In this video, I go over the Oculus Quest Charging Dock by AMVR.
If you're looking for a nice and convenient way to basically wirelessly charge Oculus Quest, I think you'll like this solution. I've only seen one other Oculus Quest Charging dock and it tears up any skins you might have on, the AMVR Oculus Quest charging station is adjustable to avoid that and will accommodate different size facial interfaces. Not only does it charge, but makes for a nice little Oculus Quest Display stand ;-)

Tyco Tech do you notice the magnet gets super hot on the Quest side? Mine gets so hot it would burn you if you touch it with your finger.

I- i bought their old non charging stand yesterday- crap! Edit: I have such a love-hate relationship with this company, they released their facial interface 2 days after i got the vr cover one, i got the kiwi design straps without realising the amvr grips are way cheaper than the mamuts, so i then bought those anyway. and now i hear they're making a halo headstrap. Which is great except i bought a DAS with my christmas cash. In hindsight i have problems 😅

Hmmm...Great review as always Ty but I'm struggling to see the use of this. The magnetic part I'd have to constantly take in and out as I use battery packs so it could be lost easily, plus there doesn't seem much wrong with keeping the Quest on charge on my desk or end of my sofa arm! So easy just to plug in and charge as standard. It's like inventing something without really a need for it....

it should come with a charging option for the controllers aswell. dazed manufactures a rechargable battery pack

Hi Ty, thanks for the video. Do you know if the Quest’s batteries get damaged over time if you always leave the Quest charging in the AMVR magnetic charging dock ?

Apparently these have melted the charge port on oculus headsets according to several different reviews on Amazon. Just go with the plastic stand with no charge from AMVR, it works fine and no risk of melting your device or starting a house fire.

Good to see an idea ! Just wondering how abt. the original Oculus Link connection? It does make a lot of trouble and damage to the USB-C socket because of switching every time between the charging base and the Link cable. The beautiful of magnetic connection inspired by Apple Mag-safe which makes a perfect address the issue of safety, convenience and the connector wearing from time to time. To solve the obstacle, I suggest the manufacturer provide another proprietary Oculus Link cable with a magnetic connector that is compatible with the charging base magnetic head.

I don't think the round mag cables transfer data so you'll have to pull the adapter out anytime you want to update games via SideQuest.

If you have a external battery and a magnetic cable do you have to switch the usb c insert or will it work with that one?

You will likely have to change it, unless it's the same type. Not sure exactly what this adapter is called.

If your a VR Quester that uses link.. this is a no-go because of the magnet connector. You would have to yank that in / out evey time to go Link. I just keep my link plugged in all the time and it keeps charge.

Good idea, but if you use the Link cable to connect to pc, removing the magnet regularly can harm the port. 👀

If you're careful I don't think it'll be anymore of an issue than plugging/unplugging the link.

Hi GamingLegends For me I use a magnetic charging cable connected to a Power Pack at the back of my Quest Headset, so if I used this charging station it would be real easy for me, however I do get your point, but the actual connect into the quest is quite easy to remove, what would be really cool would be a USB Type C splitter cable, so for example it connects into your quest but extends a little up with 2 additional USB type C connections, meaning 1 for the magnetic charge and the other for connection to PC, but hey I'm just a dreamer :)

Long shot. Any clue if available all over or just us. Uk ,myself. I'd buy one for sure. This is for me lol. Non stop forgetting to charge it. Everyday I'm tethered to the charger or my power bank lol. Finally got a deluxe audio strap. If in the UK always try cex. On eBay they shot up to £150 yikes lol.

Question about the magnetic connector piece that plugs into the Quest. Do you know if it is compatible with any other magnetic cable? I like the idea of this and would like to be able to keep that piece in while playing and using a magnetic cable and battery pack. Could not find a way to ask seller on amazon. Thanks for the videos

@@tycotech If you switch a lot with the Oculus Link Cable this may not be feasible. Taking that magnetic USB out of the Quest will be a pain and likely for breakage as found with mobile phones

The charging cable it comes with (5ft cable)? I'm not sure, I didn't test it. I'm guessing it will, I've never seen a charge only USB C-C cable. I'll test it later when I'm home and comment back.

how will having that magnetic thing attached to the Quest effect using Oculus Link? Will you have to unplug it every time, and how hard is it to remove and put back on after every use?

Pops out, not too hard. Just use VD and you won't have to worry about it ;-)

@@tycotech Honestly Oculus should have done this with a connect for the PC because I pullled to hard on my Link cable one day and bent a usb-c to usb-a connector. If they had done this for the pc connector it would have prevented that.

Mmm, 30 dollars seems pretty cheap. I bought the Dazed Charge Dock which was £70. It's very nifty, motorized moving parts with a similar charging mechanism as this one and with custom battery packs for controllers which you can stick inside the charge dock to charge at the same time. Sadly, its got a few issues and anything that isn't stock (controller grips, interface, counterweight) makes the thing stop working. Real shame :( I'm tempted to pick this one up but am afraid my cats will play with the controllers if they're suspended mid air... Might buy it simply because it looks neat while charging and I'll just put controllers in my desk drawer.

@@tycotech Ordered last night, arrived today! Very minimalistic looking, i like it! I'm using a powerbank as a counterweight with a magnetic connector, and even though it connects perfectly to the AMVR one, the pins are slightly different so it doesnt charge. :/ I'm going to ask AMVR if they can sell me a short half a foot magnetic USB cable or point me in the direction of the brand they're using.

It's nice if you use it for standalone but doesn't support earbuds (in theory, I returned it immediately). I really don't know why they didn't leave notches so you could leave earbuds still plugged in. Completely ruins the convenience factor.

AMVR needs to make a "notch/channel/space" so you can leave your audio jack plugged in (DAS, headphones, etc). Then I would buy one.

One caught on fire says one of the Amazon reviews, some that the station won't charge after a month. More than a good reason to not buy it.

In theory it seems good but did you ACTUALLY TEST IT? The charges are super unreliable. I have had it connected up, magnet lined up, light indicator on and the next day- only 5% battery. Also, if you have any kind of headphones plugged into your headphone jack(s), this wont fit in the cradle and you have to unplug the headphones every time you put this on the cradle. This is not a good charger. Don’t waste your money.

its a good concept but not practical. 1, you shouldnt leave your portable devices on the charger all the time, you shouldnt even always charge to 100 all the time. 2, you will have to remove/replace that dongle every time you want to connect the headset to a regular cable (mobile charging or connecting to PC). I would think a charging case would be more practical (a case with internal/removable battery), but even that i wouldn't use on the regular.

There is an on/off switch on the stand so you dont have to keep it charging all the time.
