I have 9. All used and abused and all still in great shape. Gave 3 to coworkers for their bugout bags. Great knives!

Now that I know these guys exist AND how excellent and "reasonably priced" their knives are... It's time to start a collection!

Good reviews...as I have noticed on some your other reviews as well. Good overall set of testing for real world stuff. Subscribed... looking to buy this model or their tanto...or both.

Wow, John, this reminds me of a Schrade blade, but at least a step up. I buy Chinese knives, myself, and disparage myself for doing so. But as much as price with quality catches my eye, I can't help but be interested. This Oerla brand is new to me, but it appears to be a solid choice. Many hard working Americans cannot spend big dollars. I would say Schrade is a hit and miss on quality control. I hope Oerla is a winner. Thanks for another honest review!

I understand how you feel about buying China made knives. I try to review a bit of everything on my channel. You are absolutely correct about some folks not being able to afford more expensive blades. That is why I feature knives like this. These are what I consider gateway blades lol. Thanks for sharing my friend.

John, I just subscribed to your channel. Your knife reviews are really great, especially the ones I've seen on the OerLa brand. I have been a handgun enthusiast for close to 30 years and primarily watch reviews of defensive handguns. Until recently the only knife interests I've had are what some people call "tactical" folders, I just call them defensive carry knives. For whatever reason I've lately had a deep urge to own a really nice (read heavy duty functional) fixed blade sheath knife but just can't bring myself to spend as much as or even half of what I'd pay for a high end handgun (HK, GLOCK, CZ, S&W, etc.). I mean yeah, I might spend that much on a Randall which is kind of a bucket list knife for me but even then I just can't justify it. So using Google I searched for high quality budget knives and found quite a few brands that interested me. Of course I watched many reviews but yours really stood out; a friendly yet no mercy testing ground. In one of your reviews the MTech kind of fell apart, lol. That was one brand that interested me until then. Then I watched other reviews but I kept coming back to yours, they remind me of the great handgun reviewers like Sootch00, Military Arms Channel, Mixup98, Hickok45, etc. So long story short, (too late), my first heavy duty fixed blade is going to be the OerLa OLHK-044 which I've already ordered and should have it in a few days. Anyhow, this is kind of a long winded thank you for the great info and high quality reviews that you put out. I'll be watching more of them in the future. Best regards from here in Texas, keep up the great work.

I've been impressed with the Oerla stuff too. I reviewed their Tac folder on Amazon and found it to be a very capable knife.

That's a very crowded market space for that design and price. This looks like an excellent knife and could be a market leader in time.

I need a small knife for my fishing tackle box and maybe something to fight off mountain lions and wolverines. Possibly eagles too. They like to swoop down on you when they see you've caught a fish.

P.s. Oerla also make Ferro rods in a little sheath that hooks to the holes of the knife sheaths. Awesome add on?

Is 440c stainless better or worse than 420?
@MrGonzo222 жыл бұрын
In the video you said the blade was 440c... I have been looking at this brand but have not been able to find a steal description other than "Stainless " I am a fan of true 440c steal... but I know alot of knifes claim 440c but is usually a 440a or 440b or even a 8cr or variant... I would think a "440c" with proper heat treat would have held its edge a little better on the test you give... is the blade marked 440"C"...?
@fit4knives8822 жыл бұрын
Nowhere on the blade has a 440c marking. I am only going by what the Oerla specs are.
@stephenrussell12212 жыл бұрын
I also think 440C would have held a better edge, knife looks great for the money.

If you said it, I missed it. So, what kind of grind is the blade? Flat saber? These are priced like the Gerber Strong-arm was back in 2015 but then again Gerber is made in Portland. These will probably go up in price soon. Personally, I don't care where they're made as long as they're quality. China has this steel down pretty good. I'd like to see this compared to the Strongarm.
@fit4knives8822 жыл бұрын
It doesn't specify what the grind is in the description but from what I can tell I think it is a flat saber grind on this model. I may do a comparison using those 2 blades. I'll give you a heads up when I do. Thanks my friend.
