One way of avoiding the Inconveniences of a power fluctuation is to turn off the breaker and go on full battery power at least during the 6 to 9 pm busy hours., it not only prevents electrical fatigue on your equipment but will also save you some bills on the electricity. Try using a UPS for the TV & router so it does not turn off when the inverter switches. It helps a lot and protects your router and TV chips.

Hello Jay, just ask your provider if he can connect the main line to your inverter and have it in battery priority/UPS mode so that everytime the battery ran out of juice the inverter will take care of switching from battery to main line without noticing it. I did that with my setup only that the inverter is not Deye. So the ATS will only kick in once the inverter is off. What I did was main line split into 2, 1 goes to the inverter the other 1 goes to the ATS backup power, then the inverter line goes to the ATS main source.

Very informative. Have you considered heating water during peak solar to use later to shower? Basically a water battery. Another way to save battery power might be to run your well pump with a daytime timer and use that to fill the gravity tank if needed. Both houses could share the single existing gravity tank. Less total pumping as rainwater is used when available and any pumping that takes place would only be during peak sun. Regards, Alan

Awesome video. I've lived in Cebu for 12 years and the Electric bills are crazy expensive. Now i am selling Solar to US residents virtually and have a vision to setup an NGO providing off grid solar to Philippine remote area schools, clinics, churches . Interesting how much electric you were losing with the old grid connection. True much of the cost here loss in transmission. PS. Thanks for being real you guys My favorite Philippine Vlog. keep it up.

Informative video. Hope your airconditioning is the gold fin type thats suited well near the beach to avoid corrosion. Hope you get also affordable inverter ceiling fans that only cost around 8k that helped me reduced my bills

Awesome video! My suggestion is to be mindful of your KW consumption, especially at night when running on just battery power (at least until you can afford to expand your battery bank). Knowing the total KW consumption of all your appliances will be key in how you will "budget" the power capacity of your existing battery bank. Investing in a watt-hour meter will allow you to test each appliance to determine total consumption per hour and/or day. This will give you a better idea of what you can run just on battery power (and for how long) and still be somewhat comfortable (this might mean cutting down to just 1 AC instead of multiple for example). Being able to extend the battery bank supply to last throughout the night (or as long as possible) will lessen the dependency on grid power and lower the monthly bill further. During the day, you would also want to be sure that the solar panels can charge your battery bank to 100% capacity before using other power-hungry appliances so it will be ready for night usage (or add more panels so you will be able to use all appliances as usual during the day and still able to charge your battery bank to 100%). Even if your solar system is 100% off-grid capable you will still have to pay a minimum charge to the electric company being grid-tied (for keeping the meter and staying actively connected). The only way to have zero electric bill is to have a 100% strictly off-grid setup. Best wishes!

Totally understand your issues!! We hooked into the grid here also. We had an average of around 175Volts, and never even close to 200V. It took out a 2 hp air conditioner, and a 2 Hp well pump. Spent about 35,000 pesos and bought our own transformer. 235 to 240 volts all the time. I measured the distance from my house to the nearest transformer and it was around 900 meters. Line losses are bad here because the power grid folks use tiny wires for the lines to the houses. The switching back and forth from the grid on that switch will continue to burn it out. If you have the battery for it, Manually switch it over to battery at around 6pm and manually put it back on after 9pm. Resulting power use is nearly exactly the same, but YOU control how many times it switches that way. I have a diesel generator good for about 7500 watts and use it when island power is out. Something you should look into before the next Typhoon. Gasoline has a poor shelf life in this heat, but diesel is good for months if not years in a clean plastic barrel. Big cost on the generator is for the automation. If you can teach yourself how to start it, and get a decent mechanical guy, upkeep is not very expensive. Mine has lost a starter solenoid, and the battery charging circuit will only last a few weeks before the vibration shakes it to death... I took the charging circuit out and bought a simple trickle charger for around 300 pesos and it keeps the battery fully charged all the time. Regular car battery lasts about 3 years. Also, get a list of your normal maintenance parts and a schedule. Parts for most of it are cheap. I have spare starter, 3 solenoids for the starter, 3 solenoids for the auto fuel shut off, 4 sets of brushes for the generator. CLEARLY way too many parts. Have only used one set of brushes, and 1 starter solenoid, and one fuel solenoid. On Camotes Island, about 135 miles to your North West, near Cebu, to get parts we need to go to Cebu. With ferry schedules, any trip there for parts requires 2 days, lots of taxi fees, and a hotel stay, so I prefer to stock up here. Good luck there. For anything on generators or local things, just reply here. We've been here about 7 years now. Its a great place, but it is NOT the equivalent of either America or UK.... but I am sure you know that by now!!

Putting you inverter inside a cabinet is a good idea. Just make sure you have some type of air blowing inside to keep it from getting too hot. Like a wall mounted fan (s) or very small ac unit. Its the same principle from a server room. If you go into just about any server room, its cooled to about 19-21c When I would go inside the server room, I would see some wearing a light jacket 🤣

Nice setup, just put a cheap UPS on the TV and internet modem , it will help when the power switch over and you wont have to worry about the TV going out.

Buy yourself a wide sponge mop with a long handle and clean the panels while standing up. And you would be surprised how little stuff on a panel will degrade the output of the panel.

