This video will provide detailed information on the genuine Kawasaki Auxiillary lights and harness along with the Kawasaki Aux lights harness connectors to interface with 3rd party aux lights.
The genuine Kawasaki Aux Lights harness can be purchased at many sources for $5.69. Here is the link to Revzilla: www.revzilla.com/oem/kawasaki...
Source #2 is Partszilla and here is the link to Partszilla for this OEM harness: www.partzilla.com/product/kaw...
1: I now have sorted out the connectors that are used on the genuine Kawasaki Aux Lights power (stock on the bike) connector and its mate if you want to use this available power connector (on the bike) that is only on with the key. There is the male and female. I bought the 5 sets option. I bought both in the pig tail configuration so there is no cutting into the bikes power connector and no crimping of pin in the connectors. These male / female sets are from Amazon and are from a company called Sumitomo. Cost just under $20.
Amazons LINK: www.amazon.com/WEFITZ-Sumitom...
Amazon title: Motorcycle Cable Harness Plug 1 2 3 4 Pin Sumitomo MT090 Sealed Auto Waterproof Cable Female Male Connector Wire Harness Socket Motorcycle Housing Plug Power Connector Plug.
2: There are two options for purchases for the Harness to Aux lights connections - Let's call the Method 1 and Method 2.
Method 1: This connector is also from Sumitomo, and I found it in a set of 1,2,3,4 and 6 pins male & female connectors. You only need the two-pin connector. Maybe with more time/research a better option could be found. These are just the raw connectors, pins and watertight grommets. These will need to be crimped.
Amazon title: ARTICHOKE Xiaojiang Store 1 Box 343 Pcs 2.2mm Waterproof Male Female Sumitomo HM 090 Automotive Electrical Connector with Terminals and Seals. $31.60
Amazon link: www.amazon.com/ARTICHOKE-Xiao...
Method 2: This is my 2nd Amazon purchase utilizing pig tails (no crimping pins option).
This connector is also from Sumitomo and have the pig tails for no crimping of pins. Cost: $19. You will need to buy a quantity of 2 of these.

Kawasaki SWITCH, FOG LAMP 27010-0850 - this is pricy at $88 from Revzilla link: www.revzilla.com/oem/kawasaki...
The connector needed to interface with the Kawasaki switch interface connector on the OEM Aux light harness. Sumitomo MT090 Male Mororcycle Housing power plug. I have bought this connector and confirmed it is the right one. It is the 4-pin option on this Amazon link: www.amazon.com/WEFITZ-Sumitom...

thanks for the Video! I love my 300 and ride at night a lot, commute in the day and want visibility, This bike is my only good condition vehicle so I don't want to Frankenstein the harness for fog lamps, and I cant justify the cost for the OEM lamps...This is all the info, and products needed to do the work cleanly, thanks a ton!

You are welcome. I more horror stories I hear about with hacking into vehicles wiring the more I stand by my position of "Not" hacking off connectors or tapping into wire harnesses. Clean install is the way to go. Enjoy your X300.

I just ordered the OEM brackets to use to mount my aftermarket aux lights. I want to try and mount them do they are less prone to striking the ground when it gets dropped off road. Great video.

You are welcome. I had to do some digging to find the Kawasaki Aux light power connector and harness mating connectors. Fun little project and didn't cost a lot to source all the connectors. With this knowledge you can add on just about any Aux light with no bike wiring being hacked. That is the one thing I try to avoid is cutting up the bike's wiring. Everything I've done to my X300 can be taken back off and my bike can be made totally stock again by the next owner.

