I just love the fact that scallops swim exactly like how Spongebob taught us. As a kid I thought it was because they were the equivalent of butterflies, I didn't think they actually swam like that!

Yeah, I would have adored this as a kid. I watched Blue's Clues at the same time I was hooked on National Geographic wildlife documentaries, and this would have been a perfect medium. I hope he's still an active creator when that kid I ordered gets delivered. It's still nice to fall asleep to at night, and I'm 35. I usually listen to topics that are a bit more explicit that make my fiancée cranky (like WWII history, true crime, etc), but she teaches bio and genetics so she approves of me listening to this at bedtime til I pass out. 😅

I would go gaga as a child if I saw this on TV. It’s calm and easy to understand. I was always fascinated by the sea, but way more back then as a child. As I grew older, I came to learn how beautiful but terrifying yet enigmatic the sea is. I’d love to explore it someday.

I used to want to be an oceanographer, then I learnt too much and now one of my biggest fears is deep open bodies of salt water 😂 Now I’m studying freshwater ecology specifying in diseases. That way I will just work in a lab and avoid going into deep water 🤣 also diseases are interesting to me

I can explain that, it’s just science even though it’s hilarious! That’s how they get here from outer space! They just fall like meteors, bloop into the ocean and plop down to the sea floor. Then they wait and bode their time until an unsuspecting fisherman picks it up, and then it attaches to his face and takes control of his mind to be used as a human meat puppet extension of Starro the Conq-wait… nevermind. I got science and comics mixed up again. Lemme start over. A ninja can use chakra focused through their feet to walk on water.. this is a common enough skill that young shinobi in training can accomplish it and therefore it becomes second nature and a somewhat mundane way to battle. When a ninja needs more precision with projectiles and has few kunai to spare, they will throw stars. These stars are typically four pointed and… not… alive… and… uhm.. shit. I did it again. I dunno… maybe homeboy got yeeted off a fishing boat, or swept up in a current or something. Or maybe he called another fish’s mom fat and got bitchslapped across the ocean. All equally plausible for that random starfish plopping down in the middle of the sea.

sea stars, urchins, sand dollars and sea cucumbers are all cousins! they’re part of the phylum echinodermata, with their own unique classifications to further define them (urchins and sand dollars are even more closely related since they’re also in the same class) :) they have extreme regenerative properties, especially starfish, which can completely regrow arms, and if the fallen arm has a piece of the original starfish’s central disk area, a whole new starfish is born! It’s an awesome display of asexual reproduction

When I was learning a different language I couldn’t just listen to any video out there in that language, I had to find slower ones with good annunciation. To be completely honest, I liked this channel a lot better when it wasn’t made to look like an educational program for children, with the same piano riffs after a question or an answer, and the same footage of him finding an answer on a page, but it’s always just the same one word on the same one page that he points to…. But hey that’s just one person’s opinion. I see a lot of people saying they love this and that’s great. To each their own! I can tell this dude really loves what he’s doing and has high hopes, and I can totally dig that and respect his hard work. It’s just a little too….. infantile for my tastes I suppose…

I have a flame scallop and a tuxedo urchin in my reef tank. They’re definitely one of my favorite invertebrates. P.S. Many urchins eat algae. Some are omnivores, eating algae and meaty foods that they find while moving around.

One of the things I was looking for the most at the beach were skeletons of sea urchin, I found them so pretty, they have different colors too. The thing is, they're pretty fragile so finding one intact wasn't that easy :) I also used to catch them alive, and straight up eat them raw with friends 😅

Part of what I love about your videos is how you state common misconceptions and then address that it is an error. It's a nice way to show people that it is okay to make mistakes and learn new things. As someone who used to intern at a nature center where I would give tours, I love seeing people make content like this for people who don't have a background in biology.