Nice video. Wecome to the Philippines, where you have first hand experience while other think they know better. Batteries do not last forever, so save up for their replacement. Good solar inverters have no fans and can transfer power from the grid to solar without you noticing it. No need for extra UPS. You ATS is not suited for the power quality in your island, it will not last that long. Using solar for the past 33 years was always an experience for me and there are still new things to learn while others try to re-invent the wheel. Zeroing your electric bill with solar is a bragging right, and a financial blunder that only serves the solar vendor😢. I got interested in your vlog because of Starlink. Gòod move. You live in an island, I guess you have a windy condition there...why not resort to "air exchange" setup inside your home instead running a ACU. You only need an open window and at the other side of the house is an exhaust fan...That exhaust fan is taking out hot air inside your house while drawing in fresh air from outside...It requires less less power as compared to ACU. Just a thought only, well at my home here in Calamba, Laguna, Luzon...I'm using air exchange setup for my bedroom.😄

For a better quality of life in cleaning it, we use 2 types of mops. A 3M scotch brite fibercloth mop. It comes with a spinner and a pail. About 1000+ pesos only. Second is 3M scotch brite easy squeeze mop about 500 pesos when drying the panels. Your back will thank you immensely. If you decided to buy. Dont forget to buy replacements for the mop heads.

13:49 You should consider using a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) if that's the case 👍 That way, whenever your solar setup switch between power sources, the TV and Internet will work as usual 🥰👍 Basically battery within a battery backup😆🤣🤟❤

It’s actually a bad practice to always use the ATS. The use of external ATS for Solar Power System is for maintenance only. However, there are ATS that can switch in less than 50ms for uninterruptible changeover. Are your loads connected to the load (ups/eps) port or the grid port? Because if your loads are connected to the load port of the inverter, the inverter will handle the switch itself when the grid voltage goes below the set minimum voltage. No need for the external ATS. It’s also faster-almost no interruption (less than 10ms from what I read). Just make sure the loads don’t exceed the max power output of the inverter and the battery. I also saw a video from a solar installer that put the connection from the grid to the Gen port because the voltage in their area was always fluctuating. Basically the power from the grid is used for charging the batteries when batteries are low. The reason for this is because the voltage of load port is synching with the grid port so if the grid fluctuates, the voltage on the load port also fluctuates unless you’re off grid. I also saw an announcement from someone that’s connected to Deye that they may be adding a Grid Sync On/Off feature where the voltage of the load port of the inverter will not be in sync with the grid. This is useful in areas with fluctuating voltage from the grid. Hopefully it supports present models (via firmware update) and not just the future models.

Hi Jay, good idea about putting the battery in some sort of cupboard in your next place, not only for noise but safety of not having the battery in the living quarters. dont clean your panels when its hot... when things are hot they expand and if rapidly cooled will contract... that can cause microcracks...

You live by the sea shore. You're missing out on the benefits or wind generated energy. Have you also considered adding a wind electric turbine system? You can continue getting electricity even during the evening or when there isn't much sun. You might even be able to sell your surplus energy back into the grid(though i'm not sure if the local electric cooperative allows that); or you might have to buy extra batteries to store all that energy you harvest. There are local companies that sell various wind turbines for domestic use, and they can even integrate it with your solar energy system. You will definitely be living completely off the grid with this kind of hybrid system. Hope you seriously look into it and explore the possibilities.

just leave the inverter where it is. it'll last longer being installed in the open where it benefits from the cooler air. the inverter is gonna be running hot all time if placed inside a cupboard which drastically shorten its lifespan.

Buy a UPS for your computer. Note the wattage (power rating); the power rating of the UPS must be greater by at least 25%. For instance, your computer is 100W, the UPS rating must be at least 125W (100W X 1.25). To avoid flickering or sudden turning off of your TV when the switch is transferring often, buy also a UPS for your TV. The wattage of the UPS must also be higher by at least 25%. OR you may add the total power rating of the computer and TV then multiply by 1.25; the UPS for these 2 appliances must have a power rating equal or greater than the product you obtained.

the inverter and the battery should be put outside in a secured shed. it shouldn't be put inside your home specially that you are using air conditioner. the inverter produces a lot of heat and that heat goes inside your house which means your air conditioner will waste more energy unnecessarily removing that heat exhausted by the inverter. it will become an unending cycle because there's something inside the room that produces a lot of heat and your air conditioner will always be running at full power. inverter-type air conditioners supposed to power down when a certain cold temperature is achieved and just keep it at that temperature which saves energy. but in your case, your air conditioner will never achieve that because there's a literal room heater inside the room which fights the air conditioner from maintaining a low temperature. an air conditioner works by absorbing heat and transferring it into outside through a heat exchanger, which means the room will be left with less heat and less heat means cold. others would've thought that it's blowing cold air but in fact it's blowing air that's less hotter. it's still the same air that's in the room but with most of the heat removed. another reason why it's bad to store them inside an air-conditioned room is the battery. LiFePo-based batteries hate cold temperatures. they don't operate well on cold temperatures. that's why most of these batteries have temperature sensors in them to detect low temperatures and disable the system if it detected that the temperature is too low to operate.
