In this video, Jono teaches you how to do a Waltz Jump off-ice. This is a very important figure skating jump to learn. This is the same take off as for the axel jump. If you can't do a good strong waltz jump (or 3 Jump as it is known in the UK) then you will really struggle to nail an Axel Jump when you start working on it.
Going through this jump as a part of your off-ice training routine is key if you aim to be a good singles skater.
It's surprising what amazing improvements can be made thanks to practising key off ice exercises that aim to improve specific aspects of your figure skating!

@@helenletts8049 great job on the toe loop! I have the rest of the single jumps I'm editing off ice at the moment. Some of them could be helpful to you! What have you been focusing on in the past year?

@@IceCoachOnline Past year? Oo god. Well, i was finally taking my sport seriously. Got a proper coach i think early October I dont really remember. Im not allowed to compete at all, since my parents dont want extra stress until I'm out of school, so that's that.I really want to though. My coach though has been preparing me for comp though. She is making me go through all the figures, starting me in freeskate, which I'm the worst at cause I'm a chicken, and forcing me to do dance. I hate dance. Before my coach, i was just doing public classes and calling it a day, but there is so many public classes you can do, especially since i was past the top level my rink provides XD

That's me now ahahah. As an adult lerner who had wished to ice skate for all life, I have just learned waltz jump (nowhere near this perfectly) and every time I go on ice, or even off ice, I love flexing it even though there's many people much more advanced than me ahahahh (Sorry for my broken English :) )

Hey, i've got a question, it's not related to the vid and i know i might sound very cocky or arrogant but remember please that my fitness is closest to you olympic guys than beginner. And i don't have anyone to ask - i know lifts are dangerous So about those eagle lifts, you just need to have a very deep and strong outside edge, hold the eagle and be the support to let your partner climb over your quadriceps, to wrap around your hips or use your boots as support? I need to find some boulder climber or cheerleader around 🤔
@IceCoachOnline

So for the spread eagle lift, you first need to be able to do a good solid outside spread eagle. If you can't do this, not worth trying a lift in it (perhaps that's obvious 😅). Secondly to have someone just stand on you with no skates isn't a big deal strength wise (of you're in good shape). But if you have someone stand on you with just their blades on, it will hurt. A lot. But like anything, after a while (maybe 3 or 4 months of lots of cuts and bruises) it starts hurting less. I have done an outside spread eagle lift with my partner stood on me for about 10 years now, it doesn't hurt at all anymore. Sometimes other people at shows think "that's easy" but then they can't get past the pain aspect early on. The strength aspect comes into play for both the base and flyer (circus terminology I believe) when you have to whip the outside edge around nice and deep. Suddenly a lot of core strength is required for both people and your timing becomes very important. If one of you goes without the other, chances are you will fall! So because of this it ends up becoming a hard lift to do on the ice.

@@IceCoachOnline Ohh i was wondering about the pain, especially since you told me that blades are thinner. Yeah dk if i would manage it, it seem like a thai boxer training 😂😂😂 Same about the base and flyer, i did judo so i know i'm not strong enough yet, my edges either tho; there some things would seem easier to me, like the double cantilever as the partner act as counter weight. The falls should be fun too if it's not terrible ones The head coach me trolled me at some point about the fact to send me in dance. Now i figure that i've got the look, the body and the need of perfection for it - her husband was former champion. I really might give it a serious try, i wouldn't have thought about it without you, thanks you for it and for all those informations =) As finding the right alchemy in a relationship is already hard, i can't imagine on the ice 😂😂😂 Aslo finding someone with a strong upper part will be an issue. Arfff 😂😂😂
