The LED light that came with the bench is up and running. Extra lighting is needed - I'll think of something. In the next video "Part 3" is where all the fun happens. Over the top accessorizing. I've thought about a sound system and started searching for some options. Part 3 won't have any sound system but there are several interesting add on which are aesthetic jewelry especially for a work bench/ tool cart. A peek at what is coming is a quick disconnect full size bench vise. A killer sound system might be a start for the Part 4 video. lol Somebody stop me. I need to get back on the motorcycle content.

Well - I can't promise you that the inside of the sides will get painted. BUT - and this is a big BUT - wait until you see Part 3! It will more than likely be the over the top - what the heck is he thinking - did he really do that on a work bench? - come on where does this insanity stop! lol You got to see it! This is where the sequel is crazier than the first 2 parts combined plus 10. Thanks for your comment. Here is a little peek - a quick release full size bench vise. Yup - it is going to get real.

Made the change following Dave's instructions! Probably couldn't have done it without an air impact. Friend stood on the rear brake. I put the rear tire on the ground a few times while loosening and tightening the front sprocket nut. Sort of equivalent to leaving your car off the jack while loosening and tightening lug nuts. Love, love the results. Can use 1st now without waking the neighbors at 6 AM, better fuel efficiency, and all the other gears are stretched out longer/taller too! Was: 1st: 0-8mph 2nd: 9-16 3rd: 17-22 4th: 23-27ish 5th: 28-32 6th: 32+ Passing at high speed: No dropping down to 5th bc revs are already plenty high. 5th is overkill. Now: 1st: 0-14 2nd: 15-22 (or longer and No Big Deal) 3rd: 22-28 (or longer & NBD) 4th: 28-35 (or longer & NBD) 5th: 35-41 (or longer & NBD) 6th: 41+ Passing: Whatever you want! Dropping to 5th doesn't feel like Versys 300 Kamikaze death. (Bad Japanese bike joke) Again, well done, Dave!

@@DTBB515 Fantastic! At only 200 miles on my X300 I changed out the front to the 15-tooth rubber bumpered front sprocket and never looked back. There are X300 owners that go in the other direction with a 14/47 for extra low-end torque. The X300 engine is from the 300 Ninja that has 14/43 I believe. So, the 15--tooth was the first modification I did on my X300. Glad is all worked out for you and enjoy your little Versys.

Do you think you could cut the 9 1/2 metal frame and reattach with say hose clamp so it would be adjustable then lock it down???

Another KZfaq video that I watched did exactly what you mentioned. cut the metal vertical frame and use hose clamps to essentially shorten the frame by about an inch or so and then use the shorter filters that are available. It seemed to work. With my approaches to finding a solution I chose to not cut up the frame. By some very very small chance that someday some company will make a drop-in replacement I leave the frame stock and found the filter shown in my video that with just a hole being drilled and an O-ring used the alternate filter is working great. I am still using this method today.

Several X300 owners with a rear tire flat have driven their bike home or to a shop. The rear is so stiff it will not come off the bead. The front will need to be fixed on the road. You will need a tube or patch kit and tire irons also a way to air back in. I have a self contained air pump with internal battery.

@@wolfshield2638 One X300 owner rode his rear flat Trailmax Mission tire for 40 km (26 miles) with no issues. The tire inflator I carry on the bike is a: Fanttik X8 Portable Tire Inflator. Also I have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for early tire trouble detection. I just stack the deck in my favor to avoid being stranded. @@trekOCLVone i do not know who else to ask lol. But my versys 300 the tires have been getting awful hot to where the tire pressure increased by 10 the other day. I cannot find anywhere that states the MAX hot psi. Just the cold psi. I was running at 28/32 cold. The back tire was over 40 and the front was almost at 38 when hot. I stopped to let air out cause I literally was able to tell the tires had more pressure. I was concerned the tubes couldn't handle that extra pressure. Has this happened to you?