@@joegardens1973 The genuine Kawasaki crash bars are not the best design out there however, I fixed that by attaching the crash bars to the T-Rex Racing heavy duty skid plate. See my video on that attachment. I have several videos on the T-Rex Racing skid plate - with a video on adding 2 inch angle iron "rails" back to both the M10 frame/center stand mounts. Very informative Dave. The 650 is a little different, the factory wires for the lights are somewhere near the fuel tank on the left side, I have yet gone on the search. I've looked at some small lights on Amazon for a future project, like you I just want more to been seen better. I have some water proof Amazon connectors and will make a harness for the lights to run all the time when the headlights are on. You defiantly gave me ideas, thanks

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this informative video together. You have surely been of great help! One small question. I am planning to use an aftermarket switch. Do you know the wiring configuration for the Kawasaki switch? I mean which terminals on the original switch are the positive and negative supply side and which are the ones going to the fog lights.
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone Жыл бұрын
For the dash switch in the OEM Aux lights harness I don't have the terminal break out information. It would be possible to use a continuity tester on the Aux harness and see which positions on the Aux switch connector goes out to the lights and the other two would be 12volts and ground. The connector that mates to the dash switch connector is: www.amazon.com/WEFITZ-Sumitomo-Motorcycle-Waterproof-Connector/dp/B0B9HH4MWM/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Sumitomo%2BMT090%2BSealed%2BAuto%2BWaterproof%2BCable%2BMale&qid=1675805284&sr=8-1&th=1 I would buy one of these and use a continuity tester (Digital Multi Meter) and from there use a voltage source to connect to the switch connector and get the polarity correct. In the text above there are part numbers, sources, links, costs for all the mating connectors on the OEM Aux harness. I would buy the connectors for the ends (lights) and the dash switch connector. The OEM harness has the 2-pin connector which gets the 12 volts/ground from the "key on" bike. These are all inexpensive. Thanks for your questions.

Thanks for your videos Dave, they are the most comprehensive and comprehendible I've found for Versys-X 300 how-tos. Curious if you know why my two-pin white connector shows no power? The Kawasaki harness was so cheap, I figured it was worth snipping off the two connector ends and splicing in my 3rd party lights manually. (I'd probably go with your suggestion, but the connectors you mention are either currently unavailable or won't show up for a few weeks.)

The two pin white (Aux) connector = there are possibly two things to be aware of: 1) It is powered only while the bike key is turned on and 2) There is a additional relay that needs to be added for the 2 pin white (Aux) connector to essentially "activate". The connector for the relay is within an inch or two of the 2 pin white connector and if no one has purchased and installed the relay then both Aux connector features will not get power. The first is the 2 pin white connector and the second feature is the two greenish barrel connectors (power & ground) that are also right there where the 2 pin white connector and the black relay connect is located which is left side directly below the dash where the round blank little cover that is used for USB/12 socket accessories is located. Let me know what you have found. Thanks for the question. The relay can be purchased at a Kawasaki dealer, Amazon, Ebay or from any of the online web sites like Partszilla or Revzilla under OEM parts. What I went with is a combo - ralay and dual USB charger for the left side dash provision. It is on Ebay and very expensive as you get both LINK: www.ebay.com/itm/402454450844? Also please see my other Aux lights/electronics video for much more details on the Aux lights installation (sources, parts, links, all there in the text below the video) LINK: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7yqerCJqdiaf58.html&ab_channel=trekOCLVone

@@trekOCLVone Thanks for your reply. That makes sense. I don't know how I missed the relay requirement in all my digging. I've ordered one and it is on its way. I'm actually having a hard time finding the two green barrel connectors, but I don't plan on doing a power supply in the near future. All other connections are pretty easy to find, I don't think I'll have an issue wiring or connecting anything. Another question, the Kawasaki wiring harness has 4 little push pin connectors to help hold it in place, do you have any way to describe where those corresponding holes are on the bike? Having trouble finding them.
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone Жыл бұрын
@@boardingbear The two light translucent green barrel connectors are very close to the 2 pin white Aux connector. (and the relay socket). They maybe tuck behind the metal right there by the 2 pin white Aux connector. The Link above for the relay/USB charging ports directly plug into the green barrel connectors. The Kawasaki OEM 12 volt socket (old cigarette lighter type socket) also plugs into the green barrel connectors directly. (But is over $100 now - OUCH) The 4 little push pins on the Kawasaki Aux light harness press into the four holes on the Kawasaki OEM crash bars that have the mounting points for the OEM Aux lights. If you don't have the Kawasaki brand crash bars then the 4 little push pins will not be of any use. I hope this helps.

