Today we're driving into our off grid cabin for the first time this summer......while most of the country is in summer right now, here in the Lake Superior area there is still patches of snow.

Hey Dave, just found your channel yesterday and have managed to watch most of your collection already since then. My wife and I fall in that category of people you describe as living in excess with large amounts of money owed to mortgage, car payments and student loans. In the last couple years I have tried to venture outdoors more and learn to work with my hands and fix things myself. Your way of life speaks to me, and I dream of one day owning a few acres of land and building my own cabin. Thank you for the inspiration.

Hi There, My husband and I really like your channel. It inspired us to give it a try. We bought some land, and in one week on vacation we built a 12 by 12 cabin. We worked from sun up to sun down with a break during the hottest part of the day. We are not builders or carpenters actually we have desk jobs. We have never done this before, but we did it. The only thing we have left now is to put the siding on and finish the inside. This is going to be an all off grid cabin. The entire time we were building it we stayed in a tent. Now the tent is over and we can stay in the cabin. We have never been so sore, but it has all been worth it. Thanks for your channel.

This is so great to hear, congratulations and many happy days at your cabin! Are you going to dig a well?❤️
@nlasater3800 Жыл бұрын
@@lovespurpleflowers So, a well. First we are going to do Water Catchment off of our metal roof. We have the catchment drum and the gutters need to build the platform and hook it all up. The extreme heat and extreme gas prices have put a stop to our building at the time, but we can at least stay in our cabin now and don't need the tent. It rains over 50 inches a year there. We're trying that first. We are on top of an Aquifer and may try a well in the future.
@lovespurpleflowers Жыл бұрын
@@nlasater3800 50” a year is a whole lot of rain to catch, may the Lord provide a way for you to make it happen soon! I sure would enjoy a well but with the clay soil in my area, I can’t see it happening and one has to do stuff in secret these days? My best bet is when I am able to put on a new roof, I will do nice gutters at the same time. This is a home I inherited from my folks and they caught a lot of water in their gutters to water the garden with, the rain barrels filled up so fast! I honestly wanted a new roof but the wait time was 32 weeks and by then, the price of lumber was out of sight? The roof I have will be 30 years soon but it is still holding up. (I am in Ca and until we are able to get rid of the obscene people ruining our state, we are getting close to be political prisoners. truth be told, there is a huge population of conservatives that have had our elections stolen by illegals and criminals in charge (not for too much longer, though) I do wish your household the very best, I pray the the good folks of our country everyday and in my humble opinión, we are going to win!❤️🙏

I realized I had the construction background know how to do everything myself and my sons and I started in March and finished in September. We went all out and if I could figure out pics On here I’d send ya some. It’s so peaceful to enjoy. I love that you guys pray and give credit where credit is due. We located the cabin up on a hill with a great view, only drawback was the cost of materials. Oh well it’s built right and will hopefully be around for future generations to enjoy. Keep making the great content. Take care!

My wife and I took the plunge in late February this year. We have been staying in our 35 year old 26' RV for 4 months now. After we bought our property with cash, set up our outhouse and small solar array, made two failed attempts at finding groundwater, blisters on top of blisters, heatstroke, being covered in wood ticks and mosquito bites constantly, and now having to find work because we're running low on funds... We have decided that it's time to admit to ourselves that we're not very good at this BUT it still beats the hell out of the work-a-day grind we came from. Overall we feel happier, healthier, we sleep better and we have a future worth building towards. My takeaway from this experience: Nothing is as advertised, Nothing is as easy as it sounds, and Murphy's Law is a very real thing. But also, every challenge rewards you with either success or in a lot of cases, hard lessons on what not to do. It's a beautiful, brutal, and satisfying life.