@@wolfshield2638 I do see an increase in tire pressure and hence an increase in PSI. The TPMS gives me both PSI and temperature at the valve / rim. The front and rear tires cold I have currently at 33 PSI. There is a rule of 10% for tires to change PSI by 10% and that means starting with my front tire it stays pretty cool and close to ambient temperature. So, the front with the ambient temp being 72 may rise only 3 degrees and the PSI will rise only 1 to 2 PSI. This is below the 10% rule, so it is good to go. The rear has much more mass and much less air flow being that is in the back sheltered by the bike. So, the rear will for a 72-degree day the rear will rise to around 86 to 92 degrees resulting in the PSI to go from 33 PSI cold to 36 to 37 hot. That is close to the 10% change rule and is normal behavior. My TPMS is something that gives real time data and I like that and knowing both PSI and temperature of each tire is a great early warning system if something starts to go wrong. It is not mentioned but do you have the Trailmax Mission tires on your X300? If so, going from 32 PSI cold to 40 PSI tells me you must have a TPMS system also and with a gain of 8 PSI that is way above the 10% rule. Is your bike loaded with a lot of weight? Temperature rise is going to be affected with the amount of load added to the bike. I think the Trailmax Mission tires have written on them a max temperature of 40 PSI and that would be cold PSI. If I change my cold PSI on the rear to 36 the temperature rise should be less with the tire flexing less. Also, what type of tubes are you running in the front and rear. If you have replaced the stock IRC tubes with heavy duty tubes that will hold / build more heat and that will show up as a higher PSI gain and therefore temperature rise. I would stay with stock/ regular tubes for that reason.

It's a good thing it's been too hot to ride much. You're an interesting guy though, so I'll tend to give whatever you put out there a chance, bike related or not.

It has been said that mechanics that you can see is easier to understand, rather than electronics that you see but can't experience firsthand what it is capable of.

Below the video there is all the detail on each of the bulbs and the blinker flasher unit. I chose the flasher with the short cable pigtail to make it much easier to install under the seat. The OEM flasher must be replaced for the blinkers to function properly. Here is the link to the flasher that I suggest and I used on my X300. I removed my skid plate, my bike runs a tad too hot in mountains when tractoring or riding in town on hot days. My bike now runs 2 bars cooler again after taking it back off.

With my T-Rex HD Skid Plate on the bike I don't see a temperature rise on the dashboard. Probably due to where I'm riding which is out in the country mostly. Getting to all those corn fields I do have about 4 miles of traffic that I have to get past. I try to avoid the truly in town traffic light to traffic light kind of riding so, I also don't overheat. With all my riding gear I'm starting to sweat at about 80 degrees. Above that even my mesh gear isn't keeping me from melting. lol

I do. I went through an evolution of designs with the windshield that you see in this video. Starting with a store bought bracket with a GPS mount that started to fail I then machined the large aluminum bracket this is visible here that everything (GoPro, Garmin and phone) attaches too. The video details the custom windshield designs I went through to get what you see in this video. The billet aluminum bracket started out a 1/2 inch thick by 5-inch wide by 8-inches tall. Another milestone - 8,000 miles on 15-tooth rubber bumpered front sprocket and I continue to check out the sprockets and chain and it all looks and functions as new. Along with my Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires with over 6,500 miles on them also looking great with 10.3/32nd of an inch tread depth will be going to at least 12,000 miles before I consider a tire change. (new the Trailmax Mission rear had 14.3/32nd of an inch.

Thanks for posting this. I watched it and went ahead and switched mine out. The washers as spacers worked great! The impact gun is a must. The one issue I had was retorquing the sprocket. I ended up having my wife stand on the rear brake while I used my torque wrench LOL. It is a noticeable improvement in rideability. Thanks again.