Do the factory fog lights come complete with the harness and switch? I've already got a relay for the 12v socket. I'm waiting to see if Kawasaki eventually reduce the price of the oem lights, nearly 300gbp in the UK. I've looked at 3rd party lights, but I don't think any of them utilise the crash bar mounts.

The factory fog lights come with everything needed - the lights, dash switch and the harness. All plug and play. The only thing that is needed is the Kawasaki relay. Hey Dave, thanks for the video. I am trying to figure out the best way to hardwire my Zumo XT with switched power. The Zumo XT comes with a cable to hardwire. Can I wire the female side of the white connector to the Zumos power cable and just plug it into the bike's white male connector? These connections have OEM fuses already, right? I may also need to buy the Kawasaki relay. Hopefully, I explained my question enough because this stuff is confusing to me! haha

There are different ways to power up any electronic gadget. Other video on my channel talk about the two connector types that already exist on the X300. The short story:::: There is the white colored 2 pin connector that is intended to be solely used for the Kawasaki OEM Aux lights accessory and the other is the translucent green individual barrel connectors that is intended for the way overpriced 12 Vdc socket receptacle (12Vdc and ground). I have many electronic gadgets all using the combination of the two connectors. These two connectors combined require the OEM relay that can be also purchased with a dual USB charge ports to be installed in the left side dash of the X300 instead of the 12 Vdc socket. My USB charge ports came with the relay off of Ebay for a total of $26. The Relay gets its power (for the white and translucent green connectors) from an Accessory fuse under the seat. It is rated at 5 Amps. That is important to know as you cannot try to load up gadgets that exceed this value. In real life I would not go much past 3 Amps as to not accidentally blow the 5 Amp fuse. This is 12 Volts times let's say 4 Amps = 48 watts. For each gadget you need to know the Amps needed to power the device and add up the power needed for each gadget. 48 watts doesn't sound like much but one of the biggest power hogs is the OEM Aux lights accessory at 1.3 Amps = 15 watts. Example - I have the OEM Aux lights PLUS the dual USB charging ports PLUS a GoPro 10 with mic adapter PLUS Garmin Zumo XT PLUS wireless phone charger all using this 5 Amp fuse circuit. But- Be smart. Add up the power needed for all the gadgets. My wireless phone charger only needs power to operate the phone and not charge the phone or keep the display turned on. I put the phone on the X300 fully charged and keep the display off. The Garmin is on for directions and the phone's apps are on for communications with my helmet com - Cardo Edge. So, the phone takes very little power to just stay charged. Please see my other videos on the electronics. I have the OEM Aux lights, and Zumo off the white 2 pin connector. There is a video on that. The translucent 2 pin barrel connectors are powering the dual USB charger ports (for the GoPro) and the wireless phone charger. There is a video on what to do for that to get done. My calculations show a total power usage of around 3.5 Amps so, well below the 5 Amps fuse limit. Any questions please ask. I'm here to help. If you are really lost, we can try a better form of communications. (Messaging to start with) I have NOT cut into the bikes wiring at all. I do not like to hack into the bike's wiring. I see other videos that butcher the wiring and that will only lead to trouble. Everything I say here is a clean safe install.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I checked out the other video, which did an awesome job explaining those connectors. I think for now, I will be just using power for the Zumo XT, so I will purchase the relay and the female version of the white 2-pin connector. It is nice to know that I can utilize additional accessories in the future like you have. I also like the clean look and, like you mentioned, not having to chop up the OEM wiring. I have subscribed and will take a look at the rest of your videos, as you seem to have a lot on the Versys X-300!@@trekOCLVone

Ken, I did not determine what connector would be needed to take the place of the OEM dash switch cable. I assumed that most people would go with the Kawasaki OEM dash switch. I didn't research if the rectangular dash switch provision is an industry standard or if Kawasaki invented that form factor. It shouldn't be too hard to find the switch cable connector. It should be another Sumitomo connector in one of the three families of 090 series. I have the Kawasaki Aux lights cable here and tomorrow I will pull out all the pieces parts (and there are a lot of them, some never proved to be of any use for the other connectors) and see I can fast track and answer for you.
