now tey added another update to throw another F into it. Before you used to have to have PTC enabled....on ver12(.1)..but now with ver13 you have to have it off...hopefully they get the link working on a stable release...driving me nuts lol

Whenever I try and enable the oculus link (Beta) it doesn’t work like it- says it over and over again (it just keeps saying enable oculus link) . Then, they say the PC is not connected and it’s just loops that over and over again. Any solutions??

Make sure the cable is connected directly into the motherboard. Not the other ports around the case

I have found the solution: If you have an AMD graphics card, you need to downgrade the drivers. It's a compatibility issue with the oculus software. Although I strongly suggest just buying Virtual Desktop to play without any cables.

I FIXED THIS ISSUE!!! Go to your control panel, find your usb drivers, right click to properties and then turn off power saver!!!! works amazing now. Restart computer and oculus after doing

So I have green across the board and when I enable it in my headset it's either the three dots and plays the Oculus home theme. Also it will sometimes be completely black and no audio is to be heard.. I restarted my headset for both of these instances and there was no change. I also can launch a vr game on my pc and when I play it it's black in the quest but when I look at my monitor it's perfectly playing and everything is working. I JUST CANT SEE. The audio plays through the quest but please help me. I know you have a lot of comments but please help me..

@@traviswieser I have that same setup and run into issues with the disconnecting. A theory I have is that my motherboards USB controller isn't pushing enough power to all of my devices. I'm recording using a canon live recording software using my DSLR, and I've noticed that the link disconnects at the same time as the camera. It's possible that disconnected a few USB devices could fix the issue but I haven't tested it thoroughly

Same, and now my headset has gone dark and I cant do anything even when I'm disconnected from my PC! I can see the controls and the grid and that's it. Restarting dose nothing. I hope It's not a brick!

Hey do you know how i can fix a problem I have. I am using the cable that comes with the quest itself to charge but It says that its recognizing a USB 2, and when i am in the menu its running buttery smooth like my hands and clicks and everything you can do in the menu, Ive only tried echo arena i think is the name but its really choppy in the game, but if i look on my screen its running super silky smooth. Do you know how to fix that?

when ever i plug in my headset to my pc it works and everything is fine but inside the app it says its lower than 3.0 when i have it plugged into a 3.1 gen 2 port and the cable itself is 3.2, any fixes?

Whenever I start SteamVR, after a few seconds, the Quest either disconnects telling me it can't find the PC anymore OR the screen in the Quest just freezes. Any ideas? ALVR on the other hand, is working flawless for hours and hours.

With me, my cable would randomly be connected and disconnected when I made the slightest change to the cable. So it’s a bit weird but I put the quest down and fidgeted the cable until it said it’s connected and from there I did everything. Also try turning off and on developer mode.

I have a quest 1 and it’s refursbished so it might be a problem with the device. But when I plug in my cable it makes the noise that my pc recognized it and I see that my oculus is charging but my oculus app will never detect it and it’s just infinitely looking for a device in the oculus app. I’m also using the same cable as you and nothing is working to fix it

@Tyco Tech not sure if pings work but I have a different problem so I plug in my Oculus cable click enable but it either doesn't plug it in, spam that thing again and again not working, or I get it in but it disables after 3 seconds then after a milisecond it re enables for another 3. Also my oculus and cable is new

How about the mic? I can't seem to get mine to work in anything. I've changed settings in my control panel on the computer and in game. Nothing is working. Pretty important in Pavlov TTT. Using the link cable with a usb c to usb a adapter.

I have party link cable and it works fine for a couple seconds and then it stutters and then freezes and I just see black bars and a frozen image of my game but when a take a glimpse at my pc moniter the game is still working and when I look around I can see that it is responsive I’m just not getting the feed back on quest . Any fix ?

Whats the 15ft passive cable you mentioned that works? And is the 30ft active cable you mentioned the same as the 32ft extension you posted in the description?

I've read you're suppose to hit deny when it says allow computer to access data on the headset? Allow or not, it simply does nothing. It may go black for a moment but I always end up on the Quest home menu instead of the PC version. Please help!

Hi I just bought a ub c to c olusus cable and tested it out. It works good with GORN but when I tried playing fallout VR it was really choppy! Also the Oculus menu was a little choppy as well, is that normal since it's still in beta?

Oculus Link problem for Quest 2. Have the cable plugged into the computer, have the Oculus App running (connected with a green tick), restarted it a bunch, and can't load into the Rift menu to play on my PC. Also clicked allow for the Oculus Link on the headset. Could the type of cable be the issue, or the fact that I'm using a laptop (still within specs (plugged in for power)) be the issue?

So I have one issue. I got the actual oculus link cable and did all the steps to play rift games. The oculus app shows two green lights. However on my quest whenever I click on the enable oculus link it just blinks the boundary box border line and doesn't go to the pc rift home environment. I have no clue how to fix this. I tried unplugging it for a few seconds, checked for updates, tried the newly integrated universal beta menu and nothing seems to work. Am I doing something wrong?? Specifically, I'm trying to play vrchat and see the pc avatars over the quest avatars. I should be able to see and play as pc avatars if I'm connected with oculus link right? Tried steam vrchat and oculus app vrchat versions too

I plug it in using the 10 ft party link cable you suggested, get the all greens then I put on the headset and try to turn on the Oculus link but it keeps telling me that Oculus link has stopped and no matter what I do the app will not stay open! hi, runnin gravity sketch, after cople of hours working unplugged, i'vot a video error. like old artiifiacts of video pal to say, bit sqwuared colored black. quitted the app and relaunched, idem. after restart, even other apps do the same. what could it be? i was running low power say 16%...does tha mean anything? i'll try tomorrow when it will be fully charged.