I wasn't clear on how you held the back wheel for the removal of the sprocket nut... just the 2x4, or was it to release the back wheel so you can remove the chain from the front sprocket?🤔

I had the 2x4 just under the wheel for the removal of the front sprocket nut. It wasn't really needed as I used a pneumatic high torque Ingersol Rand impact gun for the nut removal. With the use of the Ingersol Rand the nut came off very fast - less than one second. The rear wheel didn't even move. There are X300 owners that have had a tough time removing that front sprocket nut because they didn't have the pneumatic/electric/battery impact gun. It can be tough to block the wheel and even with a breaker bar the nut doesn't move. The factory spec is 93.7 lbs. ft. That is a lot just and water/dirt/crud and let it rust for a year or more and you will be trying everything. The 2x4 does hold the rear wheel though - it is a good fit. Just get your hands on an good impact gun with a 27mm socket and the sprocket will zip right off.

Thank you for the compliment. In my case when I go to sell my Versys X300 the new owner will need to decide what to take off of the bike. Every accessory or mod I've done can be reversed or taken off leaving no trace. I've not modified the bike or any wiring in any way. The X300 is such a nice light do-all bike. My latest video is a summary of 20+ accessories/mods all in one. Most of the 20 accessories have their own expanded video. Enjoy !

All three items (green bullets, 2-pin white and the socket for the relay) are within a couple of inches of each other. G0 to @11:55 in the video you can see the relay towards the camera from the headlight and right below the relay is the 2-pin white connector and the green connectors are showing hanging down right by the headlight. Within the next minute or so I holding onto the connectors.

I carry some emergency equipment like a tire inflator and 12 Vdc jump box (like for a car) and fuel can and syphon hose. I'm still working on the full tool kit. But making a video on this topic sounds great! Look for it in the future.

nice video. how would one install a pair of amazon pod lights on the crash bars? is that a hard job to do? i assume the kawasaki OEM aux lights were easy since it already comes with the harnesses that make it plug and play?

@@ropeysubstance1719 I have no plans for a fuse block. I have a standalone relay for my Delani Soundbomb Split Air Horn. The dual USB charging ports, wireless phone charging mount, Zumo XT, OEM Aux lights and GoPro 10 are all using the bikes Aux Lights connectors (2 translucent green barrel connectors (12 Vdc & ground) for USB ports and phone, and the white 2 pin connector for the OEM Aux lights and Zumo XT. I daisy chain the 4 devices to only use the green barrel connectors and 2 pin white Aux lights connectors. All add up to about 3.5 Amp and all this is supplied from the 5 Amp Aux Lights fuse under the seat. If I add most electronics, I may just add another standalone relay or for 2 or more heated gear items might add a fuse block. No bike wiring has been hacked into. The bike is stock. All my accessories and mods can be undone with no damage to the bike or the bikes wiring.

All that is needed is the LED bulb. No other device is needed. In my video I use a 1157 LED and now there is a 1157 LED bulb that quickly strobes three times and then stay on steady state. There is something new all the time. I may swap out to the strobe version as that seems like it would the attention of car drivers behind the bike even more. @trekOCLVone , I really appreciate your help I get my 2023 Versys in about 6 weeks and I will stock up on the bulb and try to do the other lights too. One idea that you might consider is putting Yellow leds on the lower lights on the crash bars, makes you even more visible from the front.

@@newlife155 If you are referring to the Aux lights on the crash bars - they are OEM Aux lights and they are sealed so no changes are possible. Have fun upgrading your 2023 Versys X300. There is a lot of third-party support and changing/updating will be endless.

This Craftsman vintage motorcycle jack is all put together with M12 bolts and I used the original M12 bolts to change out the original M12 nuts with the M12 triangle eyelet ring nuts. Most motorcycle jack of this style would have either M12 or M10 bolts at the top two platforms that would come in contact with your Motorcycle. The bolts in your motorcycle jack may not have threaded end where I've used the triangle eyelet. I see a lot of modern jacks using washer and some sort of hitch pins. But whatever is in the top platform positions can be easily swapped out for threaded bolts with the length you need. It may take an extra lock nut to hold the platforms in place and the triangle eyelets out at the end of the bolts. So, the bolts are different lengths not the triangle eyelets. I hope I have not lost you in the detail. You will only need to know the diameter of your top bolts (probably M12 or M10) The vintage Craftsman jack is a 90 lbs. beast and used M12 bolts everywhere. All this hardware is inexpensive and fun to experiment with.

Why are there 4 wires coming off of the USB accessory? I know the two going to the barrel connections are included in the kit but what are the other two coming off it for?

At @12:00 in the video I'm talking about the Dual USB charging ports. On the back side I'm pointing to the "Y" spade lugs. Both female lug now providing two male luges that allow for 4 wires instead of the just the 2 that charger provides. So, on each charger male spade lug I've created 2 lugs. One for 12Votes and one for ground going to the bike provided green translucent barrel connectors. The other two newly created lugs (12 Vdc and ground) are the power going up to the phone wireless charging cradle. The USB charger is like a distribution point with the two 12Vdc and the two ground lugs = total of 4 wires. I hope I explain this well enough. Thank you for your question.

The 7,500 mile follow up. The 15-tooth rubber bumpered sprocket is working great. I just inspected the sprocket and chain, and everything looks like new and functions like new. The only thing needed was just wiping off the sprocket and case to remove some slight lube buildup.

Can you still fit the 112 link chain over the 15T sprocket or does this require another chain?

There is plenty of adjustment for the stock 112 link chain when changing the front sprocket to the 15-tooth. The 15-tooth sprocket barely makes a difference. On the other hand, the rear needs to be reduced to a 43-tooth to make the same amount of ratio change that "may" require links to be removed from the chain as that is a full 1.5 inch length difference. The 15-tooth front chain length is probably only 0.25 inch difference. Thank you for your question.

how would you fix a flat on the trail sir? Maybe the mission tire would be best on a tubeless rim?

Thank you for your question. These Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires are essentially run flat tires. Especially the rear where most flat tires seem to accrue. Three X300 owners have shared their experiences with flat rear tires, and they all were able to keep riding with no air in the rear. The tires stayed on the bead and the longest distance was 40 km (26miles) to get home or to a shop for help. I've gone one step further and added a TPMS system (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) to my X300 for early warning so, when the pressure starts to drop below 29 psi the TPMS system starts an audible beeping and the display flashes to get my attention. The TPMS system gives you more time to get help. The TPMS also provide the temperature at the valve stem for more data. An under inflated tire will generate more heat. From having the TPMS on my X300 for about a year or so the front tire stays at 2 to 3 degrees warmer than ambient, and the rear goes as high as 12 to 15 degrees over ambient. It I see anything beyond that I should investigate what is going on. Again, early warning something isn't right. I would recommend a easy to install TPMS system. Hey Dave, Axle Johansson here. Good install video. E clip pointers...removing, stick a small screwdriver in the E between the clip and what it's clipped on, twist the screwdriver, should pop right off, install...set it to the groove and with pliers just pinch it going from the clip and piece it mounts to

Excellent advice. My biggest concern was to have one of those E clips go sailing across the garage and with my garage full of stuff it would have been quite the job to find the needle in the hay stack. Thank you.

I wanted to have not only the wider platform but also wanted to tilt the platform for more compatibility with my adventure touring boots that are quite large in the toe area. So, two things had to be updated the shifter which is one inch longer that stock (also had the folding end) and the foot pegs that are tilted for easy shifting.

Don’t be a goon, just shove a piece of scrap wood or whatever you have laying around under the tire to keep it from spinning and hit it with impact. Comes off in 2 seconds

in the video I did use a piece of scrap wood and did use a pneumatic high power Ingersol Rand Impact. And I'm not a goon. Where did that come from?

Ordered the jt sprocket and then the kawasaki parts from my dealer and going to do this probably when I have new tires put on so it will fix two issues one with the vibration and two with the rapm at high speed

Fantastic! Many X300 owners change out the front sprocket to a 15-tooth (rubber bumper) so the RPM is relaxed. If you have any questions please - just ask.

I just got the XT2 and it would not charge via the USBC port from a wall charger, however it does charge using my battery power bank. It must need a certain amount of voltage to charge it. I’ll probably try a different wall charger next. Least it does charge while it’s not on my bike.

Yes - the Zumo units need to be charged from the most recent USB chargers with the blue plastic inside the connector on the charger. I spent way to much time figuring this out but kept at it until I understood what the requirements are for the Zumo and would think the Zumo XT2 would act the same way. Enjoy your Zumo XT2.

I have a battery bank by Anker that has a "Q" USB port and that was the first power source that worked. The "Q" port is a fast-charging port for 3 amps of current @ 5.2 Vdc. The Zumo must have a way to check for available wattage from a USB port and all the earlier versions of the standard "A" style original USB ports have the black plastic "key" in them. Those do not work. That is what I was dealing with at the beginning of this video where I could not get the Zumo XT to charge with it "ON" or "OFF". That was a frustrating time and my comments in the video were made with me not finding the correct USB port to charge the unit off the bike. But I kept at it and found what made the Zumo XT charge off the bike and with the unit either ON or OFF. And it was the version 3.0 of the USB-A power source with the blue plastic which tells you it is the 3.0 (latest version of USB-A) power connector. It shouldn't be this way - the Zumo XT should allow any USB-A source to charge it up even at a lower current and take longer. Garmin designed the Zumo XT to only charge with the high current USB-A power source. I hope this helps. Just find/buy a USB-A wall charger or battery bank with the 3.0 or higher version of connector (blue plastic), or the "Q" fast charging connector like the Anker battery bank that worked for me.

I found a Wall Charger on Amazon that does charge the Zumo XT2. It has three ports and is labeled as 128 W. GKUTW is the brand.

Great idea, now I'll have to get one. Did you use a bit of thread locker on the screws to help keep them in the holes?

Good question. I didn't but I should have. Generally, every fastener that I attach anything with gets Loctite. During this assembly I had one of the treaded holes on the tank that wanted to give me some trouble and I must have gotten sidetracked. But Loctite is the norm. By the Way this little tank bag is one of the top favorites as I use it on every ride, and it is so convenient to carry all the small stuff out to the bike and the bag snap clicks on the bike in one second. I used to carry all the items and put them on a bench and walk back and forth about 5 times to get all the gadgets attached to the bike.

@@trekOCLVone I've learned the hard way that I have to be very gentle with those little screws. I bought thread locker when I did some earlier mods and that has helped a lot. I've done a few of the mods that you did (thank you for the great videos) and I have a couple more things that I want to do this year if I have time.

@@lew3057 I've run into some cross threading issues on random fairing removal and reinstallation. I've learn to have on hand some matching taps to chase the threads immediately if the fastener will not easily start on the threads. So, for the X300 that means taps M3 through M6 (ish). I've not had any trouble with M8 and larger bolts.

thanks for the Video! I love my 300 and ride at night a lot, commute in the day and want visibility, This bike is my only good condition vehicle so I don't want to Frankenstein the harness for fog lamps, and I cant justify the cost for the OEM lamps...This is all the info, and products needed to do the work cleanly, thanks a ton!

You are welcome. I more horror stories I hear about with hacking into vehicles wiring the more I stand by my position of "Not" hacking off connectors or tapping into wire harnesses. Clean install is the way to go. Enjoy your X300.

I bought my Dad a sears vac. Pre 88. It's gray. 8 gallon I think. It takes a Blue Stripe filter. I will add a bolt so I can use the red stripe filter.
